View Full Version : Just got a call...

I just heard a message on my machine from DVC needing to speak with me about my Nov reservation at AKV. I cannot get a hold of the girl until tomorrow because it's 9pm but now I'm dying! What on earth could this be??? Is this the dreaded call that I can not stay there then?! Does this mean I'm doomed to SSR? What's you guys opinion? What do you think it could be? Has anyone ever had this before? The weirdest part is the caller id says she called from an 407 area code BUT she left me a number with an 321 area code. Anyone know where this is?

I'm dying to hear anything...ANYTHING! :sad1:

Thanks!

I know I know an update already?!

Well, with the mets in a rain delay, I'm now a level higher in cardiac arrest, so I figured I would get a call into her, so hopefully she would call me first thing tomorrow. Ready for this? She is the DVC Member Services MANAGER! :scared1: Oh god! There goes my stay at AKV. :sad2: I don't have a clue on what else it could be now. It can't be good if it's the manager!

I really don't want to stay at SSR. :sad2:

If they must move you tell tell them it must be an upgraded DVC room and the best view. Hopefully all is well.

By no means am I bashing SSR. It's one of my home resorts. If SSR was your least favorite out of the DVC resorts & AKV was your favorite & you're about to be told you are now going to be staying there I think you would be just as disheartened as I am right now.

I feel like they're are some people on DIS looking to flame people.

I really hope you never have your dream trip, that you've been waiting a year for, changed on you with 4 months notice.

ChrisMouse
06-27-2007, 09:45 PM
Everybody chill. :sad2:

Miss Met, hang in there until you hear. There is no point getting all upset until you know. Your language about SSR was a tad over-dramatic...after all, I'd rather be "doomed" to ANY DVC resort than be anyplace else on Earth. It's just that for people who really love SSR, that can cause some hurt feelings. I don't think it really sounds like you meant to do that, though.

We all remember that everyone loves different resorts, and that's why we are SO LUCKY that Disney gives us such variety...and they are ALL GREAT.

I'm sure we are all hoping that you get to stay in the resort of your choice, but you'll have a wonderful time no matter what!

Please, nobody send me up in flames, or I'll start typing Kumbaya... :rotfl:

MissMet

Thanks Chris. :thumbsup2

I will admit that "doomed" was probably a bad choice of words, but it was right after hearing the message. :)

"Does this mean I'm STUCK with SSR?"

Hope everyone is happy with that because that's the best I'll give ya.

I would suspect it's just to warn you about the construction noise. We have three nights at AKLV in November and they made it a point on Monday when one of our WL nights came through to let us know there may be some noise from the construction.

The other thing could be if something changed due to the computers being down all day yesterday...?

But my vote is that it's a CYA call to make sure they can say they warned you about potential construction noise.

It is probably nothing more than a greeting call from DVC to welcome you to the new AKV and to remind you about some construction noise. They probably just want to give you a warm welcome.

I hope...

I'm anxious to hear what the call was about. We have two different ressies in September and have not received a call, so I figure if yours is in November then it's probably not that you are being moved. From what I was led to believe most of the construction will be completed by Sept. and the reason for moving July guests was because they decided to speed up the construction so it WOULD be ready in Sept. Maybe it's good news. I know when I get a call or a certified letter I always expect bad news...but hoping for the best in your situation!---Kathy

Yes, the mets won at least. I knew I should have gone to that game! Rain or not. I'm a primodonna, so if the weather looks bad we don't go. If I had only went I would have only had this suspense this morning.

And, yes you are right, I was never warned about the construction on the phone when making the reservation or on my conformation.

I don't think I'm being moved. It doesn't make sense. I bet it's something silly.

I hope.

Nope not offended, I would feel the same way (about any resort) if loosing an AKV ressie. But SSR would be my last preferrence for a move, and that is not bashing, just my personal choice. I wouldn't refuse SSR, it just isn't my first choice.

Kinda why icecream isn't limited to just vanilla.

Of course, anyone can choose to be offended by anything, if they desire.....

