When I booked yesterday for the week after Thanksgiving, I asked the CM if some kind of discount came out, could I apply it to my booking, and I can, so that's good.

My question is...for those who typically travel end of Nov/beginning of Dec or have traveled during this time...Is there usually some kind of discount or special that comes out?:wizard:

I am watching for a code too and in the past they have come out in Aug.

Just curious, what have some of the offers been?

I hate to get my hopes up, but it would go so much more in my favor with my dh if something happened. ;)

The CM did tell me that any offers for later in the year could possibly be released mid August. :wizard:

Last year at POFQ we seemed to save a little off of the room but they really like to do free park hopper and water park option.

I'm paying attention to this thread also, as our stay is for the end of Nov./first of Dec. and we're AKL concierge, so it would be nice to get a little discount (or a big one...:lmao: ).

We have always gotten an annual pass rate going in the winter/value season. Only one person needs the pass. You don't need it to book, just at check-in. Also, we get a Disney Dining Experience card (I think about $50-60 dollars with the AP discount) which gives you 20% off food. With four kids we have always been able to save with the AP. I don't know about other discounts. Sorry.

You might try the list of historical discounts, on Mousesavers
http://www.mousesavers.com/historicalwdwdiscounts.html

I too am keeping my eyes peeled for any Dec discounts, for a family member who decided to join us, and has only been able to book a rack rate package.

My parents went this same week after Thanksgiving last year and got a discount through her Disney Visa in August. Of course, it wasn't for the resort they originally booked so they ended up at Beach Club concierge. somehow I'm thinking they didn't technically save money from their originally booking but it was quite an upgrade.

We are hoping for a discount this year good enough to upgrade to a deluxe but we are 3 rooms so it will have to be an incredible deal.

We stayed at AKL in November last year. We originally booked (in April)for 4 nights w/4 day MYW base tickets for around $2000 (2 adults, 1 child). When the code came out in August I had to add another day to the trip (and the MYW pass) and it ended up costing us $1,600. Luckily we were able to change our air on Southwest with no penalty. I'm guessing we saved around $600.

I think the trick is to be flexible with your travel dates, or plan on calling CRO every day to see if they have the exact dates at the exact resort you are interested in.

Just booked 6 nights at BWI in December (went during Jersey Week & Super Soap Weekend last year, won't make that mistake again!) We're prepared to add/drop another day depending on the codes/availability at BWI.

Enjoy the magic!

There is almost always an AP discount. I go every year the first or second week of December. You may want to look into buying a pass just for the room discount, especially if staying at a deluxe. Otherwise, you cannot count of there being a discount. The discounts come out as close as 8 weeks to the start period, so go ahead and book a room. If you wait for the discount to book a room, there may not be a room.

I almost screwed this up Big Time going during the value season in April. I waited until AP rates came out to book a room, and when I called there were TWO choices: CR and GF. Gulp. Not exactly my budget. I kept calling and calling and eventually got a moderate. A room at the values never did open up.

If you are wanting a deluxe resort, sometimes the discount does not apply to all the deluxe resorts, so be flexible.

To the poster that asked about discounts during the close-to-Christmas-season. They almost NEVER exist as that is peak time at WDW.

That's exactly as I suspected 'til I looked at the historical data tables. There are some years in which discounts (not sure what they were, exactly) which covered check ins from October to Dec 22 or 23. So, if you were able to check in on the last day, you'd get that rate (and that package) for your whole stay -- which, on a 4 day stay, would include Christmas Eve, Christmas Day; on a 10 day stay, that would include those holidays plus New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

I'd be surprised if these were major deals (a la free dining or 40% off room rates, etc), but there was something.

Hasn't Disney just changed the policy that the day you check in the rate does NOT apply to the entire trip? I thought I read something about it on RADP.

An AP is around $460

I think the new policy starts in 2008. It is still the same this year, you pay the same rate for the entire trip.

Mommy Siobhan, I think the passes are about $540 and you can order them on the disney website, but don't forget you don't have to have one to book the room. You can order it after you secure an AP rate. They will send you a voucher for the pass, which you can activate when you get to the park. We have never had a problem presenting the voucher at check in. Once they asked if we would come back to the desk to verify activation the next day. No big deal.

Annual passes are $462.21. Fl residents and DVC members get a discount. If you add the water park & PI option, they are $595.34

Mousesavers.com seems to be the 'gold standard' for finding Disney deals. You'll find the current codes and rate info for Walt Disney World hotels at
http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html

I haven't seen any discount codes for November yet, but if you have your dates figured out, common widsom around the disboards is to book a room or package now -- and then call back if/when some deal comes up, to have the Cast Member apply the code to your reservation.

The historical discount info tables indicate some sort of discounts in November/December, as noted above in this thread.

Good luck!

Thank you for all of the tips!:thumbsup2

One more question regarding the AP.
If you purchased the AP and then there came out a discount for AP holders, it would be worth it still even after spending the cash for an AP?

Well, you can book AP rates and simply show your AP (or voucher) at check-in. I don't believe you need your voucher to book an AP rate...
One of the reasons for doing it that way, would be to ensure that the AP would save you money. The only way to do *that* is to crunch the numbers.
For example,
if an AP saves you $100 per night on the room, for 5 nights, then you've saved $500 minus the cost of the AP ($439? for an adult). If we assume you were already planning on buying a 6 day, Magic Your Way park hopper pass ($222), then you've only spent $325 more. That's a true savings of ~$175 on this trip, plus the savings on admission (and possibly resorts) on any other trips you might take within the year.
Keep in mind, though, AP rates are often room-only, meaning you can't add a dining package. (Atleast, they were the last time I crunched the number onf this, a while back. Not sure if it's changed.) That's something to think about if you were planning on using the Dining plan...the savings on the room might be outweighed by spending more on food, and/or losing the convenience of the dining plan.
If dining can be added to an AP reservation, you still need to get base tickets for everyone in your party. However, there's no rule that you *must* activate everyone's ticket (unless things have changed really recently); you could book everyone for the lowest base ticket for your reservation, and keep the AP holder's ticket for another visit. The tickets hold their value until they are activated (and then they are only good for 14 days, unless you buy the "no expiry) option.

I hope that helps. You should find more info about AP rates by searching for the topic in the search function -- there should be a FAQ about it, I'd think.

We booked with a travel agent, our trip is almost paid for. We'll be ay POR the week after Thanksgiving starting on Sat. the 24th. My question is, can I get and use the code for November? It would really be great if I could get some money off the remaining balance. Would I have to call the travel agent and get her to do it or can I do it myself? I'm new to this code stuff. Thanks.

There isn't necessarily a "November code". If Disney decides to release a a discount for those dates, and you're eligible, then Reservations can try to apply the code to your reservation.
Generally (in travel), but not always, travel agents "own" the reservation and have to make the inquiries and changes. But, your agent might not know about the code. So, you can keep your eye open, see what comes up if anything, and then ask the travel agent to call Disney (or confirm that you can call Disney yourself).

Thanks so much for the info. I'll call my travel agent and see what we can do. I just hope she's as helpful as y'all have been. We're going to be at POR for 7 days so every little bit of a discount will help. I'd rather spend my money on something else. We don't actually spend that much time in the room, but I love POR, so I didn't want a value resort. Thanks again for the info!
