The Gnome Is Home! Woot!

All,

I know this belongs on the community board but I wanted to ensure as many people see this as possible.

I received a call from The Big Gnome on Sunday and he is in the hospital with a blood clot in his left leg. He is doing ok, but that's why he hasn't been on and won't be for a few more days.

Sorry about not getting this out sooner, but I haven't been on much this weekend.

As soon as I contact him for more information, I will update.

This infection may have been the catalyst that "caused" the blood clot (also known as "Deep Vein Thrombosis" or DVT). He is being treated with Lovenox for that. And he has happy pills! Woot the happy pills.

Anyway, as of when I spoke with him, the doctors have no idea when he will be released.

I just now called him to give him your messages, but he had visitors so he's going to call me back. I'll update again as necessary!

As of last night when I spoke to the Gnome, he said the doctors are saying 36-48 hours until he's out of there. He sounded a little tired, but since he had visitors today, that's understandable. He also had just been giving his happy pills.

I just spoke with him today. He sounded ever so tired, but was up to saying, as Dara mentioned, that they will be checking that the clot is gone, with hopes of releasing him Friday.

But he also said he will need significant time before he will be able to get on the computer again.

For anyone wondering, he did ask me to pick up any new stuff for him, and told me how many. So that will at least be covered.

Today's update:

Just got off phone with Grumpy. He is, as expected, bored. Not feeling too bad, just hoping to get out on Monday. Blood work shows the clot is slowly beginning to dissolve!

He says Hi to all, thanks again for well wishes.

His daughter is on the way in to see him and bringing a laptop. If he can get a wireless connection he may even post here in a bit!

Today's update:

Well, seems the gnome enjoys the hospital :rotfl2: (sorry gnome, couldn't resist) , so has chosen to stay until Friday.

Doctor is hoping that by staying until Friday, the clot will have dissolved enough to allow him to go home with "pill" blood thinners to finish the job (as opposed to still needing injections). He is understandably bored, but in good spirits.

I passed on the hugs and wishes.. he is grateful that people still remember him! :rolleyes: Like we could forget! :sad2:

Just got off with our favorite Gnome. His mom is there visiting with him. And, he's waiting for the doctor to come for his daily round. Grumpy is, of course, grumpy about the whole thing.

Aengus, as PurpleDuck posted on #131, the latest was Friday. When I spoke with him today, he was waiting for the doctor to come in, with an updated date. He was crossing everything that could be crossed that it would still be tomorrow.

For the record, the medication that Grumpy has to take to fix this is a royal pain in the keister to manage. I've had a DVT before, and I was hosptialized six times in 18 months, spent innumerable trips to doctor's offices and ERs, and all kinds of lovely complications such as internal bleeding and a bruised heart. Although it sounds to us like the doctors are giving him the runaround, if it's not done right, he could either, a) form another clot, or b) bleed to death. The slightest thing upsets the medication. For example, eating spinach can negatively affect the balance. Yes, kiddies, Grumpy will actually be able to NOT eat his spinach and get away with it!

All we can do is pray, send pixie dust, mermaids, girl gnomes, or whatever your particular belief system. It sounds to me as though his doctors are handling it right, given what I went through 15 years ago. We will get our Grumpy Gnome back, better than ever!