Given the new construction schedule, they will be working on the Giraffe and Ostrich trails and the lobby area while you are there. The back side of the Giraffe trail faces the pool area and two of the Concierge level 2BR lockoffs on the 6th floor face the pool area. They may just want to warn you that there will be work going on in that area.

7 out of the wildcard (in the loss column)....I wouldn't count out the Yanks just yet. I'll agree, it's not looking so good right now, but if there's one thing the Yanks have proven it's they have a flair for the dramatic. There's LOTS of baseball left to play...

:)

Hasn't worked out? Did you see the guys who WERE pitching in the 4 slot? He's a heck of a lot better than them! And Clemens, while not pitching lights out, also hasn't had his doors blown off. The Yankee run support for him has been atrocious....it's like they've fallen asleep lately.

And I wouldn't be crowing TOO loudly about the Yanks plight...the Phillies and Braves are breathing down your necks, and you're coming off a pretty rough patch of baseball yourselves (during which, if you remember, you lost 2 of 3 to those Yanks you're picking on).

Will it be a tight race? Absolutely. However, the mets are not playing like they were the majority of the season and are still gaining ground & I won't even start mentioning the fact that we've still been playing great even with all our injuries we had & still have. Nahh, I"m just a baseball junkie. I'll jump at any chance to discuss the game...even if it's on a Disney themed board. :) It's a disease!

Well, I'm not gonna start debating about baseball.

And yet......you do. :) :rolleyes1 pirate:

The fact remains... 1. yes Clemens is pitching good. I never said he wasn't. I said he couldn't help you guys. All I heard from Yankee fans was that "just wait till Clemens gets back. We'll be back in it." etc. & you guys still aren't. So it was a joke. Clemens is one of the best pitchers in baseball.

He's doing his part, the Yanks lineup isn't. And we WERE back in it (7 out of the AL East and only 3 out of the wildcard) before the Yanks power outage over the last 10 games or so. In Clemens last 3 starts, they've given him 3 runs, TOTAL...and they were ALL in one game. If I were Clemens I'd stand behind every one of them during batting practice and give em good swift kicks in the pants. :)

2. the post season thing was ALSO a joke. Can't I have my moment?

Nope. Not until you hit 26 championships. :rotfl2:

3. With the Braves & Phillies "breathing down our neck", we were just in the biggest slump of slumps. Loosing 6 series in a row & still managed to stay a head of them. Are they great teams? Yes. We still don't even have Pedro back & even if he comes back with the worst season of his life it will still be a great season and a plus for us.

Lets not even discuss or compare injuries this season. The Yanks have been (especially the pitching staff) the walking dead for the first 1/3 of the season. Damon's busted up still, Dougie got cracked in the noggin and broke his wrist, Pavano....well, I can't say that one's a surprise....heck, every pitcher in the rotation has been on the DL except Pettite (and Clemens, though his "delayed launch" almost counts). For that matter, so has 1/2 their lineup.

But the thing is...the Mets were running away with things until the past 3 or 4 weeks. They looked like they were going to win in a landslide. But now.....not so much. And Atlanta is dangerous and ticked about last years streak ending, and the Phillies are young and hungry (a lot like the Mets, in some respects). I'm just saying...I wouldn't count on seeing the post season quite yet, any more than I'd count the Yanks out quite yet.

On Pedro...Pedro isn't the Pedro of yesteryear. I'll grant you, he'll still contribute (if he makes it back this season). But I'm not sure he's much better than any of the 5 you've got hurling now.

And hurry up and get Ms. DVC Manager Chickie Poo on the phone. I subscribed to figure out what was gonna happen. This keeping us in suspense thing is awful! I've half a mind to call this woman and tell her what she's putting us all through! I mean....look...to kill time we've decended to talking baseball on the DIS! Ye Gods! :cool1:

By the way the Yanks are 8 back in the WC race & did you forget that 1.

Note: I said 7 back in the loss column. They are. Cleveland's played 2 more games...so those two 1/2 games don't count as heavily...because it messes up the %'s. The losses are the tough ones to get back. ;)

we beat you in the first subway series & it was almost a sweep & last year in post season who made it farther?

