This year we arrived in the World 2 days after my birthday.... I got my button, and wore it for a week! I was nice and took it off the other 2 weeks we were there.. but I was tempted..lol.
If I was asked when my bday was, I told the truth.. still was wished a happy birthday just as friendly, and got some fun stuff too!! I even got to choose a pin of my choice at the hat store (the name escapes me) at MGM! And, that cm knew the 'true' date of my bday...
Moral of the story.. Celebrate!!! Wear that button!

Victoria and Albert's - The Chef's Table, Part V
After the cheese course but before dessert your serving team will inquire as to your preference for coffee or tea... I highly recommend the coffee. It's Celebes... which meant nothing to me until we ate in the dining room last fall. I'm no coffee expert, but this stuff is great. A full flavored coffee, very rich with hints of berry, Celebes coffee is from Indonesia (at least I think it is). The best part about ordering coffee at V&A is the way it's prepared:
Cool...

Mmmmm...I'll take mine with cream and sugar!

Once the coffee was poured we were each presented with a lovely trio of dessert samplers. No alcohol is served with dessert, which is why Jay and I saved some of our alkie-haul from the cheese course. Rosa Regale is divine with every single one of the desserts we tried and the Tawny Port was no slouch, either.

Miniature Chocolate Pyramid; Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle'; Orange Chocolate Napoleon
Looking at these pictures again makes me want to run amuck in the local French-styled bakery, dunking my head into a vat of chocolate and then inhaling large quantities of fresh whipped cream...stopping only to munch a croissant and possibly an eclair or two...or six.
I'm running out of decent adjectives to describe the food, but I'll give it a try. The chocolate pyramid was a wonder - it looks as if it would be a very dense, thick dessert but it's actually a feather-light mousse that just melts on the tongue. **Drool factor = 5 out of a possible 5 drool cups**
The Kona chocolate souffle was also very good and served with a super gooey, rich sauce that gets spooned into the middle of the souffle at the table while it's still piping hot. An extremely rich and satisfying dessert. **Drool factor = 5 out of a possible 5 drool cups**
Lastly, the orange chocolate napoleon...very attractive presentation...a dessert-engineering marvel...and just not very good in my opinion. But I have to be honest - I don't really like oranges or orange flavored desserts, so I'm biased. I was good and I tried it and then I gave mine to Jason, who didn't complain in the least. **Average Drool factor = 3.5 out of a possible 5 drool cups**
And now it's time for the real dessert...I think our eyes just about popped out of our heads when these showed up because we thought we'd just finished dessert.
Course Nine (Brenda's second dessert)
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/May%202007/DSC02304.jpg
Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee
Perfect...light...sweet...dare I say creamy? I just wish I could have finished it but by this point I was so full I thought I might burst out of my dress if I tried to eat much more.
Course Nine (Jason's second dessert)
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/May%202007/DSC02306.jpg
Caramelized Banana Gateau
They originally gave it to me by mistake, but we soon corrected that. I'm not a big fan of banana desserts, either, other than Bananas Foster. Jason, however, loves banana-ey desserts and he dug into this with gusto. If you're curious like me, a gateau is a light cake or pastry that is usually filled with custard, fruit, or nuts. How 'bout that spun sugar web across the top of the dessert? Pretty cool, huh?
We had one last visit with Chef Scott before waddling out of the kitchen for the night.
I am a God!
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/May%202007/DSC02307.jpg
He even autographed our menus for us - wasn't that nice? As a tip for those of you who like to keep menus from fabu places you've eaten at...always ask for a copy of the menu (you'd be surprised how often the restaurant will give you one) and then ask if the chef will autograph it for you. It makes for a great keepsake. We've done this at Commander's Palace, NOLA, Brennans, Arnaud's, Emeril's, and Tchoup Chop... so far.
One last thing before we left... it reminded me of that scene from The Meaning of Life with Mr. Creosote and the "wafer-thin mint." We were presented with a loaf of spice bread from the GF bakery and two massive chocolate covered Rainier cherries. We took them back to the villa with us to enjoy later in the week rather than create a "bucket" moment in the kitchen. ;)
Can't stop eating...
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l213/oybolshoi/May%202007/DSC02377.jpg
The cherries were awesome - they'd been soaked in alcohol and by the time we took a bite out of them they were potent! Sadly, we never got around to trying the bread but I'm sure it was tasty. I bet mousekeeping thought it was good!
The last surprise of the evening was waiting for us when we returned to our room... some very sweet DIS-friends sent Jason and me an anniversary basket! Totally unexpected...completely overwhelming...a real teary, "some people are too nice" moment. Thanks again Nancy and Chris for your thoughtfulness. :flower3:

Amazing, I just love desserts. The Kona Chocoalte Souffle looked divine. Can I ask if that banana gateau was filled with nuts? I always assumed it was just never thought to ask. The coffee looks great, I can almost smell it brewing:cloud9: I am going to be absolutely stuffed on my wedding night:)

"Are you feeling better sir? Yeah-better bring me a bucket..."
Maybe someday I'll be able to drag my dbf to expierence the Chef's table and WDW for that matter...until then I'll live vicariously through you ;) Thanks so much for all yoru reviews, I have really enjoyed them!

Another fabulous report, Brenda! Bravo!:cheer2: Those desserts looked incredible! Really, you can't go wrong with chocolate, in my opinion!;)
The basket was so sweet, and Plankton looked like he was enjoying it, too!:lmao: The "wafer-thin mint" reference cracked me up.:rotfl: My husband will quote that, with the proper accent, of course, and it never fails to make me laugh.

