We'll be glad to donate our 2 trees again this year for the BWV. I am a little more hesitant this year as the last person on one of our trees never sent it back. After a few phone calls to lost and found and a great BWV castmember, we did get it back sometime in February. This is the first time we have had any issues and so I'll try it again.

We will be wanting them from:

Tree #1 - December 1-13
Tree #2 - December 1-8

Thanks a million wdwstar, as always, for doing the hard part of putting this together.

Some people do add on to the decorations to the tree with something personal. Some do include gifts for all on the tree exchange.

We have a book that goes with the tree that we've asked people to sign and send best wishes to the other DVCers in.

And last year people did add some room decorations that were passed along with the BWV tree. I think that the experience is as unique as the tree is.

Donna Lynn - as it looks right now you're in "my" group - just so you know I do already have some of the special add-on decorations for the room ready to go...as bobbi mentioned. I really want everything to be a pleasant surprise for everyone so I don't want to say too much - but just don't want you to go too crazy packing "other" things...:santa:

This has been the case. There's been an envelope in the tree box for contributions toward the expense of sending the tree back. I also think that someone in the resorts can help. I've never had to send the tree back, I send it down, and the trees have always come back to me.

Hi!

This is my first post to the DIS board. I am fascinated by the Christmas Tree thread. I know you have probably explained but I was wondering if you could tell me how it works. We are new DVC members--our first trip Dec. 2007. We will be at AKV Dec. 21-27.

Is there a tree available for our time and what is the process? Thanks so much for your help!

As of now, this is the availability of the AKV tree:
ANIMAL KINGDOM VILLAS CHRISTMAS TREE LIST
------------------------------------------------
TREE # 1
SamSam Dec. 3rd - Dec. 7th
Sora777 Dec. 8th - Dec.15th
cvrapclark Dec. 15th - Dec. 21st
TTFN Dec. 23rd - Jan. 2nd
wdwstar (donating a tree) jan.4th - jan.8th

Now, you could be on a waitlist, or decide to send a AKV tree number 2, down yourselves!

wdwstar has organized it, and this is the 5th year. I know we shared a tree way back in '03, we had it in the VWL and brought it over to Old Key West. The practice has really grown, thank you so much wdwstar:goodvibes .

A person signs up. The directions for tree pick up will be posted here. The person who sent the tree down has included in it a list of the people who are sharing the tree, and their "real names" and the dates they will be getting the tree. This is usually taped to the outside of the box, and your name is crossed off when you hand it back. In the tree box will be the decorated tree, and very often some little gifts are included. Last year, I sent a tree that stayed at BWV, and someone contacted me because they wanted to include a little something for all of the members who were sharing the tree. That's not a requirement for sharing the tree. However, there is also an envelope for collection of monies toward shipping the tree home, and donations are appreciated. Usually there's a shipping sticker on the tree so you have some idea of what the cost will be to ship the box back.

Do you still have questions?

Bobbi:goodvibes

Hi All!!

I am ready to start thinking about Christmas!:santa:

First wdwstar, I thought about you while listening to the DIS Podcast and they were talking about how for $400 you can get WDW Florist to deliver a 4ft tree and then ship it to your home.

I thought, OR, you could sign up here!:rotfl:

So thank you wdwstar for being so magical and organizing all of this every year, and it gets bigger and better with each year:wizard:

I cant believe its been 5 years:scared1:

We have a tree to donate to one of our homes AKV, BCV, BWV or SSR. Whichever 1 needs it.

We arrive on Dec 23, but I can ship ahead. Our first resort is AKV and then SSR.

I just sent you a PM. THANK YOU so much for doing this, btw. This has to be quite a task!! I'm so excited to finally be going down at Christmas time and to be able to participate. I've always been admiring the Tree Swap Planners every year - finally it's me!! And I get to share it with my extended family for their first trip ever!!

What a great week. First my BCV 2BR waitlist comes through, and I get to join the Christmas Tree swap. What a great week!

Is it December yet? (Or as I asked at work today - Is it Vacation :30 yet?) The excitement is killing me!!

I want to thank everyone involved in getting this together and donating trees. This will be our first DVC Christmas trip and our boys 3, 5, and 7 mos. will be so excited to know Santa Claus will visit them at Disney because we will have a Christmas tree. I know the decorations at the parks and resorts are nice, but to come "home" with a Christmas tree in your room has to be the best. Again, thanks to everyone involved.

"Christmas" Tree??
I just went to the florist site and looked at the "Holiday" Tree. Over the years the tree has become more and more generic, and this year I don't see any hint of Christmas. Yes, it has lights and ornaments, but I don't see any real Christmas stuff.
It's possible the picture is too small and I just can't see it??

What's next.. The people of the Jewish faith light their candelabrum during Hanukkah?? :confused3

Thank You Dis13 for donating a 2nd tree for OKW! I really want this to be a suprise for the rest of the family. Ugh it's going to be so hard, I stink at keeping secrets especially if I'm excited about it. :goodvibes

We're excited too! I can't wait to start decorating!

If anyone has any photos of Christmas trees from past years, could you please post them.

TIA!

You box up the small decorated tree and ship the box to BWv, i will give you the address. you address it to BWV c/o of the first family and their dates.
you put a return address label with your address. i ship fedex (cheapest, includes $100 insurance). you will make a list with the families names and dates and put it on the outside of the box ( i will provide the families names and dates). you add an envelope inside the box for donations to help with shipping, roll of tape to tape up the box after each family.

THIS is for everyone that will be on the dvc tree lists,

"This is important to take the time and tape the boxs up, we had a few missing envelopes last year and no money to help with the shipping."

the last family will ship the tree back to you. any questions please ask or pm,
i will have more info to come when we close the the tree lists and get our trees ready to ship.

thank you to all that are donating a tree or trees, thank you for sharing the magic.

Not sure if this would be possible but we would love to have 2 Christmas trees Jan 5 thru 12 at BWV. We have 2 reservations at BWV.

We will be coming down the day after our BIL finishes the College program so he will not have had a Christmas with family. Our son and his family will also be down so we would like to have one for them also.

It would be great to surprise them with Christmas trees.

Thankyou.

Thank you so much to everyone who makes this happen - especially the main organizer - WDWStar!! We are so excited to have a tree to surprise our boys with in our villa!!

One question. It looks like we will be the shipper of Tree #4 at the VWL. Where/how is the best place to ship. I'm guessing the best thing to do is call FEDEX for pickup?

Thanks again! :santa:

dnbent you will be on tree #3 & 4 BWV list for the dates of Jan. 5th - 12th.
you will have to ship the trees back to the owners using the donations from the tree boxs, you can take the trees to FEDEX, about two blocks north of goodings grocery store. i will get the correct address when we get closer to our christmas tree sharing. :santa:

Hi,

We have a complicated ressie because I am point short.

Dec 14-15 at POR then we spend 5 days at OKW.
Dec 16-21 OKW
Dec 21 POR

I would love to have a tree at OKW but see that there is already a waitlist. I have a huge 7 ft tree I can donate but it is heavy and big. I can't see that shipping it is cost effective and I don't have decorations for it yet.

Please let me know if another tree is scheduled for OKW or waitlist us please.

I have been so busy with the tree list, working, unfortunate events, and getting things together for our trip that i ran out of time to email "Owners Locker" my arrival dates until the night before we left. When we arrived at BWV for one night before our Cruise, there was our "Owners Locker" waiting for us ! Thank Goodness, when we unpacked the locker, i realized all the things i forgot to bring for our trip and

The sender usually includes an envelope for contributions for shipping to cover the last family returning the tree and to help reimburse the sender's original shipping cost.

There should be enough money in the donations envelope to cover return shipping plus to reimburse the original shipper.

WDWStar usually incldues shipping info when it gets closer to time.

I have a very few families that need to confirm, i have sent you pms. I will not be taking anymore names or be making any changes after Nov. 9th. I have pm the families that are donating the trees with their tree list and names.
The trees will have to be shipped soon with keeping in mind the first family arrival dates of nov. 18th,19th 20, etc. The trees will take from 5 to 8 days to ship depending where the trees are located.

If anyone has any questions please post here and i will answer them. this way if another family has the same question they will be able to get the answer too.

If it a personal question or you would rather pm me that will be fine too.

Please keep in mind the simple rules,

1. pick up and drop off time 11am, pick up does not have to be 11am, especially if your room is not ready, but drop, off is important, because that is when check out is and its easier to drop it off then.
2. please remember your tree # because this will help bell service locate your name on the tree list faster.
3. please remember your dates to pick up the tree and drop the tree off ( these are the dates on the tree list, not your dates you will be there).
because it is only fair to the next family waiting for the tree and not wasting there time tracking down the tree.
4. please cross off your name on the outside of the tree box, after you have received the tree. tape the tree box good before returning the tree to bell service. please make a donation inside the tree box in the envelope to help with shipping to and from the resort.
5.. If you are the last family to receive the tree please use the return label inside the box and dont forget to ship the tree back to the owner and if there is extra money left from shipping please send it to the owner of the tree for the shipping down to the resort.
6. Enjoy the tree!:santa: and Have a Magical Vacation !:santa:

p.s you can always leave a thank you note inside the box for the family that donated the Tree! Because those DVC Members are the ones that wanted to share the magic with you and show everyone that DVC Members are Magical! :santa:
Its getting close for some of the families and im getting excited to share a little Magic with my DVC Members :santa:

I am unable to send a PM but would like to participate. I need a tree for BWV Dec 6 - 9. If I am looking at the list correctly, it looks like tree #2 is available. Is this correct? Thanks for doing this for everyone. You are part of the magic!

dizkneenut , we actually do not have BWV TRee #2, I had to make other arrangements with those families to put them on other tree lists. These families were willing to pick up a tree and bring it to the resort they were staying at and then bring the tree back to the original resort the tree belongs to. I will look at the list and see what i can do, if your willing to do the same, i also have a few families that are on a waitlist to that i need to check first. I cant guarantee, but i will look into it. I start taking names for the sharing a tree July 1st and i close the thread around Nov. 9th. Please do not pm me before July 1st for next year, it would be to hard to keep track of all the names before july. ;)

If one is not available to swap, where can I get one, or more to the point, where are all the others coming from. I would consider buying one to start a new swap tree, especially if you have others on a waiting list. As long as it is returned to me (or you) so that it can be used next year. If this is too late to consider, I'll make other arrangements, but if it helps you I would be glad to do it.

Let me know.

Thanks:santa:

WOW, dizkneenut, im jumping for joy right now! the tree will be sent back to you, i have already taken in an orphan (tree) last year and two trees are plenty for me to send and arrange the tree lists. the trees you can pick up from walmart, target, any place really. the tree should not be any bigger the 4ft, a good size is about 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall. lights, decorations (not glass or exspensive) i also add a string of lights, extention cord for the balcony. you can add any other trinket if you would like, its your tree list (sort of speaking)
you can also read thru the thread and get other ideas.

if this is something you would like to do let me know. im sure i can throw a list together and make other families happy too :santa:

Hey VWL #1 Tree people (Good ol Gal, dsneygirl, Kato0627 & doodle)

I just wanted to let you know that VWL #1 tree has been shipped today and has been picked up at the FEDEX location. It should take 3 to 4 days to get to VWL.

I have the tracking number and will keep you posted on the tree arrival at the resort. If you would like the number, Good ol Gal, just PM me since you will be the first one to share the tree.

The box is brown, 12" x 12" x 40" tall. It has Disney's Wilderness Lodge Villas, DVC Christmas tree #1 sign taped to 4 sides of the box at the top.
The list of people sharing the tree is taped to one side of the box.

I would like to wish everyone sharing the tree and wdwstar a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas :santa: and Happy New Year.

Wdwstar thanks so much for doing all of this for all of us!

I have a question about a tree that starts at one resort and moves to another? We will be getting the Boardwalk #6 tree for my inlaws. It starts at Boardwalk and then moves to SSR. SSR is where we will be picking it up. Will we ask bell services for Boardwalk Tree #6 or SSR Tree # ? Saphire184 Dec. 15th-19th is my inlaws. I thought I would post here in case others have the same question when a tree is moving around to a different resort!

Thanks so much again and thanks to Dizkneenut for donating the tree and to all the others for donating trees! :)

Each box will have SSR Tree # 1 (or #2 or OKW/BWV #1) all around the bottom of the box on all four sides. There is also a plastic sleave on the outside of each box listing the people and their dates. Please cross off your name before passing it along.

I put mine on the tree and bent the ends of the branches back onto the hangers to hold them in place...annnnnd, I'm such a dork :rotfl: , I pulled it back out of the box to see how they'd hold -- and only one had fallen off...

For some reason I thought the point was to send it decorated ... but it boils down to personal preference, right?

We are arriving from the UK on Dec 1st for two weeks staying at OKW. Two members and two visitors. The visitors are our guests and it will be their first time at WDW and we have been trying to work out how to add a little Christmas spirit to our apt. When I read your posting I thought this could be a way of adding that Christmas spirit. Please give me details on how it works and the cost.

***WITHFAITH50 - what does your stocking look like??? I think we might be next door neighbors!! :rotfl: The door next to us has a red stocking on it and we've been dying to know if it's a fellow DVC DISer!***

Well, we bought our tree yesterday, set it up and we love it. Now here's the weird part:

We're currently at AKV, the tree is decorated for VWL, and it's BCV Tree #3!!

The upload is taking forever, so I'll try to post a photo later for the other BCV#3 tree families.

