Car hire is free with Virgin but I heard insurance is expensive.

Anyone know what the figures are please?

Here's the figures from the VHs website:

http://www.virginholidays.co.uk/brochures/florida/info/flydrive/insurance/

You don't need to take VHs insurance or the rental comapnies insurance. You can arrange your own, although you may have to leave a credit card imprint as deposit (does take the money from your card, but will reduce the credit limit).

Check out this thread:

You can also search for 'car insurance' threads - there have been lods in the past.

Although if you require the under 25 supplement I think VH is about the best and cheapest cover you can get.

Hiya,
would go (indeed am going!) with the VH own insurance every time - have had reason to claim in the past and was handled VERY smoothly indeed. Not always the cheapest, but that's not always what counts!

Just looked at price for our 25 night trip in Aug. they would want £562.50 just for insurance:scared1:
Airnet/Dollar car hire and Insurance £504.

They must not make enough from the flights.

VH car hire is shockingly expensive.

We are travelling later this year, and it is far cheaper to ignore the "free car" and rent direct, with insurance, from www.dollar.co.uk

Same car, same insurance, £160 saved. :woohoo:

I second this - VH seem to make the car insurance more expensive to cover the cost of the "free" car!

We've used usrentacar.co.uk twice now - booked Dollar through it in November and then Budget this time. I'd definitely use a Budget car through them again. We booked two compacts - one with a free upgrade to an intermediate (we actually wanted the first to be a compact). When we got to MCO the first compact was upgraded to a PT Cruiser! The second to a standard intermediate as pre-booked.

The other benefit of budget is the line is shorter at pickup than dollar - and they're cheaper :thumbsup2

Register with Dollar.com for their Express program, whatever the regular line is like you go right to the front and its free to join. Never used Budget but I have always had great service and good upgrades with Dollar.
Revtel next time try Airline Network for a quote they are usually a few pounds cheaper than Dollar.co.uk
