what are connection vouchers?

Help! We are new to all of this - we have seen alot of discussion about connection vouchers. what are they? How do we get them? Has anyone had a bad experience with them? What are the limitations? Are they good inside the parks or just at the hotels? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
