View Full Version : Posting to old threads - not allowed

I've been seeing a LOT of new people posting to the DIS.
Welcome.
But please be aware that you shouldn't post to a thread that's more than
a week or so old. Many of the replies to old posts don't make sense to
current VMK issues.
Case in point: Someone mentioned how long the heart chairs will be on sale
in a post from February. By bumping the thread for today, it will confuse
players into thinking heart chairs might still be on sale. They aren't.
They were only for sale in February.
Please don't respond to threads close to a month old or longer.
Sorry if I'm stepping on toes, Mods. But I think it needs to be said.

When I see a thread that has info that seems outdated, I always look at the first post to see when the thread started.
Always pay attention to when the thread was started and there will be little or no confusion. :)

Searching and reading old threads is great!
Bumping old threads with outdated game information only serves to confuse players.
If you see a thread that you feel should not have been bumped, please use the Report Post button to bring it to our attention. We will check out the content of the thread and decide if it's still relevant to what's happening in the game. :)
There are so many current threads to post on, no need to go digging. ;)

I think the problem lies in the "related threads" box at the bottom of the page. Often those threads are really old, but it's easy not to notice the date, and click on them and reply.
It's a really good reminder to look at the date at the beginning of the thread. ;)

I was upset to see Irish's OBNOXIOUS thread bumped to the top this morning. Arg!
Called out for Aengus, and as I was in the process of posting, he jumped in and locked it up. Way to go, Aengus! You obviously type faster than me! ;)

Nope, you are all set, we dont go by when the posts are started, we mean that nobody has responded in over a couple weeks.

If someone finds something in an old thread that means enough to them to want to post about it, and other people find something to respond to in that post obviously the thread has some "relevants" to them, even if it doesn't have any to you.
Just skip the ones you don't want to read. No one says you have to read every thread. :)

I think you mean relevance :rolleyes1
LoriR
07-02-2007, 02:38 PM
"Relevance" is the key here. If a bumped thread still reflects current game conditions or information, that's fine. Such as current quest help , how to change your password, etc..
However, we are seeing way too many posts that contain outdated game information being bumped, which only ends up causing confusion.
Bumping old threads that were announcing new items released weeks or months ago, VMK is down (from a month ago), as well as OT posts to old threads with no relevance to the game as it is today are the main problems.
If you see a thread you feel contains outdated info, or has no relevance to the current game, please use the report post button so we can take a look and decide what action to take.
Thanks!

Aww.... :grouphug:
Yes, I probably should have clarified that relevant info isn't a problem.
I think I used an example of confusing information that was not current to
the game being bumped up, though.

What about games that we play on the VMK Community Board? I saw one bumped up yesterday, but the last post to it was in May. Can we continue on those?

I guess you probably could, but remember that if it had no posts for a while it usually means people lost interest.

Yes, those are fine!! It's just when threads that contain outdated information about VMK are bumped, it only serves to confuse players. If they don't notice the date on the thread, they may think a retired item is back, or the game is down, etc.....
Most threads on the VMKCB are for fun, so bumping most of them shouldn't pose the outdated info problem. ;)

I opened a thread this morning cause I wanted to see what it was. Saw the date was old. I read the new post and it had nothing to do with that thread and on top of it seem to make no sense at all. Plus the bad spelling. I can see why bumping old threads that have nothing to do with the game right now. I'm sure it would be confusing to those that don't check the date of that first post but if you by chance post to an old (or for that matter new) could it make sense, have decent spelling at least and have something to do with the thread?:sad2:

Please PLEASE :) I know when your new, every post shows up as not read, but that doesnt mean its new :) Try and check out the date of the last post before responding.

I read it too and was thinking what Space Mountain ride?? It is hard on new vmk-ers who don't know what is new, and what is in the past.
Sadly it is only after the post doesn't make sense to me, that I look at the date :sad2: :badpc:
Mods is there some way to put these posts at least on the next page, once they're closed, so we don't end up reading as many?

Just think of the work it would entail to go back and lock threads. I give these new people credit, there is one thread I cant find with the search but they seem to have a knack with the search feature.
Also, I think someone has a new title now - forget Lava Boi, I like Lock Boi. ;)
