Do they have seats on the back or "trailers" you can pull so your kids can ride with you as well?

They have plenty of bikes with child seats on the back for rent at no extra cost. I don't believe they have any carts though. I don't remember seeing them at least. They also give you the helmet for your child to wear.

Do you need to reserve a bike before-hand like the shore excursions, or is it OK to just go and rent one when you get there?

You don't have to prebook bikes & there are plenty of them. You just walk right up & rent them. They stop letting you rent at 3:00

Where is there to ride? Are there marked paths? How long are they? Do you get to see more of the island this way?

I am also interested in the paths. Nothing is less relaxing than riding a bike on a sandy beach!!!!

First, if you were wondering, you cannot bike back to the ship.

there is a short path from the bike rental, that will take you to the landing strip.
The landing strip will take you to "Serenity Bay".
These are paved, but the landing strip is not smooth since it's supposed to have been there before the island was taken over by Disney.
At serenity bay there is a long packed dirt trail to a very scenic overlook at the end.

Round trip I figure about 3 miles for the entire course.
There are two spots on the trail where water is available.
On the way back, stop at the end of the landing strip and shoot some baskets,

I will be posting a scan of the Castaway Cay map this weekend.

Read this article if you'd like more information about Castway Cay's past... it's an interesting article.

Great article, Dave!! Very interesting, that's for sure, thanks!! Makes me want to bike around the island and think about the history there.
