View Full Version : 15 changes I would make to the WDW resort

Simple changes...because we could all come up with radical ones. These are in no specific order:
1. Replace Stitch's Great Escape with um, anything at this point
2. Update Space Mountain with as much as possible from DL's version
3. Seek out more innovative companes for the Innoventions pavilion, it just isnt very good right now
4. Add a new country and ride to the World Showcase (for once in 20 years)
5. Replace Dino-Rama at AK with some real Dinosaur exhibits and add the old rumred excavation coaster (could make it similar to the Indy coaster at DLP or TDS)
6. Add a flume ride to AK, Kali river rapids isn't enough. There's a lot of themes possible for it
7. Put in a new Indiana Jones ride at MGM based on the era of Indy 4
8. Move the "One Man's Dream" exhibit from the back corner of MGM and put it where it belongs, on Main St. USA
9. Beg, Bargain, Plea do whatever to get George Lucas to make a much bigger Star Wars presence at MGM, the possibilities are endless
10. Update the Soarin' film, or make one for each theater, so each experience is different. Also, make the new film DIGITAL, would improve the look of it as the existing film is already showing some age.
11. Promise to never EVER put a show like High School Musical in the middle of TOMORROWLAND again!!!
12. Make the Indy Speedway cars electric and give them engine sounds in the car's audio system instead of real lawn mower engine sounds
13. Put an eatery in the old Fantasyland Skyway station, its a beautiful but nearly useless stroller parking area now, but it could be used for much more.
14. Put a new attraction in the Wonders of Life pavilion instead of making it a convention hall
15. Give Restaurant Akershus (at Norway) at least one meal without being all Princesses

1) Some of us really like Stitch's great escape!
2) Agreed 100%
3) I would wait until Siemens finishes their updates along with Spaceship Earth before commenting.
4) Agreed
5) Some people like Dino-Rama... but another E ticket ride in Dinoland or AK in general would be AWESOME.
6) Agreed... Kali was a big letdown to me... kind of boring. A Flume would be awesome in Camp Mickey and Minnie
7) Agreed
8) Agreed
9) Agreed... Missed the boat on this but better late than never... a complete remake of Star Tours... make it more spiderman esque or have 3 different stories, etc.
10) Can take it or leave it... Love it as is now.
11) Agreed... WHY was this not at the Studios?
12) Agreed
13) Or bring the Skyway back (Cheap jerks)... but yeah some kind of repurposing.
14) Agreed
15) Agreed
And to add one more, bring the Nemo subs or something similiar to Animal Kingdom... Maybe some kind of glass bottom boat ride or the subs in the river around the tree of life, would be awesome.

All good suggestions. For #6 maybe they could find some use for that "River to Nowhere" at the AK. When AK first opened they had a very VERY short boat ride there. Now just a boat full of characters sails around from time to time.
Kali could have been a much better attraction--just making it half again as long with another "major" get wet drop would have been nice. They COULD have easily done that--but chose not to.
And #8--at one time I think they did have a Walt Disney movie at the beginning of Main Street. In the arcade or theater next to Tony's(??)
One Man's Dream certainly belongs at the MK, for sure.

I assume by river to nowhere, you mean the one surrounding the Tree of Life in Discovery Island? They did have a couple of incarnations... straight ride, critter cruises, etc.

Rather than respond to your suggestions (which are all good) I'll make one i would like to see but probably never would due to $$$$.
I would love to have a section in Magic Kingdom that would be a magic Kingdom museum, that would have props, displays, vehicles, etc from retired MK rides that have been replaced or taken down. I would love to see some of the artifacts from 20000 leagues, Mr. Toad, maybe one of the skyway cable cars, etc. Think of when you get off of the Backlot tour you enter the prop room with stuff from movies past (some that come to mind are whoopis Sister Act 2 dress that was in there, Madonna dress from Evita, etc). But, instead of movies make it a big building in MK with a lot more exhibits and only about "retired" disney attractions (captain EO, Food rocks, Alien encounter, etc). It could give a description of each ride, how long it was there, etc. You could name it the yesterland museum or something like that.
Again, I think a lot of disney's decisions come from the want to keep things fresh and modern with Disney's new movies, etc. But, I would love to see a real life MK museum that would appeal to people who are no longer in their teens but still continue to come back to MK year after year.

As for Stitch it seems to me that since it is up and running and still attracks guest, why bother with changing it when other things seem much more important?
Re: Dinorama, I think the best solution (again, since it's already there) is to enclose the ride (at least one of the tracks) to make it a scarier dark coaster...A bit like RnR.
A Flume ride needs to go Epcot. There is nothing there to cool you down (the Brother Bear Canada rumor was the one I liked). A new Country (or TWO) is absolutely necessary.
Star Wars and Soarin' I agree with.
Re: High School Musical, maybe Tomorrowland isn't the right place but they absolutely have to feed this phenomena.
Agree with the rest.
I'd add that I think AK needs to refocus on actual animals. I'd love to an Australia addition with some type of hook like KS.
Also, MGM needs another brilliant stage show to finally replace the awesome Hunchback show that was removed for no sound reason.

Maybe do a Disney museum at the new shopping complex near DAK that will go up in the next few years OR do one at DTD or a standalone building.

Honestly, it doesnt but if the mods feel the need to move it somewhere feel free.
As for my reasoning, it's because there aren't many places to put this type of thread...the Theme Parks board is more for vacation planning and questions. Here is where we have the critical thinkers about Disney.
Maybe we should make a new forum for discussing the good/bad aspects of Disney in recent history/present?

I think dis should start a new board where all of us can post our ideas for disney. Then disney could pay them a small % and we could have a huge dis meet! Seriously I think there are a few things I would like to see at disney and would like to have a place to put these ideas without feeling like I am posting on the wrong board. That's the stroy of my life always posting on the wrong board.:rotfl:

Was Martin Short in that? I only saw that one once too!
Anyway, I like your ideas. I never thought about the fact Epcot does not have a traditional "cool-off" ride. Good point. Also, while there has not been a new attraction added to WS in 20 years, we do have some movie updates and such, which is nice. I do agree, though, that a new dark ride or something would be nice.
I agree many things need to be changed, but I must agree with one post that said to put attractions/shows in empty buildings and such before fixing errors like Stitch. This is particularly true of MGM, where there are literally vacant theaters (what a waste) which are huge, and see a lot of traffic. I think MGM has huge gaps which reek of poor show.
Thankfully, from what I've been reading on other sites, it seems MGM will see a lot of love the next few years, starting with Midway Mania and the Star Tours refurb.
I like this discussion, and agree that it would be out of place on the Theme Parks board, which usually has threads like A) "Convince me to Wear Crocs" or B) "Tell me if I can do three parks and get back in time for my ADR?"
Other Disney boards have critical discussion areas, and I think it would be a nice idea for the "heavy-hitters" to have an area to discuss other issues with The Walt Disney Company.
Great thread and ideas, Chris!:thumbsup2

One thing I would do is incorporate the Power Rangers into more then just a meet n greet at MGM. I thought they could revise the stunt show and make it a Power Rangers Show w/ all the stunt special effects! My son loves the PRs and so do tons of other kids! That could be a big draw for MGM.
Another cool item to add to MGM would be The Transformers. I think this movie and its sequals are going to be big for Hasbro. I know Disney has nothing to do w/ Transformers. But Disney had nothing to do w/ the Star Wars series either????? Disney signing a deal w/ Hasbro and adding Transformers to MGM could provide more competition for Harry Potter at IOA.

Reminded me of something Disney was looking at that I would have LOVED to see. When I was in college, some folks from Disney were at my university (West Virginia University) studying our PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) - they were considering it for WDW to replace bus service. It would have been like little mini-monorails (think enclosed TTA) getting you all around the property!

1- I've heard the complaints but never ridden it myself so I can't agree yet.
2- There's a lot of talk that this will happen sometime next year!
3- I agree but we'll see how SE turns out too.
4- The possibilities for this are so vast. We've been waiting far too long for this.
5- It would be nice too see more innovative ideas like this for this part of AK, it sure needs it.
6- AK needs a flume ride just as much as Epcot & MGM will benefit from one. I like the Brother Bear idea in the Canada Pavillion.
7- I think they'll wait to see how well it does, however, an Indy "ride" is most welcome.
8- This has always belonged at MK.
9- I agree endlessly but this would make too much sence, so naturally, they won't do it.
10- WOW already? Haven't seen it yet & I wasn't aware of this either.
11- Yep!
12- If it helps our planet then I'm all for it.
13- Sure, the space is there, why not use it right?
14- When I found this out I punched a hole in my wall! Why the HECK would they not keep this pavillion!?! If it's old, update it, if it's not popular, then put in a new ride, but don't use it as office space!!!!!!!! Thinking about it makes me want to hit the bags again, where's my Rocky music???
15- Make it a few meals.
All in all, these are all great ideas. We could all come up with great ideas. The problem is, will great ideas ever see the light of day at WDW again? Only time will tell I guess, I for one, am tired of waiting.

Here are my ideas to improve WDW.....
1) Build a Horizons II ride at Epcot. Removing World of Motion and Horizons was a big mistake. We need some more kewl dark rides.
2) Add more "miniature" scenes (like the city of the future display) to the People Mover ride. There is so much unused space. Add a detailed display that will wow the people riding the People Mover ride.
3) Build the "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" ride at WDW. That is a true Disney magic ride. It combines a great dark ride with a rollercoaster thrill ride.
4) Remove Test Track and Mission Space. Just not the right Disney ride for the entire family. Remember Walt built Disneyland for the entire family to ride together.
5) Go back to the original Imagination ride with Dreamfinder at Epcot. Disney should have kept that one alone.
I'm sure I'll have more but this is a start.

2.) Get rid of all Mcdonalds on Property
3.) Add a Pirates themed Hotel
4.) Add Ireland to World Showcase
5.) Give Disney World it's own Airport so you "arrive right in the heart of the magic"
6.) Add alot to the Animal Kingdom because it's boring
7.) Add a lil more to MGM to spice it up
8.) Have a Nightmare before Christmas themed ride
9.) Move Carrousel of Progress to Epcot
10.) Add a little Mermaid themed ride
11.) Expand the monorail
12.) Add another waterpark
13.) Get rid of Disney quest
14.)bring back Horizons because it rocked

That's the same argument basically used against expanding light and heavy rapid transit rail systems in cities around the U.S.
The fact is that buses ARE more flexible. You can easily increase the number of buses on busier routes. When one breaks down the whole line doesn't have issues. Yada yada yada.
Don't get me wrong - I'm a railfan and love the monorail for its uniqueness, and wish peoplemovers actually got beyond the theme park stage. But unless it becomes far too expensive to run buses, it isn't likely that there will be any further expansions on one or two rails. Especially with WDW becoming more decentralized anyways.

This was a fun experience for us only because at least half of why we enjoy disney is watching all the odd people. They must have told us no less than 20 times that it would be dark and weird and STILL people freaked out when they turned the lights off. What kind of lunatics subject themselves to things like this if they know they're not going to be able to handle it.

I find these two comments incongruent.
Unless one lacks imagination and a creative festive soul, Animal Kingdom is NOT boring. It is easily the most beautiful of the parks. The safari, Kali Rapids, Dinosaur and Expedition Everest are wonderful rides and Festival of the lion king is the second best show on property (after Fantasmic). Could it use more rides... sure. But to say its boring is just ridiculous.

Sorry, I guess I was too vague. What I was getting at is that if you consider Animal Kingdom boring, I can't understand how you could consider Horizons _not_ boring. Personally I miss all the Epcot brain food, but I seriously watch Discovery channel 20 hours a day on the weekends. To me Animal Kingdom is all the heart of what Epcot was when it opened, just a different genre.

I still find Busch Gardens more accessible as far as being around animals and I think Horizons was one of the most interesting attractions ever created at Disney.
Besides, comparing a zoo, oops, animal theme park to a ride about the future is quite strange to begin with

all the marketing says it's not a zoo. I believe commercials.
The difference between Horizons (Epcot) and AK is that Horizons was made by people with talent, people with enginuity, people with a love of knowledge and entertainment. Animal Kingdom was made by a twit and under the control of ruthless evil and in all ways ignorant people.
Sure, Animal Kingdom involves similar activities as Epcot and in some cases, those things are fun, but taken as a whole, they fall short.

Dude I usually agree with you but you're way out on a limb here. To say that AK is without any ingenuity is just silly. The melodramatic angle to this whole thread is really strange.

For the most part, you're dead on, but I'm sure in some ways you'd love to be one of those "ignorant people."

This site has a lot of good vintage Disney photos. I barely remember 20,000 Leagues and Horizons. http://www.pansophist.com/disney.htm

1. Stormrider from DisneySea...
2. A remake of the Cars 'test track-like' attraction that will be added to Carsland at Disney's California Adventure.
3. One person from Imagineering in charge of each theme park... Similar to what is now in place at the Disneyland Resort... That way, each park will receive the attention it requires. The Magic Kingdom needs attention!!!!

I agree on AK. And things always get melodramatic over here
