I wish I could do that!! I have a CIBC account and they don't seem to allow you to buy it online! My sister works at RBC and I asked her to pick me up some but she does not have the money right now so I guess I have to go to the bank for 4 kids.. yuck.. oh well it is a GREAT rate!

I need to pay the outstanding balance on my DVC purchase. This is so good news. Now I wonder if I should wait another few days... but I know if I do that, I'd probably get burned...

I know so many times I have said to myself.. oh I will wait till it gets stronger, and then it goes down..it seems to rebound though.. it is better to get a little bit when it goes up each time.. I love having a USD account so I can sock it away bit by bit and then it is easy and I have lots of spending money when I get down there!

We have one too. Unfortunately, that money was worth so much more when the dollar was 60 cents. Worse return than stuffing money under the mattress!!!

My husband and I were discussing this this evening. According to *officials* it should be stronger by October. They think it will be closer to par.

Went to the bank yesterday --long story short Scotia Bank is
slow
severley understaffed
staff experience with US accounts limited

Just a plain crazy experience --I mean I'm not even remotely educated around banking issues and I knew more than them.

Anyhow I opened an account with "her " promise that I'd be able to do transactions online and via the banking machine ,,(I work full and partime job so little time to bank in person)
soooooooooooo as I depart the bank and try to use the banking machine the "receptionist says you can't use the machine to put money into the USD account!! What-----------so now the account is all set up but they don't have the computer program to allow online -abm usd banking yet. I offered to send over my computer savy son ,,lol.
So now I have to go into the bank and line up to deposit,,,,is the year 2007 people????
sorry to go so off topic but I just had to vent .
Thanks
Mel
Oh I got good value for my $--USD that is .:thumbsup2

Yes you can open a USD account but after my experience I'd try Royal or Canada Trust or Bank of Montreal.

It's so funny that you mentioned that Mel! I am with CIBC and I am equally frustrated with the inability to complete any US dollar transactions either at the ABM or using online banking. We also have a US dollar VISA with CIBC...at one point, we were able to view our balances and transactions online but when he came back from Disney World earlier this year, the account had magically disappeared from our online banking accounts. They actually told us that the account had been listed in error and that we are not able to view the balance or transactions online. Say what??????? I just don't get it but I'm not a banking person either. Does anyone know if one of the Canadian banks allows you to complete online transactions with a US dollar account or US VISA?

At bank of montreal I can see my USD acct balance online and my recent transactions. I can also send a request to tsf $$ from my CDN $ acct to my USD $ acct or vice versa. This transaction is not immediate, but I think they say within 2 hrs which is fine by me. You cannot withdraw USD cash from your USD acct at BMO ABM machines. I don't beleive you can deposit either. But for me, I just take a few hundred out of the USD acct before we head down and that is fine.

I agree that CIBC USD bank accounts are not good.. it is a pain to have to go in to deposit and withdraw. I like being able to do it online. I bank with PC and they don't have a US account which is too bad

Hey, me too!!!! I have to pay on the 12th. As for my cash, I will continue to watch the rate for a while. My DD8 has been saving her money for a while and we exchanged it on Saturday. For her small amount the rate doesn't matter much. She only had $61 (all in $5 and quarters...the guy at the bank was really nice to her and praised her for saving).

BTW, where are you staying?

We are at POFQ from Aug 25 - Sept 3.

In the beginnig I wanted POP but when I booked it wasn't available. I thought I might try for it later so I called several times and nothing opened up. So now I have decided that seeing as how we are probably driving down, I get a hotel upgrade as my reward for wasting 4 of my vacation days in the car.

If a cheap flights appears...I still get rewarded:rotfl2:

The CIBC ATM machines by my house have USD capabilities to them....I can do all transactions there (including transfers, withdrawals, and deposits)....maybe this isn't everywhere, but I think it's great! I can also see my USD account transactions online with them...I wonder if this is something they are just rolling out????:confused3

Just paid my balance! It was due by July 18th, and at that rate, it felt very good!

The closest one to me is in Hagersville, which is about 45 minutes away so not really an option.
Can you deposit Canadian money and they convert it to USD or not?
