I Just Got Spam By A Dis Member. But Lava Boy Saves the Day

A Dis Member held in high regard and who has been helped favorably by Hosts when it came to his being scammed came into my offer room today, saying A leader under his guest character would enter my room and trade stitch for my offer. The character Who i still have the Guest Number for came in and stole my stuff.

I'm truly appalled at the behavior of this Person who had the boards completely in his defense when the person was scammed and now has decided to scam themself.

This is an outrage! I will contact Mal, Lori, and Aengus with this person's title and I will see that justice be done.

How can anybody steal your stuff?

Did you have them give the stitch to at least a community leader to hold until you got all the items in trade, and then the leader could give the stitch to you? If you are trusting somebody with a Guest name to give you stuff after you click OK on the trade, then that is not a good plan.

Before any editing is done I want to at least put out there why there is such a rule as not being allowed to implicate someone by name publically. Because sometimes its the scammer who falsely accuses someone.

We weren't there to see this first hand. I am sure my position was clear on who I believed, but we cant as a rule assume the first person is right in every case.

I am truly sorry also that this happened and I also hope justice is swift in this case!!!!

Now dont be offended as I go back and edit a couple of posts please. Oh and most importantly there are no rules preventing PM'ing a players name to anyone who requests it.

It's for this reason I rarely trade with anyone anymore. I don't trust easily, as this person is not the first scammer to have made the Dis their home for trades.
As far as him stating that a guest was actually a CL playing on another account...never believe that! If that person were truly a CL, then he/she should have been there AS a CL. Not that it would necessarily stop any possible scam...

I am so sorry to hear about this! I too was a victim of a 2 person scam, brother and sister act in my case! Anyhow in my case VMK caught up to them. All of their items were stripped and they were banned. However nothing was returned to me either. It was still gratifying that justice was served and they lost what they stole and cannot play anymore. Would you mind PMing me this low life's name as I would like to steer clear of the jerk! 1) Only do trades that can be completed in one transaction.
2) Do not lend anything to anybody that you would be sad to lose.
3) Take your time and confirm each time all the items in the trade.

I gift a lot my personal stuff and items that other DISers give me to give out to fellow DIS members...I have loaned numerous things the two years I have been playing and so far the lost of my inferno was the only thing that was never returned.

As a moderator I feel I should be able to trust most all of our members and unless members report other members when they are scammed we have no way of knowing who is scamming on the DIS.

I want to believe that all DIS members are good, honest and trustworthy players...I wear rose colored glasses most of the time.

What a pathetic person he is. This "person" was on my friends list but after the ordeal with the flips I deleted him. I was approached by not one but 2 vmk players that were scammed by him on vmk and furious! Unfortunately I believe I deleted the screen shot of this conversation and also the conversation I had with me telling him what is happening to his reputation. Naturally he had excuses.

I just wonder how staff feels now after they awarded this con with his own special gift.

As they say, and the rich get richer......unfortunately its at the cost of innocent ppl.

I so agree with this. I only have a few rare items and of course I would like Inferno but, I always felt that at some point I would work my way up to getting it. But I have this habit of giving things away, :rolleyes1 I get such a kick out of it. I sincerely hope VMK does something about this trend that is starting to happen more often.

And don't ever assume that somebody you don't know is safe to trust with this kind of trade, even if they actually do have "CL" in front of their name.Yes that would be great if the value of some items was not more than one trade window will allow.I have to say we have only ourselves to thank for that. In cases like this, the trader of the single "valuable" item usually isn't willing to put it in the first trade window, in case the other person runs off with it without giving them the rest of their items. But that in turn makes it possible for them to disappear before the final trade window, without handing the rare item over.

The brat performed the trade as a guest with the OP. Then left the room and traded the hat to his account. Therefore the "guest" has no hat. Reporting the guest is futile, because no hat in inventory. Therefore cannot be caught - even though VMK should be able to identify the IP of the Guest account and the Thief to confirm it is the same person or household. I don't even believe the alleged scamming incident that had arisen a couple of weeks ago even happened. I had two brief conversations with the Hosts depicted in the DIS member's post that either said or implied that no scam or assistance from staff took place. You have to hit accept multiple times for a trade to go through. How people get things stolen from them, I just am completely missing.

Was it a 2 window trade? That's the only thing I can figure out.

I am asking so that others can learn what happened and not have it happen to them.

