has anyone ever used this accommodation offered at the park? I know someone that is going this summer and their granddaughter is deaf. would like her to see some attractions that are interpretered. thanks!

I never had, but I believe they have translaters on property. Also, I have seen in some of the theaters (American Adventure, Hall of Presidents) translaters. I would call guest services and find out how to request this in advance. They may assign you a CM translater for your trip. Hope this helps!

Hi,
According to the Guide Book for Guests With Disabilities-the following is what is offered for guests requesting ASL

If requested the WDW Resort provides Sign Language interpretation for Guests at live Theme Park shows with a minimum of seven days notice.

The following shows are currently being interpreted on a rotating basis as follows

MGM-Sundays, Wednesdays
MK-Mondays, Thursdays
Epcot-Tuesdays, Fridays
AK-Saturdays

The number they provide for more informaion is

1-407-827-5141 TTy

They also offer Reflective Captioning and Video Captioning.


You can also request a Guidebook for Guest With Disabilities be sent to you, there is one for each park.

Also if the party is staying on site and needs special room accomodations may include such items as TTY's, stobe light smoke detectors, closed caption tv's, knock and phone alerts

I can't do a search right now (just popped on quick), but if you do a search, you will find people who have posted about the sign language services. You might be able to find it by scrolling down the pages. There was quite a nice thread about it. People were generally pleased with the signing service and felt the signers were excellent and very expressive.

This is a thread from a little bit ago & I can personally say that we had great interpreters for our visit last Sept. DH is hearing impaired/profoundly deaf & although he speaks clearly & mostly li-reads, he needed intrepreters & reflective/closed captioning. Just remember if you are requesting an interpreter to let them know she uses ASL, not signed English. HTH!

Contact Disney 2 weeks out and they will provide you a schedule of the times for each show that is interpreted. And a good point. Be sure they know that you want ASL not SEE if that is what is needed. Also for any backstage tours they are interested in taking an interpreter will be provided.
I am HOH and that can be more of a problem because I don't really need a terp but it is still helpful in a noisy enviroment.
