Anyone else counting down to Night of Joy?
I'm so excited right now! We went from no trip at all this year to taking a group to Night of Joy! So, I've got everything booked and we'll be at WCC on Saturday at 2:30, say hello if you see an odd mix of 12! lol.:rotfl:
Oh, I need a ticker!

Awe! I wish we could do P&P. We are taking the group down for both nights of NoJ and that's it. :) I guess I'll have to be happy with that! ;) It's better than I was going to get, NOTHING! :)

They are kind of new and have a really unique sound. Kind of hard, kind of old school, not a sound that most mainstream like. lol. We like it though. lol. Check them out! You might think they sound/act crazy, so google them first.:yay:

Does Disney release a schedule for what time each band plays and what stage they are on?
MemoryMakers2669
08-20-2007, 04:53 PM
We will have that information before it happens, so it won't be long. The main band, like on Saturday night, will be newsboys. They won't go on until 10:45ish, so it is late.

we all love Newsboys and Casting Crowns...Mercy Me, too. Unfortunately, there are 5 of us to buy additional tix for and we just can't do that on top of an already very expensive vacation.
Soooo... y'all will have to report in to the DIS and tell us how things were.... and even post some pics if you can.

Nothing against you, but just an FYI about Night of Joy. It is PACKED and LOUD! I hate, and I mean hate, seeing little kids there, I just don't get it. By the end of the night, there will be kids, literally asleep ON the streets/pathways. I just feel it is way too much for little kids. Many little kids just crying.
Obviously each child is different. But it isn't like being there for say the Halloween Party or Christmas Party IMO. The music is just wow and then when the crowds get around the stage, it is just so packed.

I'm taking my teen dd for our 1st NoJ!:thumbsup2
I didn't even know about Universal's concerts the same weekend until after I bought NoJ tix. My dd loves Family Force Five! She has seen them already, but I haven't:sad1: It looks like alot of artists play opposite years at both places.

Oh man, you guys are SO lucky. I didn't know about this and I booked our family to go the third week in September, so there was just no chance for us...but I entered the KLOVE contest. LOL. Casting Crowns, the Newsboys (old sentimental favorites of mine) and Chris Tomlin are my absolute favorites. I hope one of you types up a trip report for we unfortunates that can't go.

We did Rock the Universe over at Universal on Friday night. We have never done that before, always just NOJ. Anyway, we didn't like it at all! Don't like the way the had it set up and the crowds were ridiculous. I think them having only two bands going at one time is the main issue. But even the area that they perform isn't great. We couldn't get anywhere near Casting Crowns. We just sat on a bench and listened to them, which was still nice.
NOJ on Saturday was awesome! We were at the stage for newsboys, LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Got awesome pictures, which I will add here later.

Look, an announcement about next year already. Not sure how I feel about it being at MGM! I just LOVE the stage in front of the Castle!
Just Announced!
Not only have we confirmed Mercy Me, Toby Mac, Chris Tomlin, and Rush of Fools for next year, but we would also like to announce that Night of Joy 2008 will be held at Disney's Hollywood Studios!

I guess since MGM has all those stages, but again, I worry that that will make it worse. At Universal, they had Mercy Me on a stage that was fairly open, so you didn't have a problem seeing them. Kind of like the stage in Fantasyland. It was a smaller area than Cinderella's stage.
Casting Crowns though were in an area that was closed in. So, once it was full, noone else was getting in. They had the whole other side with all these booths, so we had no chance at all to even see the stage or them. Didn't like that at all.
So, if they have someone on the Beauty and the Beast stage, I think it will end up that way, once it is full, no one else will be able to really get in there.

Not sure how I feel about it either. There is just something special about the castle stage. The big sorcerer's hat just won't be the same.

I think moving NOJ to MGM will make the crowd problem worse. MGM doesn't seem as big as MK, but the same amount of people will be wanting to go, I would think. Why did they decide to move it there? :confused3
MemoryMakers2669
09-13-2007, 03:03 PM
That is anyone's guess. Maybe they get a lot of complaints about Magic Kingdom closing down so early.
Also, just thought about this, MGM has only a few rides!!! This, I think, will make it even worse crowd wise, as people will have only the concerts to do really. Not like with MK, there a lot of rides, so people are more spread out.

Ya know, my DH was trying to see two groups that played at the Galaxy Palace Theater on Saturday and he wasn't able to even get in. After that, He didn't even try for the one in Cosmic Rays... :(
He said, for someone who really likes the music, it's disappointing to not be able to see the bands. He's all for taking a group to WDW again, but maybe not NOJ. I think he'll give the new location a try though.

Warning: OK, I'm going to be really negative and open a can of worms..
Do you think that this is Disney's way of ending NOJ? Like, if they move the venue, and it's not a good situation, then they could say, well we can't have it anymore because it was too crowded, too many complaints that people couldn't see the bands, etc. I don't know, it just seems like they are trying to marginalize the event.

Yeah, we don't even bother with either the Cosmic Ray's stage or the Galaxy Theatre, because of the way it is set up. The Castle stage is simply the best.

I hope not, but you may have a point. When I was on line for Buzz on Saturday at about 5:00 PM, the guy behind me was complaining to me, saying that he had to get out of here before all of the "religious" people come in. I guess he didn't see my wristband! :thumbsup2