I believe what they are saying happened is that this person came in to do the trade and they were supposed to be using a CL, but the CL was using a guest account. The CL was going to come in and do the trade as a guest. So the guest was the 'go-between' that was supposed to be a CL helping to "watch over" the trade. Probaby was supposed to 'hold' the items, to be checked by the person who was actually doing the trade, and then give Jeffcat the stich hat after all was confirmed. But the guest was not a CL and did not trade them the hat. Is this correct?

There is something to do about all these scams! Nobody can "steal" your stuff without your participation.

1) Only do trades that can be completed in one transaction.
2) Do not lend anything to anybody that you would be sad to lose.
3) Take your time and confirm each time all the items in the trade.

While I generally follow these rules myself, if you want certain items such as Inferno, beta, Stitch hat, Eye pin, etc, most of the time, you have to do multiple trade windows. It is the fault of both the players and vmk.

VMK is at fault by making items so rare. The players are at fault for being willing to trade away so much to get one item.

This is my thought, too. I've been playing since September '05 and I still don't have Inferno, Stitch hat, most beta, green flips or Sparrow. Anyone that has so much of those items that just started playing gets them by:
a: getting very lucky in many trades
b: getting lucky by having a very large family or group that does not play VMK booking a trip to DLR and ends up getting a ton of Stitch collecitons
c: having some very in-game rich friends giving them lots of free stuff
d: scamming people out of their items.

The girl had gotten a code from going to disney, a special code, infact, a very VALUABLE code. Stitch is now in her possesion! It looks so pretty on her character. Then YOU come along, a disgusting little boy who likes pixels over integrity. You scam her out of her stitch hat, and all of her pretty items that she loved with all her little heart. You crushed her. Her Disney Dreams ruined. Crying her own little heart out. Her mother doesn't want her playing the game anymore, bc it caused her so much misery. See that? you LITERALLY ruined this little 5 year old's dreams. CRUSHED them to smitherines.

There is no doubt in my mind what happened. I will repeat what I said earlier. Setting someone up to be conned, is no different than the person who actually did the deed. In a case like this, it's actually worse.

I am totally amazed this person doesnt hand over a stitch hat and say sorry. We all know he has the means to do so easily.

Would it bring back trust? nope. Would it change any opinions? probably not. But, it would sit in the back of everyones mind, that in the end this person at least has a conscience and better late than never to do the right thing. That would be the first step in starting over.

Ive gotton inferno 7 times in the game and all 7 within a 5 month span ive lost one in a scam but other then that ive traded well and earned it the first inferno you could call "luck" since I pretty much only offered alot of basic quest and a few pirate quest items but then I traded that inferno for alot and traded half of that stuff for another inferno then so on so I guess I could call myself a good trader but sadly People do scam for these rare items which is pointless? why scam?

Hmmm, the room I was in closed and a message from VMK Staff came saying "this room is being emptied while the owner redecorates." Had a few defenders in the room, one going as far as saying it was the players faults for being scammed by the people in question.

ETA: Looks like the rooms are being shut down by staff. I've seen room names being changed to "unacceptable room title" and am getting messages from friends saying they are all getting that "owner is redecorating" message.

I didn't read all the posts but skimmed some..If VMK doesn't start to look at fixing the mess the game has become then they will end up having to shut it down. This is getting out of hand with to many things. I'm sorry this happened to you and by that person of all people. I find it sad that they have tried to claim innocent but yet found it funny. Sorry but you can't find it funny if you are innocent of this and ever expect people to take you serious about trades in the future. I had held my tongue during the one thing but wanted to so badly say so much about how things ended up going down with that person and getting "their" item back. SHAME on you! We all have had to know that with summer comes more of this kind of bad behavior. It stinks but because some don't watch their kids and let them do whatever it happens (of course I'm sure there are adults doing it as well). Something really needs to change. Each player on the home page can bid on say three items and the highest bidder get an item of his scammed stuff. Kinda like a police auction :) That way say a couple of Hundred could win stuff.

From my understanding:
1. There is a fixed number of most of the rare items: stitch, inferno, haunted mansion items
2. If a scammer is caught and the account banned, those items they took are lost to VMK forever - because they are not given back to the rightful owners.
3. Thus, anytime the scammers are banned, the rarity and desirability of the rare items rises.
4. Thus, more scammers come in and the cycle continues.

I asked Lily if it was possible to hack into a VMK account and she said it is possible since you never know what computer geeks are capable of...she also suggested changing passwords. I think VMK must be concerned at this point for Lily to say that!

