Anybody heard of, or tried to book a suite using your points and they say there is no availability. But by booking on-line, you can see that there is availibility if you pay cash? Just had friends try to book for Thanksgiving at OKW, their home resort and there is nothing.

Just wondering if this is a normal thing?

Yep...happens all the time.

The points availability and cash availability are two completely separate inventories. Most of the cash inventory comes from DVC owners using our points to "trade out" of DVC to other "collections."

You will often find cash availability when there are no points ressies to be had.

FWIW this is not unique to DVC Marriott (my Brother) & Starwood (Me) owners experence the same thing inside their resort networks

For some people it helps to think of these rooms as being "occupied" by DVC member who just happen to be using that room on a Disney Cruise.

Your friends probably needed to book Thanksgiving time about 7 months ago.

ITA!

My first thought was, "They're trying to book Thanksgiving now?"

Was not looking to be the target of ridicule, just wondered about the Cash vs. Points thing, which was my question and not theirs.

They are members since year One, so they know to book early about holidays.

Thanks anyway.

Didn't mean to sound that way... just a knee jerk reaction. :flower3:

We have all had to learn "the ways of the force" at one time or another & the DIS is a great info source.
