Hi there,
I have purchased my resort stay and flights already and now am wondering what to do about Trip Insurance. What do most of you do? Any recommendations for a company for Canadians and/or should I go with the Disney insurance?
Thanks so much,
Paula

As I already have out of country medical insurance from my work, I do not buy any medical insurance.
I decline to buy any trip cancellation insurance, as the risk of loss is usually very low.
I book my flight on JetBlue, so if I have to cancel I get all of my air fare paid applied as a credit (with the exception of the $25 cancellation fee).
For Disney packages, the maximum penalty is $200 ($100 if you cancel more than 5 days before the arrival date).
So for trip cancellation insurance, the maximum loss is $275 USD. The trip insurance will cost approx $100 USD. IMHO, it isn't worth it to pay $100 in cost, to insure a liability of $275.

I have an out of country add on to my Homeowners Policy for Medical...it has a $200 deductible so I still buy RBC as well. It can depend on the terms of your vacation. If it is paid in full up front or not...often if it is, there will be no refund in the case of trip interruption if someone became ill necessitating returning home early. This happened to us a few years back, at Disney actually...and the end result was $$$$
When I travel now I am the MOST over-insured person you'll ever meet!:thumbsup2

I get RBC insurance as well. The travel agents are usually good at helping choose the correct package for each particular trip.
