As you can tell, I'm a big wildlife and animal fan, so the opportunity to photograph such a beautiful myriad of animals in natural-looking surroundings and observe them for as long as you like is one of my favorite things about AK. That, and relaxing with a drink on the river wall at Dawa bar, or a very slow scenic lunch at the gorgeous and sprawling Flame Tree BBQ in one of the lakeside pavilions, with that scenic Everest view.

Thank you...honored at the compliment, but not a professional - just a hobbyist!

A majority of the shots are from my Sony H5, an 'ultrazoom' camera which has a 432mm telephoto, and I also used a 1.7x extender for alot of the far away shots, which gives me a 720mm. Four shots were taken with my newer DSLR, a Sony A300, mostly with an 18-250 lens that gives me 375mm total zoom. I also have a massive 200-500 lens (total 750mm telephoto), but that's usually a bit much for lugging around Disney! I use it for wildlife and birding shots down here at home.

I have a Canon & a Pentax, and had Minolta & Nikon in the past - I'm not a brand snob...I go with what feels good and works good for me at the time. I don't think any of the top 8 brands make a bad camera nowadays, so I ignore the 'get a Canon', 'get a Sony', or 'get a Nikon', etc. Try them all, see which you like, learn to use it as well as you can, and the brand won't matter as much! I've had good results, like the features, ergonomics, and the image quality, and good reliability from Sony, which led me to stick with them the last few cameras.

I'm up there in December myself - Maybe I can tag along and snap a few shots for ya! ;)

Oh, I know what I want for Christmas! :rotfl2: That said, I believe a great shot is created 5% equipment, 20% luck and 75% talent. Fantastic shots!

Thanks so much! I'm terrified of it, and all of a sudden into photography, so while my friends rode I spent time wandering around looking and photographing everything! It's through some sort of metal tube thing, and I used my zoom to get in close. I'm happy someone enjoyed my photos! I have plenty more, but I doubt anyone wants to see me falling at various points in the park while wearing leopard ears!! :rotfl:

Have you checked out the Photography section (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=97) of the DIS? There's also the Picture of the Day thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1900670). All the wonderful pictures on this thread and all the other POTD's have inspired me to take LOTS of pictures the next time we go to WDW.

I did right before my last trip, and that's how I got much better pictures than my last trip. I'll check back in closer to this trip because I know I won't remember what I learn! Last trip I took over 2,000 pictures in 6 days haha! My friends were in shock. This year I'm taking my laptop because it was way too hard to try and edit them every time. I filled up two digital cameras!!

A bit of trivia...that "tree" that looks out of place is actually a cell tower :-)

Hey eeyoresnr! You totally have to see it your next trip, I promise you will love it! They generally do 5-8 shows a day. Get there about 30 minutes ahead of time (more like 45 if you are going at a very crowded time).

I used to work at FOLK and while many folks on the board will tell you there is no need to show up more than 10 minutes early but I would definitely suggest the 30 minutes to get primo seating for the show!

Okay guys and gals, I've been to the Animal Kingdom oodles of times since it first opened and I've taken pictures of the Tree of Life from all different trails around the base of the tree. Lots of us have even posted pictures of the Tree here on this thread.

I was just reading the 2009 Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and it says there is a 6 foot tall rabbit on the tree. Where? I don't remember seeing a rabbit.

Do any of you have a picture of it?

I'm realizing I haven't passed through the dino-area of AK in a really long time...the past 9 or 10 trips at least - probably around 2 years. I always turn left to go towards Everest, or head into Asia or Africa. The pics remind me I should go in there again in January!

I'm with you, MeMom. I was up there just after you posted this, while you were at work, and was gazing at that very same tree. Then, the next week, I was at work too.

These aren't part of the official AK animal roster...but passing the river from Discovery Island to the exit is always worth a look at all of the local Florida ibis that roost in the trees for the night. Some thousands gather there, and can be some neat photo opportunities to catch them backlit and golden-glowed in the sun, or some good flying action shots:
