I think that's what it's called. Anyway, we're. leaving in 19 days (who's counting :~) and I'm starting to have all kinds of little questions now that all the big decisions are made.

I was wondering about this show. Is it something that the kids rehearse for all week? So, is it just available to the kids who are really regular in the clubs? I assume my kids will go occasionally at night but we plan to do a lot of day activities such as Atlantis etc. so I don't know that they'll be spending that much time in there. Can anyone give me some details on this?

Also, over the months I've read several posts mentioning the importance of the kids going to the first night party in the Lab to establish friendships etc. to set the tone for the rest of the week. I think it'll be tough getting them to go that first night with Hercules and The Mousketeer show. Does anyone have any comments on how they handled that first night with the Kid's Club and all the other activities going on? We have late seating.

Thanks
Jenn

I'm not sure about the Kids' Clubs' shows, but I wanted to clarify that it's called something other than "Island Magic". "Island Magic" is a lightweight show designed for kids using some of the Disney characters to get them excited about the upcoming call at Castaway Cay.

The show that the kids are in is called Discover the Magic. They each get a T-Shirt for participating. On our cruise last January they practiced for the show at Castaway Cay. When we Cruised in November they practiced right before the show-which my daughter liked better. My DD didn't use the clubs very much on the first cruise. In Nov., we had late seating. The show was before dinner. After dinner I took her to Oceaneers and she met 2 friends. By the way, my DD is 11 and hated being in the show. She already informed me that she will not participate when we cruise again in June. Nasi

(as usual ;~). I just looked at the Navigators on your (GREAT) site and it is called Discover the Magic. Still, there is a rehearsal time but nothing more. Maybe they just practice for that hour and then it looks like the show is only ten minutes.

We must have been posting at the same time. why did your daughter hate the show. I suppose at 11 it might not be too "cool". My daughter is 9 and loves that kind of stuff. My DN is 11 so it's a toss up if she'll want to do it. Did she like the shirt?!

To call "Discover the Magic" a show is a little bit of an exaggeration. Basically, all the kids from the Club and Lab who have shown up for the rehearsal file up on stage in a group. They sit while music plays and slides from various activities that have taken place in the clubs during the cruise are shown. My DSs participated in a fair amount of activies in the Lab, but I didn't see them in any of the pictures. My impression is that it was mostly the younger kids. At the end they sing a song (or two?) and do some sign language/hand movements. That's what they've had the rehearsal for.

It's cute, probably more so if you have little ones. I can certainly understand why Nasi's DD11 wants to skip it, as there's not really anything fun about it, especially for the older kids who've probably had plenty of on-stage opportunities in school. I won't be surprised if my DS9 and DS11 want to skip it on our next cruise either.

The kids do get a T-shirt for participating, which is a nice, free souvenir. It's white and says "I Discovered the Magic" in a design on the front. I think it's the same shirt every time. It's nothing you couldn't live without, but it's also something they can only get from being on the cruise.

Jdm - the "show" is just what lavne described, not much to it but I thought it was cute. Besides, Mickey joins the kids on stage for the ending. You are right, My DD didn't think it was "cool" at all but both of the friends she met did it too so it couldn't have been too painful. She did like the shirt. I'm sure your 9 yr would enjoy it. If your kids are natural show-offs (like mine is!) they'll enjoy it! Was cuter the first time but second time, we saw a piccie of DD so that make it worthwhile!

A bonus is the Tshirt, which DD had all her friends and counselors sign later (the show is on the last evening) and we have that safe as a life-long souvenir.
