Hi! I'm super-excited about my next Disney trip in Sept '08; we'll be going to the NSSHP for the first time ever! Problem is, I don't know if my husband and I should dress up with our sons (ages 5 and 6 in 9/08) or not. This will probably be the only time we go to the Halloween festivities for YEARS. (I'm a teacher on mommy-hiatus and will never be able to go to Disney that time of year again until I retire!) So, do all of you adults/parents dress up? Or do you leave the glory to the kids? Do families usually dress up with a theme? I know we'll have a blast regardless, but I don't want to regret NOT dressing up. What has everyone else done? Any suggestions???

i would definitely dress up. i'm sure your kids would find it fun if you did. there are lots of adults dressed up. i've actually seen parents take their kids to these events, and the kids aren't dressed up. i felt sorry for those kids.

We were a family of 3, my DM, DD7, and myself. We all were themed t-shirts I made. I figured what with the heat, and the rain, we would be more comfortable this way-and we were! If we do it again this year, we'll most likely do the same.

Here's a pix of us that night

(Oh, and the webbing on the shirts was glo in the dark and looked really cool in TL with the special lighting.

I went to the Halloween Party last October (2 adults, no kids). I didn't wear anything special and didn't even have a special shirt. That was a mistake. I think I should have worn at least a Halloween-themed shirt or something. If I had really done some planning, a costume would have been good too. I saw lots of adults-only groups wearing costumes, so it is definitely not for kids only.

Have fun!

I'm not a parent...I don't even have kids, but I am a 40 something adult. last year I went to MNSHP ad the Bride in the Attic (beating heart and all) and My friend went as Master Gracey (with roose). We had a blast!! Dress up and enjoy!

By all means dress up. Nowhere else can you be a kid again and not feel silly. We dressed, mid 50's, totally enjoyed the night. when boarding the monorail at the Poly to go over we were like transported to another world, most everyone was in costume from maybe a shirt and hat to the most elaborate adult costumes I've ever seen. singles, familes, girls only, men only, it didn't matter and then walking into the dimly lit, decorated MK, felt like 40 years washed off me and I was 10 years old going out on Halloween night again. Forget you age and stature if life and step into the world to the little ones and let them see that mom and pop can be a blast once in their life and wear a silly costume.

Cool shirts, Disneydaz. I don't wear a lot of Disney t shirts but I would definitely wear that. Nice job.

We went Oct. 2006 and had a blast. My two DS's dressed up as Darth Vader & Spiderman. I went as the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio. I wore my bride's maid dress from my sisters wedding with fairy wings. We will be going again in 2008 to MNSSHP, and we will dress as a family. I have it narrowed down to Wizard of OZ, Alice in Wonderland, or Shrek.

You should absolutely dress up!!! Everyone in my group will be dressed as dalmations, and there's not one kid in our group.

My husband and I went in October 2005 and we dressed up as Lady and the Tramp. My sister made us awesome costumes. We even had a plate of spaghetti and meatballs that I had made out of styrofoam balls that I made and yarn as the noodles. My husband was a real trooper and we didn't have kids at the time. We both love Disney and Halloween so what a great place to be. I also saw parents with their two children dressed as the characters from The Incredibles. Disney is the best place to be and age does not matter when dressing up in costume. Good luck with finding costumes.

I'm getting very excited now. I think I've talked my husband into dressing up. He's 6-11 and stands out like a sore thumb for his height. I think he's afraid of getting too much attention if he dresses up, but I'm sure if everyone is in costume, it won't be a big deal.

I understand that people dress up every night of MNSSHP. I will be there with my DS earlier in October and we are working on costumes that will be fun, but still allow us to ride rides and move around freely.

I've never been but I believe that any night the parade is held you are able to dress up.

Yes you dress up no matter when you go to MNSSHP! I have attended the past 2 years(early Oct. and late Oct.) and I dressed up both times. This year I will attend on Halloween. My dd is getting married at Sea Breeze Point at noon on Halloween and then all the guests(all adults except 1) will go to MNSSHP that night! We are all planning our costumes - can't wait.

Pooh Bear 92 -

First off, welcome to the Dis!

My family and I are going to WDW in October this year. It will be our first trip in the fall.

Check out the thread on MNSSHP (Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party) on the Theme Park Board. In case you don't know what MNSSHP is, here is a brief description: On certain dates in September/October, there will be a special hard ticketed event at the MK. Includes characters in costumes, special parade, dance parties, and of course trick or treating. My understanding is that rides will remain open too. We have dinner reservations for Crystal Palace, and then tickets for one of the party dates. Still don't know what we will dress up as.

I have seen many children dressed up even when it is not Halloween time, just because they wanted to dress like their favorite character. It is Disney after all, why not go and pretend and have fun dressed up.

Have a great trip and use the Dis to get all your questions answered. Lots of friendly folks here, happy to help!

Pam

I went with my 2boys (5 and 3 at the time) my brother and my mom. We all dressed and had so much FUN! Grammy included! There were families dressed as dalmations, some had decorated-t-shirts and others full costumes. My boys had a blast and loved that we were all dressed up and trick or treating together!

DH and I (well over 21!) went last October. We went dressed as Mousekteers: Mickey Mouse Club Shirts, mouse ears, and black shorts. I hadn't been trick-or-treating myself in over 40 years, and all of a sudden I was 9 again. Several of the CM's made us sing the Mickey Mouse Club song before we got our treats. We'd definitely do it again.

What about pirate costumes - I have found hats, eye patches and swords at the dollar store. I made shirts out of stiped fabric but you could buy shirts.
Black belt out of fabric and shred an old pair of short at the bottoms.

I think he would be perfect in a bellman's costume like at the Tower of Terror. There was this one CM at Tower of Terror that scared the sh*t out of myself and daughter. I swear he was almost 7 feet tall, but he was perfect for that part.
