Disney Sees Co./Licensee Retail Sales Up 13% In FY07

June 19, 2007: 09:57 AM EST DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) consumer products arm said retail sales by the company and its licensees are on track to rise 13% to $26 billion in fiscal 2007

Disney Consumer Products said Tuesday the level would double the $13 billion in retail sales generated five years ago in fiscal 2002.

The company said it continues to expand its licensing business, citing the success of "tween" and preschool programming on the Disney Channel as well as successful movies.

Global retail sales for Disney's tween business are on track to reach $400 million in fiscal 2007. The Disney "Princess" franchise expects global retail sales to increase 14% to $4 billion, while retail sales of Disney "Fairies" merchandise are forecast to exceed $800 million.

The company added its "Cars" franchise has generated $2 billion in global retail sales, while its "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has topped $1 billion in retail sales.

Disney's shares recently traded at $34.47, down 7 cents.

I'm more inclinded to believe it's being driven by High School musical and Hannah Montana myself. Both Albums are actually rating ridiculously high on the billboard charts and HM2 is coming out.
