I have been watching for almost a month now for a rental for early June at any of the in or off airport locations. I am usually very picky with just using National but good lord the rates are outrageous for 7 days!
Its almost like they want your firstborn just to let you rent a car at that time....
what gives....??
anybody....any thoughts...??

I don't know why either. I, too, have been checking for our vacation and the prices are around $180 higher than last years' rental rate we got for the same amount of days. I will keep checking, I guess.:( :(

It is probably too early to tell. Though there have been a lot of good discount rates since Sep, I have generally not been seeing them listed more than a couple months ahead of scheduled date. When we went last year in June, the best discount rates at major companies (like National, Hertz) did not show up until about mid-April; I remember seeking a min-van and watching prices for a few months--they continuously went up, down, up etc. on a weekly basis but still too high even when down, and then about mid-April National's price for a van dropped to about $200 a week which price included all the extra charges.

We use Dollar Rent A Car every trip, never a problem and they are located inside the Orlando Airport. You can rent a full size, Dodge Intrepid or similar in June, for $230 a week including all taxs (no insurance added), using a promotion code. A new mini van is $265 a week, all taxs included. My husband travels weekly for business and he uses National a lot (Emerald Club), but I have not been able to get the kind of pricing Dollar offers through National. Some people combine rate codes with coupons and get a good price at National, just depends on what size car you want to rent.

On Dec. 26th I booked a full size at National (EA) for May 28 to June 5, using DC discount and DC Weekend coupon for $167 (tax and all). You can always book now to be sure you have a vehicle, then keep pricing. If you find a cheaper rate, book the new ressie then cancel your expensive one.

Well, something is still up. Dollar full size $230/week? Last year, we got a full size (Intrepid) from Dollar for 15 days for $324 including ALL fees without any code. That is still much higher than last year! I am still hoping they will lower the rates sometime before our trip!
