Thanks everyone.. I'm glad he got recognized for all the hard work he does... anyhoo... I think the hardest thing will be leaving the kids with their grams... only an all expenses trip for 2... but will give us time to scope and plan for fam vacation to WDW in 2009... any suggestions on must see things while there? I love all the parks and haven't been in 15 years so not sure what is "must see" right now...

Have any of you been to this before? I am trying to decide if I should make arrangements to go with my 11-year old son who is not sure whether he wants to or not? I already have paid ALOT of money for this trip and do not want to spend anymore if he is not going to have a BLAST!!!

I have never been to a 'hard ticket' event at WDW, this is why I've chosen to give it a go this time around. I think though, if your son was/is into the Pirates movies, then he'd enjoy this night. I believe that the parade is changed to a special one and that the fireworks are spectacular!! People have said to definately not miss the firework's finale :wizard:

I believe also, that because there are a reduced number of guests in the park that evening, then you are able to catch a couple more rides whilst they're on the quieter side. So if you son is into the bigger rides, you'll probably benefit from this evening just for that :)

No P&PP for us. The only date it's being offered for us is the day we arrive on the 23rd. So after leaving here at 6 am (means we need to be at the airport at around 5ish) there's no way I'll have the energy to attend. I'm going to call it a night early. I'm a bit bummed but oh well. I need my sleep more than I need the P&PP. If I don't sleep, I'm miserable and usually end up sick.

And yes, we're two young adults, and I'm hoping we can get into the spirit a little also. We're not dressing up totally, but I've ordered myself a 'Pirate and Princess' t-shirt and DBF's looking out for a Pirate one also. I'm thinking that I may have to find myself a little tiara also ;)

So glad you purchased them, I know you'll both have a blast on the evening!! I'm sure you'll enjoy collecting the 'bounty' that Disney have to offer too, no candy this year, but it'll be fun all the same! Make sure you get yourselves a 'loot' bag as you enter the park! :woohoo:

Hi all...I have just happened across this thread and want to join. I am excited to go as well. I will be there april 10-16 staying for the first time at the yatch club. My dh is staying home with all the animals and I am going with my wonderful parents and dd 10. It will be hard leaving dh at home but it was all we could do since we just got a new puppy and watch my parents dog who is 16 when the go anywhere plus add in the 2 cats well that would cost a week in disney itself to board all of them. I will have mixed emotions since dh and I got married there almost 5 years ago.

They just added a PPP for Wed April 23rd! I don't know about grad night, but I would say that going through April vacation for most schools in the country will most definitely ensure LONG LINES!!! So expect them!!!

Are you having breakfast with Cindy?? Know matter how old you are there is nothing like spending your b-day with Cinderella!! When I asked my daughter where she wanted to eat for her bday she screamed Cinderellas castle!! So then I had to make sure that I got the ressies. I woke up extra early to get the ressie and called and got thru and guess what we got exactly what we wanted!! My daughter was so excited, (not to mention my younger daughter who is 9) What could be better than becoming a teenager in the happiest place on earth!!:wizard: Make sure you get a b-day button and we will be looking for you.

We had Dinner at BIL’s and SIL’s house on Sunday to discuss our Disney Vacation plans. I prepared handouts for the adults and we reviewed them during dinner. Here is a bit of background info and some of the details we ironed out:

Late last year we reserved 3 rooms at SOG from 06-11 Apr 08. The cast and crew consist of three families, 6 adults and 5 kids ranging from ages 12-7, 4 boys and 1 girl (poor Jazzy):scared: . We are all driving from our homes in Atlanta; expected to depart at ~ 0600 and we should arrive at ~12:45 give or take a half hour. We have a SUV and BIL and SIL have a minivan so we will only take 2 cars. The ladies of the Family all grew up in Florida, my wife grew up in Orlando (lucky her), and we visit Orlando a few times a year so we have the drive down to a science. :thumbsup2

I am a DoD civilian and will serve as the sponsor at SOG. My wife and I stayed at SOG back in 1995 for our Honeymoon and we are looking forward to seeing the improvements to the resort. The rest of the crew has never experienced SOG but they have stayed at other Disney properties in the past.

