Hi. I'm Jaime. :wave2: I'm a longtime Dining Board lurker, some time poster.

I spend most of my time on the Trip Reports Board (see signature for proof!) and thought I'd try a dining report.

QUICK RUN-DOWN OF CAST:

Me, Jaime, 39: This is my 16th trip to WDW. I love writing trip reports. I love reading trip reports. I'M BRANCHING OUT WITH A DINING REPORT. I’m divorced, have an 18DD in college in Seattle and a 16DD at home. I eat, sleep, and breathe Disneyworld. I have the best job in the world at a small roofing company. Winters at a roofing company are fun – we had a Yatzee marathon a few days ago. There are only 3 of us girls and the 2 bosses – who are wintering in Pompano Beach (it’s February as I write this). OK, way off track here…

Rhonda, sister, 57: I’m about 95% convinced this is her 37th trip… but she’ll correct me if I’m wrong. When she grows up and retires (February, 2009), she wants to move to Florida and clean up horse poop on Main Street. Our oldest sister, Mia, (65? 64?) is moving with her. After my divorce a couple years ago, they asked me to move with them… to take care of them in their old age… apparently Rhonda won’t be the only one cleaning up poop! LOL!!!!!

Ruth, Rhonda’s co-worker: I don’t know how old Ruth is or how many times she’s been to Disney. I know Ruth likes to do laundry on vacations, she always wore jeans on our last trip (I don’t know how she didn’t roast!), she doesn’t like thrill rides (was not a fan of Soarin’ even!), and (like me) she’s very outspoken. A funny Ruth story from the last trip involved the 50’s Prime Time Café. Ruth had been there before and knew you could get in trouble for not finishing your food, so she brought a zip lock bag and purposely ordered a sandwich. She ate half and put the other half in the baggie. The waitress was behind her, talking to another table, and heard the bag. By the time she came over, the bag with the sandwich was hidden in Ruth’s purse, and Rhonda got yelled at by the waitress for hiding food!

Sandy, former co-worker of Rhonda and Ruth: I think this is Sandy’s 3rd trip to WDW, but I could be wrong on that. I believe she’s in her 60s. But you’d never, ever know it! I thought she was in her 40s when I met her. Sandy will be my roommate for this trip and I’m looking forward to getting to know her better.

I will miss this place when they change it. The food is always good - I even eat my green beans! :goodvibes

FROM THE TOP:
A zebra dome (grabbed that before any other food); bobotie (brown and yellow lump)- looked like meat and corn bread, but was actually sweet - cinnamon, I think; prime rib; chicken (fantastic!); nut-crusted salmon (I liked, Rhonda did not); falafels (little round balls) - BEST item of the night! - with a yogurt sauce; coconut rice; potatoes with afritute (boring).
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4848%3C6%7Ffp6%3C%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C %3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A762%3C385ot1lsi

SECOND PLATE:
Tried to go a little healthier - salad with mango viniagrette - tasty!; 3 kinds of hummus. Turns out I like hummus! Who knew? :confused3
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4848%3C6%7Ffp67%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3 DXROQDF%3E23237%3A762%3B437ot1lsi

LAST PLATE:
Getting full! At the top was a cherry crumble; bread pudding with vanilla glaze; some kind of apple thing; chocolate mousse with alchohol; strawberry tart; in the center - flourless chocolate cake. The only one of these I enjoyed was the chocolate mousse.

It's an average breakfast platter. Lots of food for breakfast, though!

Ruth went with the children's breakfast and a biscuit on the side:

Rhonda eating her turkey leg - I had a pretzel (no picture) and we would switch off. Both were a little too big for one person to eat the whole thing.

what the heck is the filling in the Cannolius Maximus? It looks HUGE! Was it a regular canoli shell? Looks like a creme type filling.

And kona breakfast...mmmmmmm. My favorite tonga toast! It is rich though.

and who is Jack? He looks like he needed a drink.

I am enjoying this review, can't wait for the next chapter. Great job!:thumbsup2

The cannolius maximus is the size of your head. It sits on the dessert bar at Alfredo's. I can only assume it's a real cannoli, but I don't know. My daughter always wants to order it - not that I think you can - but she always says she wants it. :cloud9:

And I have to remember that not everyone travels The World with a 3" McDonald's Happy Meal toy in their pocket!

Captain Jack was the 5th member of our vacation party. He loves to have his picture taken - mostly with food, but he's not picky!

Here he is with the Southwest airplane snack:

***Thanks so much! I'm so glad everyone is enjoying this!***

This is an all you can eat family-style dinner.

First up, salad and rolls:

Beef, turkey, and ham. Stuffing (hiding under the meat). Mashed potatoes. Green beans. Mac 'n cheese.

http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3A5637%7Ffp69%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3 DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7694%3B39ot1lsi (http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3A5637%7Ffp69%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C%3 DXROQDF%3E23237%3A7694%3B39ot1lsi)

Rhonda thought the mashed potatoes were the best ever - me, not so much. Rhonda ate 3 helpings of them. Me, I polished off the green beans.

Then I had 3 helpings of the apple cobbler dessert.

This used to be called the Strike It Rich sundae - butter pecan ice cream with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream with hot fudge. They changed the name, but the ice cream remains the same! I can't remember what they call it now, but I ordered the Strike It Rich and the guy knew which one I meant!

***Again, thanks for all the nice comments. So glad you are all enjoying this! I have several other trips to put up when I'm done with this one!***

This is a family-style meal. All the food is brought out either between acts or as part of an act during the stage show.

We began with salad and cornbread. I don't think I took a picture of the cornbread. They were both very good.
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3B%3C989%7Ffp6%3A%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9% 3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A77%3B7682ot1lsi

OH, WAIT!!! Look behind Jack (he was being a cowboy or he was cold, I'm not sure) - cornbread!
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3B%3C989%7Ffp66%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C %3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A77%3B3%3B%3A5ot1lsi

Were you interested in the room?
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3B%3C989%7Ffp6%3C%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9% 3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A77%3B3%3B%3A6ot1lsi

DANGER! DANGER! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ORDER THE SANGRIA! yuck!!! (and, hey look! more cornbread!)
http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A4%3B%3C989%7Ffp66%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9%3C %3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A77%3B768%3Aot1lsi

Rhonda's plate is to the left with the ribs and chicken. Mine is at the bottom - beans, corn, chicken with the skin eaten off, and ribs.

http://images.photo.walgreens.com/34%3A527%3B%3C3%7Ffp6%3B%3Dot%3E2326%3D679%3D%3B9% 3C%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3A77%3B3%3B%3A7ot1lsi

Dessert is strawberry shortcake. I just must have been having an off night - I didn't like anything but the cornbread and the salad... The rest of the group seemed to enjoy the meal...

YUM! I skipped over here to your review from reading Nemo's TR. (Recognized your name when I was scrolling through the food reviews). I'm a Jamie, too (just spelled different), and we're the same age, so I just had to read about your trip. You all are my kind of eating people! Not a weird thing on the table yet!

I have to ask: do they use fresh pineapple at Kona on the pancakes? I LOVE fresh pineapple (and am sitting here actually eating a cupful I just bought at Kroger's for an arm and a leg). I wish they had a sampler platter for breakfast with a little Tonga toast and macadamia/pineapple pancakes, too! MMMM I think I'm going to roll out of the World after our Oct. trip:rotfl: .
