Elmo helps explain deployments

Don't know if any of you have heard about this, I just saw it on a Navy board. It's a video with Elmo and Cuba Gooding Jr expalining deployments in a way that the little ones can understand. You can download it at the Sesame Workshop website. I wish they had these things when my DD was little and Daddy would "disappear"!

We have this dvd and I have a warning about it. First of all, it has comments from "real" soldiers in it (real meaning not puppets) and I watched this about a month after DH left and it was very emotional for me. Also it was confusing for my DS because DH was gone, but they also showed the homecoming on the dvd and he didn't understand that time had passed so this really didn't make sense to him since his Daddy had left, but hadn't come home yet. He had just turned 3 when he watched it, I think it might be more suitable for a child that's a little bit older and has a little better concept of time.

That's just my opinion, of course, someone else may have had a better experience with it.

We have it as well, actually 2 copies. I got one a year or two ago when it first came out, and then in May during our predeployment briefing. I didn't really care for it the first time I watched it (a few years ago) but it does make sense to my kids now that they are older. (4 and 6)

So you don't think it'd be good for a 2 year old? I have it but haven't watched it with Russ yet. I think he might remember his daddy's last homecoming (because it was only three months ago) but he's not really understanding where Daddy is. Yesterday we went to the squadron to drop off a box and he wanted to check every office for Daddy. :(

I think it's fine for a 2 yr old, my kids understand it better at their ages but it's simple enough for a 2 yr old too. Could have just been my impression at the time.