When we arrive, if the rooms are ready, then we will check in, purchase our tickets, have lunch at SOG and let the kids enjoy the pool a bit. We decided to purchase 4 day Magic Your Way Stars and Stripes tickets for everyone so we will enjoy the parks Monday - Thursday. Most of us are Disney veterans and have experienced character dining so we do not plan on doing so for this trip. This will make things go allot easier. We plan on having breakfast every morning at SOG, counter service or sit down lunch at the parks and Dinner at SOG or if we are at a park during dinner, we will have dinner there. SOG has pizza delivery room service up until midnight so I am sure we will take advantage of that benefit at sometime during this trip.

We will have another dinner in 2 weeks to discuss our park visitation strategy. The handouts that I prepared included EMH and info on each park and the resort. We are trying to find the happy medium in-between being flexible and meticulously planning every detail of our trip. More to follow.:dance3:

I cannot wait for our trip now, we're at Disney All Sports with Disney Ultimate Tickets. Means we've got free roam of all the Disney for the two weeks we're there. Looking here on the Dis though makes me want to do EVERYTHING, which I know is totally not possible :laughing:

You must be at Dobbins ARB. DH is AD with the AF and is hoping to get a DCMA job there for our final assignment. He's a J pilot and doesn't care if he drives a desk or an airplane for the last 3 yrs of his career but has heard lots of good things about the job there. We have friends in the Atlanta area and we know it pretty well. Plus it's way better than where we are now. Not going to mention it for fear of offending people who live here and like it. But I'm sure you would probably know where the J's are located.

We're heading to WDW at the end of April after a fun 2 week ORI. Not staying at SoG though, although I think we'll stay there eventually. DH wanted to stay at WL this trip. And if we get to Dobbins we'll definitely be making lots of trips to WDW!

My DH is active duty AF now. We reciently found out that his next base should be Cape Canaveral (not until 2010). Only 1.5 hours from Disney...I am sure we will end up as annual pass holdeds .. I can't wait! :-)

You must be at W-P AFB now. I've heard Patrick is a nice place to be stationed. We knew a family who was stationed there a few years ago and might still be there now, but I know the husband is retiring soon. We also know a guy we were stationed with out in California who was picked up by NASA and is currently an astronaut. I don't think he's flown any space missions yet because I regularly check the mission rosters.

We wouldn't mind getting stationed at W-P for our final assignment since that would only be about 2 hrs from home for me. Scott wouldn't be bad either as that's about 4 1/2 hrs.

I hope he gets the job in FL. As you know, nothing in the AF is a guarantee. I had thought we were going to Scott after our last assignment and then we found out where we were really going. I cried, but it's not been horrible. Not been good either.

We've never gone in April yet. Only end of May, June & August so I'm looking forward to less humidity. My hair is too;)

We finally had our first significant snowfall this winter. It's about 8" today already.

My crew of 6 will be driving down from Atlanta from April 6-11th. This is our plan, because it's the same plan the last couple of years.

First of all, our vacation starts at the library the day before to pick up some books on CD. Then, I lay down sometimes by 4PM. I wake up around 9PM, shower, shave, deodorize, and dress for the park (which is very important, and I'll tell you why later.):idea:

At around 10PM, we load up and move our party to the local Walmart. We pick up some quick breakfast items (because we normally eat breakfast bars and juice boxes for breakfast at Disney), little snacks for the ride, and some No-Doz and Coke Zeros for me, since I'm driving. I also get my gas in Atlanta (because it's cheaper) and I'm on the highway!:woohoo:

With about 1 stop at the Georgia-Florida border for gas, and another about 40 minutes from Disney for another fill up- we're there. It takes me about 7 hours to get there, so we check in, brush our teeth and freshen up, put out luggage "someplace safe", and we are at a morning EMH park by 8AM, riding rides!:dance3:

Now let me show you some secrets that I've learned the hard way from the first time I made this trip. Notice that I took a shower, and pretended that I am getting ready for a day at Disney while at home. OK, the first time we went, uh, I did not do that.:rolleyes1 Needless to say, I was in desperate need of a shower, and I did not know that I couldn't check in to the hotel until after 3PM!:scared1: I mean, here I was- a grown man trying to clean myself in the lobby bathroom! Worst part of my trip... with one exception:

The very first time I took my family to Disney, I drove all night and was so tired that I had to leave the parks to go and sleep in my car. And then in the lobby. And then, finally, in the bed. But with a little nap before hand, No-Doz, and my Coke Zero, I'm up and ready to take on the parks until bedtime!:thumbsup2

We will be at Pop from March 28th through April 6th. I can't wait for some Florida heat and humidity! (RIght now, it's snowing here.) We had a great trip to the World at Christmas and can't wait to return. The kids got to choose where we're staying. They chose Pop, since they'd never been there before. (I thought they'd choose to return to AKL or WL, but who am I to complain when they are saving us so much money -- especially with the just released AP rates.) We go to WDW every 2-3 months, so there's not much planning to be done. However, I do like to keep up with any changes in the World. Also, I'm always interested in "new" things to do with the family.

Squeaky - how lucky that you can go every couple of months! Our trip in April will be my first for 10 years. I know WDW will have changed soooo much since then, I'll be honest and say I'm as little scared as to what to expect :scared:

Last time I was there was 1998 and I had my parents to drag me and my brother around to each different park/activity - this time it's ME who's the leader, as DBF has never been! Overwhelmed, to say the least :blush:

Hi there all, we will be at POR april 18-26, first time on property. When is the pirates and princess party? I thought it was in March. I also just heard that grad night will be there when we are there, any one have any idea about the crowds? Will it be a bunch of crazy high school kids? I would hate to be at the parks with my kids and some rude high school kids without adult supervision.

We will be celebrating my oldest daughters 13th bday while we are there. We have beenplanning this trip for so long, it seems. I have been away from the message boards for awhile, so I feel a little out of the loop. Anything else happening the week that we will be there that I might havemissed?

My DH, DD (4) and I will be at POP on 4/12-4/19. We will be flying in from Dallas on the 12th. I am so excited. I have never been to WDW. I grew up in S. CA. so I have been to Disneyland many times. DH's g-parents lived in FL, so he has been to WDW a few times.

This is also our DD's first trip to WDW. She is so excited... all she can talk about is having the Storybook Dinner with the Princesses at Epcot. She even told her daddy that he cannot go because he can't wear a dress... LOL:rotfl2:

My other car (04 Pacifica) was getting up there in miles and we were a little leary of the road trip with it. I've been eyeing the Ford Edge since it came out. We test drove in November, but I wasn't paying 4.9 interest rate for it...yes that's a decent rate, but I know that ford offers better ones (hubby got an 06 f150 in 9/06 for 0%, yes 0% interest). So I held out for interest rate...I got .9%!! I made out w/the presidents day sales/specials.

So, it's starting to sink in, got the new car, paid off the trip. Starting shopping for spring/summer clothes. Kids each got $100 gymboree gift cards from my inlaws for christmas. I went last week and got a ton of stuff!! Got another $100 in gymbucks that I can use the week before we go!!

April 28-May 2 for us. This will be my first time taking my family. I went when I was a child but I only really remember waiting in lines and it being really crowded. So I'm hoping to really make this crazy fun for my kids. I cant wait to take my son (he's 11) to whispering canyon and him ask for the ketchup. :rotfl:

I will say that I have had a hard time doing my itinerary this trip. With MK closing early 3 days during my trip and morning EMH being the morning after P&PP (which I am attending) I just am not sure when to fit MK into my itinerary. I am leaning towards maybe going to MK Sunday morning and going to MK to see the fireworks and Spectro Mon night.
I would love to see what some other Disers are doing.

