Prayers for my Mom as well (UPDATE Post 20)

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer about four and a half years ago from today. Her breast cancer is linked with a genetic mutation called the BRCA 1, which gave her a 50/50 chance of getting breast cancer (I also carry the same risk but have not yet been tested). She went through chemo and radiation along with a complete mastectomy to help rid the cancer. Thankfully since she has done all of her treatment she has been cancer free for almost 5 years now. Today she went in for her yearly CAT-scan to determine whether or not she has a recurrence of cancer anywhere in her body. Unfortunately today when she went and saw her doctor after her CATscan, the news was not good. She has inflamed lymph nodes near her breast, and the doctor said that it could be a sign of cancer, among other things. Of course we are hoping and praying that it is something less serious - but the risk is always there. She goes in on Friday to get a PETscan which should give us more information on exactly what it is. If that does not help, she will have to get her lymph nodes biopsied. I would appreciate any prayers and thoughts sent our way as it is a rather depressing time for my family. Thank you for listening (or I guess I should say reading). :)

Doesn't it stink how many women unfortunatly end up getting breast cancer sometime in their life? I don't get why the percentage of women is that high.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has sent thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust my way. I send many hugs back to you! :) I really appreciate it and will try and keep things updated when I find out the results on Tuesday. For right now we are just trying to keep my mom distracted so she doesn't have to think about it too much. Thanks again!

Just a quick update, she had ber PET scan today and it went smoothly. We still won't know the results until Tuesday so I will update again then hopefully.

I would like to thank everyone again for their thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust, I really appreciate it and it has help tremendously the past couple of days. My mom found out the results of her PET scan today and everything appeared to be normal! Thank goodness! She has to go back in again in 3 months for another CAT scan to see if the inflamtion in the lymph nodes has gone down are not. Looks like God has answered our prayers and all is well for my family! :)

Oh sweetie! I'm so sorry you've been going through this! I just found this thread today :( Massive hugs for you! I'm so happy things are normal. I know how it is to have a parent with cancer as my dad's currently undergoing chemo for constantly-recurring melanoma :( I'll keep your mom in my prayers the next few months and hope that the inflammation goes down! *hugs* and *pixie dust* for my favorite pixie :)