We're spending most of our trip at VWL, so it's really more themed for that (and to be honest, our family room at home ;) ) but even though it has white lights on it now, we did buy a box of colored lights in case your families prefer those.

Hope you all enjoy!!!

Good news and bad news. The bad news is that bell services/front desk could not find the tree when we checked in on Tuesday (Nov20). The good news is that we can confirm that the SSR #1 tree has arrived. It was delivered to our room sometime on Thursday (Nov22), because it was sitting in our room when we returned late that night after a full day at the parks. Unfortunately, we were checking out early Friday morning, so we returned the two (2) tree boxes (unopened) to the front desk (bell services would have nothing to do with them). We marked our names off the list and asked the front desk to hold them for the next name on the list. Not complaining, just explaining. Thanks to the tree donator and to wdwstar for your efforts. Maybe next year!

Hi all,

We are last on the list for our particular tree. How do we ship this back? Can it be done at or through the resort? I assume so, but just looking for a little guidance for the newb! :-) Thanks!

Hehe want to hear something funny???

I sent down 3 trees for fellow DISers to enjoy this year, even though we had no plans to go down in December... I have the trees, why not send them you know??

Then I saw a picture of the castle all done up, and some good friends of mine we taking a secret trip down next month add in $49 fares on SWA and availiblity at OKW 14 days out...

WE ARE HEADING TO WDW IN TWO WEEKS!!!

Funny part... one of my trees availble durning the time we are down there!!!

I thought about PMing the people who have it, and seeing if they could add my name to it, but with such a short trip planned (getting in late Friday night, leaving early Monday. US/IOA and MVMCP) we wont be around enough to enjoy it.

So YAY!!! I miss out on my tree, but I get to see the castle lights!

There should be an evelope included with each tree for everyone to include money to send the tree back to the owner. Just because your last, doesnt mean your paying the total bill to return it.

Hopefully the donations are enough that the tree owner is able to cover their expenses too.

Ok I shouldn't say this.. but the first time we went down at Christmas and had the tree, we never set it up. There 7 nights and just the thought to putting it up, taking it down, leaving it a bell services just didnt seem worth it (mind you at the time my kids were 5,3 and 1 ) This coming trip we are there such a short time with so much planned it really would not be worth it... BUT in two years when we go back for a whole week at Christmas FOR SURE!!! Kids will be way more independant, so mama's life will be a bit less hectic on trips.

WdwStar, Dh and I are at AKV right now, enjoying the wonderful tree you sent down. What a beautiful job you did! It's themed so perfectly for AKV, Dh and I just love it! I have to tell you that DH told me that he wasn't so keen on the whole idea, but once we had the tree and set it up, he loved the whole idea of the tree exchange and wants to donate next year.:)

Just a note for people asking for their trees, AKV did have trouble finding it and I did have to nicely insist that there was a box somewhere with my name on the top of a list of several names. They worked very hard at finding it and had it to our room within 1 hour of check-in.

Thank you so much for all you do WdwStar.

SamSam, glad you like the tree. I'm actually next in line for that tree, picking it up on the 9th. My kids are psyched to get down there. How are the crowds this week?

robmags, I think you will love the tree as much as we do. I won't tell you any details about it, so as not to take away from the first time you see it. We find the crowds a little heavy, but we're extremely spoiled from the years past when off-season crowds were practically nil. The parks are beautiful, and AKL is just gorgeous. Hopefully you won't have any trouble getting your tree, I will be very specific with them when we drop it off but with the volume of boxes, etc. that the staff deals with I can understand how hard it might be to find one box.

Have a wonderful vacation!:)

I've been following this thread with interest, and we're planning on joining in and donating a tree next year. So I'd love to see some ideas and examples of size, decorations, and whatever else you all have to share about the trees. DH and I went looking at trees and ornaments today and are planning to buy ours after Christmas. I just think this is such a great idea and a fantastic example of what's good in the world - warms my heart :cloud9: :santa: pixiedust:

I don't know what happened, but my tree #3 at SSR was not there. After a couple of days, I checked again, and today tree #1 for SSR was found not opened. The name on it was Susan and Timothy Brown, which is not me, although I am Susan Brown.

Since no one had claimed it, I did take it. I haven't opened it yet, will do so tonight. Unfortunately, didn't have a tree all week.

Does anyone have the tree #3 that I was supposed to get at SSR?

Stan

Ok, so that explains the unopened tree #1 that we picked up.

But who has tree #3 that we were supposed to have?

Bell services kept insisting there was nothing for me in their area. Finally a female looked up and said that they were trying to track trees and she would look at the front desk...I don't know what happened. I hope I don't have trouble when I go to return the tree...the wrong tree that is.