After finally booking our resort I figured it was time to officially introduce myself and let someone else do the lurking.:rotfl:

Heading to the House of Mouse as my friend Nellie likes to say for a surprise family vacation April 25-May 4. Well, a surprise for at least one person, DS8..:goodvibes

DS has been there once before on a commando style day after I got free one day park hopper pass from work. We were in Orlando for just a few days and also had freebie tix to Sea World so we just used them and then spent the rest of our time at the resort. Let's just say I would highly discourage anyone from going commando either at the park or elsewhere. :lmao: It was a hot day in August and we hit Animal Kingdom during the day and rode everythg except EE, DS was scared of Yeti and "broken" track after watching Disney Stacy on hotel tv....then hopped to MK in the evening, but because of crowds and our lack of energy only rode 3 rides (Space Mt, Stitch, and Jungle Cruise) and saw Wishes. I must say for a 6 year old at the time he did extremely well, as for myself and DGM I was just glad the day was over and there were no major meltdowns.

This time we are spending 9 days in sunny florida. All will be offsite which suits me and my wallet just fine. We got great deal on 1 Br condo through Armed Forces Vacations (DGF is retired AF) and will spend 2 days visiting relatives in Ocala.

Now you know backstory or at least some of it so here are my questions:

1. Reviews for anyone who has stayed at Silver Lake Resort - Silver Points

2. As a single parent what do you do if child panics before getting on thrill rides even though you know in the end they will probably enjoy the ride...I have shown DS the vacation DVD, he doesn't know we're actually going, but is already saying there's no way he will get on ToT. He did not like Dinosaur last time at all...can we say white knuckles the entire ride...

Also staying offsite at WH. I was wondering the same thing about grad nights. I think that we just may do MK on Sunday after they are over! We are heading to the P&PP on the day we arrive (the 23rd) so we'll get our MK fix right away, and can hit the other parks on Thurs, Fri & Sat.

I can't wait...I was there a year ago with the kids but the last time DH went for more than just a day trip was 10 years ago. I'm a total Disney Freak, and he just doesn't "get it". I'm hoping that he'll convert to my obsession after this 7 dayer!

Hang in there, sport! It is gonna be a GREAT trip no matter how you plan it! I would suggest:
Day 1 Wednesday: perfect as is...
Day 2 Thursday: if you could adjust and head to DHS this day in order to avoid the chaos over at MK since there is EMH there, that might be better. unless you have to work around ADRs. You can do the whole park in one day, in my opinion, without feeling rushed or needing EMH to get it done.
Day 3: Friday: adjust to going to MK the whole day- this way you can break for a rest mid-day and return to finish the night with the PPP if you choose
Day 4: Saturday: adjust to going to Epcot this day with a rest at mid-day, returning to do the big ticket items that were missed in the am in the evening.
Day 5: hit the ones you love and/or missed!

April 28-May 2 for us. This will be my first time taking my family. I went when I was a child but I only really remember waiting in lines and it being really crowded. So I'm hoping to really make this crazy fun for my kids. I cant wait to take my son (he's 11) to whispering canyon and him ask for the ketchup. :rotfl:

Have you thought about making him a 'daisy chain' to count down the days, then he'll know how close he is to going? I've heard people just use 'rings' of paper glued together and tear one off for each day :) I think it's a cute way to count down, plus it'll learn DS to count backwards at the same time :thumbsup2

I want to meet up with you all on the 24th but not sure if we'll be able to since we have lunch reservations at Sci-Fi at 12:30 at DHS. Since we're only planning 1 day at DHS I think we'll be there the whole day.

We leave next Wednesday for WDW, DH and me, his parents, his brother and my best friend. DH's parents have not been to the World in 17 years... they're in for quite a shock at how much it has grown and changed.