People did inform her that he wanted to talk to staff (though he made no effort to even try to get in the host room, just said "line is too long"...man if that was me, I'd be really trying if I knew I was being set up)...she said she bet he did want to speak to staff, and that she guesses that puts an end to him thinking that he is on her list (I have a screen cap of that last part). One person wanted to know if their accounts were safe and she said that if we're worried about our accounts, to change the password. She never answered direct questions about what was going on, but she also never denied anything and at one point said that VMK is well aware of what's going on.

I think they should actually when they catch someone scamming take all their items and hold yard sales until all gone. 1 item per person/character. Make them reasonable amounts like a real yard sale.

Ok i have a couple of reasons of the story that was told has many holes in it:

Reason #1: If his account was " hacked " why was he in a Offer for inferno room when the scammer could have just took everything.

Reason #2: he still has green flips, surly someone probably would have took them.

Reason #3: Why would the scammer who hacked the account need another person to help him scam?

Its just the people are scammed out of items and more then likely its from the same person on different accts....as well as some others that are not that person I'm sure. But I saw some people freaking out saying they are scared when I don't think they should be. As well as some saying it was the owner of VMK Pal and that he is the person that stole things and is stealing passwords. I don't think so and I said something about it and tried to say how it isn't a hacking job but someone that is just able to scam others of their items and just to watch the trading and be careful about things. If everyone on VMK right now doesn't watch it I wouldn't be surprised if they take the game down. There are to many guest rooms with this topic (as well as ones against the rules). I am bored so I ventured in 2 different ones with a mule and left shortly after going in...one I crashed in though after a VMK person came in and I think they booted everyone as well cause it looked like a pop up came up behind the crash message. Anyway, just be aware of the trades you do..IF you trade. Don't let someone fool you. If you have a bad feeling about it don't do it. If you see signs of things that could be a red flag warning then take it as that and run from the trade. This whole thing is so out of hand. I feel for those in the game right now that come upon this stuff and have no clue.

Raise the price Mal he'll be able to get them back I gave him 5000 credits that he wanted to "borrow". I didn't like it how he was soooo nice at the start but now I know the real thing. I hope he's ashamed. I mean come on little kids have lost inferno's and stitch's and sparrow's even green flips that have been scammed out of them and he got his items back straight away where those other players have quit vmk or play but from the start(not trading again)

But someone posted that Comic framed the suspected scammer. If that's true, then he obviously WOULD have all that rare stuff. To make it look like there is no possible way he is telling the truth and that everything points to him.

So if he really IS telling the truth, the REAL scammer gets what he wants.(unless the suspected scammer is also a scammer) But if he isn't, we're right up his rear.

Well having never gotten into one of Hula's garage sales and knowing everytime she had one VMK crashed. And knowing that the very first in Would get the infernos or green flips I would hate to see VMK blow up as everyone on VMK tried to get into host game. And I have never made it into a host room before 45 :)

The auction I think is good because it rewards those who have played and have saved credits and still do not own rare. (Cough) like me (Cough) There are many rich people in VMK but I can see those people also giving credits to Mules. So may be it should be you can only win 3 times at one IP address. Now for a larger family might make it tricky.

PLEASE do not confuse Comic_Green with any of the other 'Comic_'s, I have been playing for 7 months and earned all of my things genuinely and have screenshots and FRIENDS (whom I traded to back this up).
Some other the other Comic_'s have been playing a lot less, and some of you are confusing me with this scammer. All day Ive been asked questions and had insults saying that Im a scammer and lots of other things.

I wish people would get all the facts before charging in as it is very stressful for those wrongly placed on the receiving end. Im tired, I really am.

While some of the rumours may be true, those about me being a scammer most certainly are not ;)

Unless someone will provide proof I would personally appreciate it if the members here would not harrass him. remember, harrassing another player in vmk is against the values. I had a small scam this past week, I guess it is my fault as I didn't pay attention. I traded a flag hat for a set of tron teleporters. I asked him if they matched and he said yes, but they don't. I wrote down his name.

Cat, my sister has a room just for those, called "Teleporters that don't match",:rotfl: I bet she'd take them off your hands LOL it is a hoot! We go in there every so often and try them out just for fun.........

Being a trader for a LONG time, it's safe to say I know who it was and I have an idea of how many others are out there, but not saying names.
