500 men, women, and children lost their lives to Hurricane Audrey when it made land fall in SouthWest Louisiana a day earlier than predicted.

We in the area are quite thankfull and appreciative of today's technology that allows for earlier and more accurate storm tracking and landfall predictions allowing more efficient evacuation of the most critical areas. In 2005 Hurricane Rita traveled along an almost identical path and was a more powerful storm then Hurricane Audrey- completely dessimating property in the same place- yet no lives were lost because of the improved technology.

Please join me in remembering those who lost loved ones on this day.

My son and daughter-in-law lived in Holly Beach, Louisiana until Hurricane Rita totally destroyed the entire town, Everything was washed or blown away, not a building was left when the storm had passed.

Thank goodness everyone living there listened to the storm warnings and left in time, there were no lived lost.

Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live in a time when we are warned of such storms in time to evacuate. May the Angels keep those who didn't have such technology.