You won 2 of 3 early, batting against a band aid rotation and lineup because everyone was already on the DL, or heading there. At full strength, you lost 2 of 3.

Season series: 3-3.....played you even. Do you really want to say the AL is THAT much better than you by saying a team that played you even, and did a number on you at full strength is "bad"? :cool1: :cool2:

I love Fenway, mostly because of it's history. I'll be sad to see it go (since it will, eventually). That being said, some of the seating, etc just stinks (which, of course, is why it will go eventually). I love it for the feel of the game, etc, but can't stand it for amenities, comfort, sightlines, etc.

Shea, I hate to say it, is a pit. And that apple out of the top hat is so kitschy 70's it makes me want to gag. The new digs they're building looks sweet, though. My mission in 2009/2010 is to catch a game at both the new Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.

Yup, this year, you guys are the real deal. But I'd watch out. You guys have been here before and collapsed after the AS break, and last years string of injuries still has to nag at the back of your mind (and, really, at this point that's the only thing that's gonna stop you guys I think).

I'm not comparing injuries or saying who-is-me, I'm just pointing out a lot of our guys have been on the DL while we were in this slump. Alou is out & has been forever, Beltran was out, Wright was out, Green is playing with a broken foot and was out for a while, El Duque was out, Chavez is out, Valentine was out with a torn ligament in his knee & needs surgery but is still playing (all those were out out the same time mind you) Schoeneweis is also playing with a torn ligament in his knee, Pedro is ahead of schedule and already throwing BP in St. Lucie, Sanchez is out until next year, & with all that we're STILL in first, is what I'm saying. I mean before all our injuries how many had heard of Sosa??? I'm just saying that when everyone is back & healthy we should be dominating once again. And I'm pretty proud of my team with that adversity we're still playing great baseball.

Now it's time to call the lady before we start talking about god knows what else... :rotfl2:

No, they've won ;) 9 straight...you'd need to win 10 to surpass 'em.

They've won 10 of 11 (Baltimore won in '95).

Normally, I'd chalk the "buying titles" up to jealousy from a small market team. I mean...you spend money to make money..that's basic business. But from a Red Sox fan?

You've looked at the Red Sox payroll, right? The Yanks are ahead, but....well...you're 2nd. Granted, by about 30% or so, but still....

With cletes or skates?

With cletes...yeah, but it'd become a bloodsport.

With skates? Ye gods, don't we get enough out of control guys swinging big stick uncontrollably at small objects with Hockey?

Can you imagine Barry Bonds, on skates, swinging a bat? You'd have to raise the average MLB salary by 10000% to get me anywhere near the guy....

Well, now I'm turning your comments right back on you. When you guys played us was when we had the "band aid lineup, because everyone was already on the DL, or heading there. Seems like it, but compared to the small market teams, the Sox Payroll is, um....TRIPLE their's. Also consider that 10 million of our dollars is going to a guy who will never play another game as a Yank (and has only played a handful of them, total) in Pavano. AND the fact the number includes 27 million for A-Rod...and Texas actually picks up a portion of that number (about 9 million). Suddenly that 30% doesn't really seem to be as large "on the field". ;)

Not that that 30% is helping much this year, anyway.

If you're going to talk hockey, I'll jump in. I see the Pred games alot being in the same division as the Red Wings and there have been times you would have thought they were playing in Detroit not Nashville with all the Wings fans in the stands.

I have a feeling that both Toronto and Buffalo will be looking for some $$$$$ if the Preds move to Hamilton. I have heard about a team in Hamilton for over 20yrs and the Leafs have always wanted to much to give up part of their "marketing" area.

Back on topic, I don't think this could be that serious of an issue with the OP's reservation if she hasn't gotten back to her yet.

The difference is that, so far this year, we ARE bad. Not out of it, but certainly "bad" so far. So yes, I'm willing to say we played, EVEN, the best team in the NL and we're as "bad" as them. They're certainly not bad (and I haven't said they were).

