View Full Version : What shoes do you wear to IOA?

I love Tevas and have several pair. The flip-flops are more comfortable, but I'm afraid to wear them due to the Hulk & Dueling Dragons. I also have some Teva Hurricane sandals, but they hurt after a while. Can you suggest a shoe that can be worn in the water and is comfortable for walking around? Oh, and I don't wear Crocs. ;) Thanks!!!!!

I was just there last week and I bought a pair of Skechers. They are flip flops...however the bottom of them were more like tennis shoes Honestly the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn to a park! Everyone else had on tennis shoes with socks and were really uncomfortable after the water rides.

I've always worn a basic pair of flip flops, which are great for the water rides and for comfort on hot days. Only downside is they can be a bit treacherous on wet pavement...I've slipped a few times, and hit my head once in a parking lot (no major damage done, at least I think :scared: ). The last few trips I've tried Nike Free running shoes, which have minimal support and can be worn without socks. They are incredibly comfortable, but are not true water shoes, so the insoles do tend to stay a bit wet. For our trip next week I'm trying croc flip flops (I would NEVER wear the standard crocs). The croc flip flops are comfy and have much more traction than standard flip flops, so hopefully my feet can stay cool and my head can avoid contact with the concrete.

My croc niles (I don't like the standard crocs either).

A recent great shoe thread!
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1461965

These are what I wear. The Merrels are very soft wit neoprene and dry very quickly. The foot bed is non slippery so my foot stays well placed when these shoes are wet.

GREAT! Thanks everyone for your suggestions! BTW, for those of you who wear flip-flop type shoes to the parks, how do you keep them on your feet while riding the Hulk? Do you take them off? TIA!!

I've never had an issue with flip flops on the Hulk...I've lost other personal items while riding the Hulk, but my footwear has always stayed intact.

Wow! I'm surprised by that. I guess it goes so fast that your shoes don't have a chance to come off.

I cant see how you could lose your shoes on the hulk. Your feet dont hang free like they do on Dueling Dragons. In that case you can sit on them!

On Dueling Dragons they have you take off your flip flops and sit on them.

Cool! I might not have to buy new shoes afterall and just wear my beloved Teva flip-flops. Thanks!

Putting flip flops on your hands for DD is COMMON. It's either that or sit on them. And yes, the TMs will tell you to do one or the other, as long as it is done.

OK, count me in as "anti-Croc"...wore their flip-flop version for the first time during our trip last week and came away with blisters galore along the strap lines (although traction was good...i managed not to fall down and whack my head after departing the Bilge Barges). My sweetie wore a different style of Croc flips and came away with even bigger blisters...

The search goes on for a comfy, non-blister-initiating, high traction flip flop for our October trip...

Those shoes look great! Crocs has a pair very similar to these that I wore all 4 days at Universal/IOA. My feet were fine, and the fact that they were waterproof came in really handy:) .

I've got 3 pair of Tevas so I've decided to take them instead of buying new shoes. I'm going to wear a different pair every day. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

nothing better than being comfy :thumbsup2

DH thought I was crazy for wearing the flip flops above - but there is nothing worse than squishing around in sneakers after they get wet:scared:

I thought about the crocs athens, but I like these ones because the straps on them are nylon/spandex.....love the traction and the fact that my feet remained dry (even when they got wet they dried off quickly) and they didn't rub or blister my feet :thumbsup2

It is just too danged hot to wear sneakers in Florida right now. After a while, my feet start actually burning. Give me my flip flops any day! :goodvibes

DH and I are going on a trip with 70 teens in a few weeks and everyone is required to wear "walking/running shoes". Are there lockers available at IOA where we could stash our walking shoes and change into flip-flops for doing the wet rides? I'm not really excited about squishing around in soggy shoes all day. :sad2:

yes, there are lockers in the front of the park...or on Popeye, you can take your shoes off (after you "push away" from loading area) and store them in the dry bins in the center of the raft (there are also lockers near Popeye you can rent for $2/first hour)

Do all of the water rides have the potential to really soak your shoes, or are there just certain ones that I should watch out for?

You'll probably be okay on JPRA...Dudley it's "ify"...possibly get pretty wet....Popeye will soak your shoes...no if and or buts about it. There are signs into Popeye that say, "You will get wet....You may get soaked" .... There is NO way to ride Popeye and NOT get wet...it just will not happen! I don't recommend sneakers on Popeye if you hate "squishy" shoes..... take them off or wear water shoes.... (you can always take them off and store them in the dry bin)

That was just the info I wanted, bubba's mom. Thanks! :) I was planning on riding Popeye and Dudley back to back anyway, so I think I'll just ditch the sneakers for those two rides and then I should be good to go. Or maybe I could just whip out one of these :umbrella: on Popeye. Think anyone would mind?

The search goes on for a comfy, non-blister-initiating, high traction flip flop for our October trip... I think the problem here is that you said you wore them for the first time during your trip. You never want to take brand new shoes when you are going to be walking 5-10 miles per day. If you had gradually broken your flip-flops in over a period of a couple months, you probably would have been fine. I always take my most comfortable walking shoes even if they aren't that great looking. Blisters can put a real damper on a trip.

i don't think anyone would mind....but :umbrella: is not going to help you one bit.... seriously, i've seen people get off wearing ponchos that are really wet! water comes from everywhere on that ride, up above you, the sides, the bottom...everywhere....