But you're doing the same to a team that is squarely in the middle of the AL, right now....which makes the AL look like a powerhouse league compared to the NL. The inverse (which is what you seem to be trying to do) doesn't work....it just says the same thing.

There's been rumors in Hartford for a year or two that the "Bring Back the Whalers" group, who are trying to bring back an NHL team with a new arena, etc, have been tring to work out buying the Preds...along with a couple of other teams.

The guy looking to buy the Preds is the founder/CEO of the company that makes the Blackberry op system and he's a Canadian, so looking to move the team to Hamilton. He hasn't signed a letter of intent yet, but he has been talking to NHL HQ about moving the team, kind of honked off the current owner(putting the cart before the horse).

Things are starting to drop off in Detroit, you could get decent tickets for the regular season and post season(before you'd be off to the ticket broker if you wanted to go to a game).

While I think retraction might be good for hockey, and some of the teams, I'm not sure the league would allow it. It would look too bad. Remember when baseball was considering it? The public relations nightmare that ensued bought those teams a reprieve (well, sort of...one moved, the other was "saved").

I do think some markets are oversaturated, though....I think you could fix that by moving them, rather than eliminating them.

You guys are so funny. I settle down to read the boards with my lunch and discover the "big tragedy potential resort flamefest" has turned into a online Sports Bar social. :lmao:

FWIW, I was just mighty happy to see my O's beat the Yanks again. We don't do much right lately but it's always uplifting to one-up the damn Yankees. Now if baseball could just get its head together and enact some sort of salary cap like football does, the sport might just get interesting again. Dynasties are only entertaining for the team's fans.

So now I guess I'll read the outcome of that call from MS. You can't be on hold that long.

EDIT: Oh so they don't know why? Ahhh, I put this in the category of "If you can't remember it must not have been very important." Next time, I wouldn't be so worried. You should have told her that! A response in a reasonable time is appropriate.

The problem with downsizing the NHL now is the Players Association. Too many would be sent to the AHL, ECHL and so on, There just is not enough top line players in the game today to make a competative NHL with 30 teams.

Hold on to that sentiment.....

I disagree. And you demonstrate exactly why, above. It's the same reason ballparks sell out (and raise their ticket prices) when the Yanks come to town. They have LOTS of fans...true...but everyone wants to see their team beat the Evil Empire. The games "matter more"....just like you express above. And that's because the Yanks are a baseball dynasty. You may hate seeing them win, but, ultimately, they've been good for baseball. Even their spending habits are good for baseball..because their luxury tax/revenue sharing contributions keep MANY small market teams afloat when their revenue, alone, wouldn't.

No, it's not factored into the payroll; nor should it be. That money went to the Japenese team (or league?).
Anyway, that won't be an annual expense like payroll will be.

I know NY fans hate to hear it, but the fact is if the Yanks need a center fielder... or a right fielder... or a pitcher... $13 mil, $10 mil, and $28 mil repectively.

Phillies have a few players that are fun to watch, Should I mention Ryan Howard? Chase Utley? Jimmy Rollins (Your fav) lol.

We could use pitching without a doubt.

Come on down to Philly with your Mets sometime, Just don't wear a Met's Jersey, That would be very dangerous in Philly!! lol, Playing for the Philadelphia fans (not in baseball) was always very special, Coming in as a visitor is down right intimidating!

Wish you and the Mets all the best, You sure do know how to start an interesting thread!!!!

MissMet I am a little late and didn't read the whole thread but its not like your first baseman is about to make an error that will eventually cost you the World Series!!

I went to Philly last season to see the Mets play. We all wore Mets Jerseys. It was the third game of the series, you know the one where we swept you? :woohoo: The fans around us we not bad at all, although, we have heard some stories. Actually, the day we went there were A LOT of Mets fans there. When we left there were a bunch of Mets fans driving around the parking lot screaming & cheering with a broom sticking out of the sunroof. :rotfl2:

By the way I won't even mention yesterday.

Let's go Mets!