Brava, Brava, Brava!!! What a wonderful way to end the dinner.....explosion by chocolate!!! (That's how I want to go out!!)
What a wonderful evening! And I'm so glad you left that trail of bread crumbs back to your room so that when you staggered home, you could find your way!
You've done a masterful job of describing/picturing everything! I bask in the shadow of your greatness and probably gained 5 pounds from just reading/looking! Thanks so much for sharing!
Now, take a few days off, read a good book this weekend (:confused3 gee, are there any coming out soon?:rolleyes1 ) and come back when you know if Harry lives or dies!

Anyway, thanks for such wonderful reports! I really enjoy your trippies! :thumbsup2

But PLEASE don't tell! :) I am leaving tomorrow to visit all the in-laws over the next 12 days, and decided to have my book delivered to my mother's. I won't be there, however, until Monday night, but I'm taking my computer with me. So, I'll DIS before I actually get to read the book. Now, how to avoid the media? :rolleyes1
Brenda, those desserts looked truly amazing, and I'm so happy and excited for you that you got to experience on your anniversary. :) Thanks for sharing, and now get back to the TR, missy! :rotfl2:

I always enjoyed that science experiment / coffee maker! I've read reports of people who buy one of those for themselves after a visit to V&A's. Here's where you can get your own Cona vacuum coffee maker (or a cheaper Bodun one):
http://www.espressozone.com/vacuum-coffee-makers.html
Once the coffee was poured we were each presented with a lovely trio of dessert samplers. No alcohol is served with dessert, which is why Jay and I saved some of our alkie-haul from the cheese course. I knew you and Jason were smart. Those probably went very well with the chocolate!
Course Eight (Brenda & Jason)

Miniature Chocolate Pyramid; Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle'; Orange Chocolate Napoleon
Hello! Forget about the other stuff, the Kona soufflé is the best.
Looking at these pictures again makes me want to run amuck in the local French-styled bakery, dunking my head into a vat of chocolate and then inhaling large quantities of fresh whipped cream...stopping only to munch a croissant and possibly an eclair or two...or six.
There you go, painting such an attractive picture of yourself! ;) I picture you having your entire face covered in chocolate and whipped cream. LOL!
The frantic binge eating scared everyone else away from you. :)

I was good and I tried it and then I gave mine to Jason, who didn't complain in the least. **Average Drool factor = 3.5 out of a possible 5 drool cups**
I too find the orange stuff "just ok". I never understood why one of those chocolate orange thingies were so good. I love chocolate, but the orange sort of destroys it. I guess I don't like my chocolate and my citrus to mix.
And now it's time for the real dessert...I think our eyes just about popped out of our heads when these showed up because we thought we'd just finished dessert.

Wow fantasic report! As a local I think your bannanas were plantains, they might have been marked green bannanas in the publix ( I've seen them that way at times) Raglan Road is fantastic, you should try the mussels next time they're fantastic in a garlicy sauce. Good choice to avoid Wolfgang, it's been getting bad reviews in the paper lately. Dosen't seem to be up to the former quality. Oddly Artist Point is also a development in Celebration the Disney planned urban community. Interesting!
I think V&A will be on my 15 yr anniversary list. Wow, I'll have to start preparing now. I've got 2 yrs. Do you think it's enough time to stretch my stomach enough while still fitting into my clothes.. ahh thats the difficulty!

No alcohol is served with dessert, which is why Jay and I saved some of our alkie-haul from the cheese course. Rosa Regale is divine with every single one of the desserts we tried and the Tawny Port was no slouch, either.
Course Eight (Brenda & Jason)

Miniature Chocolate Pyramid; Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle'; Orange Chocolate Napoleon
:flower3:
A tisket, a tasket, the boozies were sent a basket!

That's all folks! I will be back in a few days to answer questions and post a few random thoughts...hopefully by that time the Food & Wine Festival schedule will have been released. Until then, thanks as always for reading and for sharing your thoughts. You're all wonderful and you've made this so much fun to re-live. :grouphug:
See everyone on the flip side of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Until then, be well and happy! :goodvibes
Just had to quote the whole thing, so everyone could see & read all of it just one more time!!!
Brenda that all looks so wonderful, but I'm so sad that it's finished! The autographed menu is such a neat idea, love that. I see you've visited our fair city at least once. If it was just one time, that must have been a whirlwind marathon fine dining trip!
Are you planning your food & wine trip? The schedule is out!:cool1: When are you going to be there again?
Thanks again for the best review ever! Nobody does it better!!:goodvibes

So glad to see you came back Brenda! Hope you're feeling much better by now.:) The presentation of the food was beautiful. The desserts especially looked devine. Thank you so much for sharing your food reviews with us. It certainly gives me soon food for thought as to where I might eat in some of our upcoming trips. Looking forward to reading more reviews for the F&W Festival this year. Be well.;)

Hey all you wonderful DISers who have read or may still be reading this food report! :wave2:
I was supposed to come back and answer questions but I see that I wandered a bit too far and long and now I'm not sure where to start. So, I'll just say thanks again for re-living the food love with Jay and me - we really had a blast posting this and are glad that so many of you enjoyed it.
I also seem to recall that Jay and I did make it to the Earl of Sandwich during this visit, but it was for breakfast rather than lunch. It was OK - honestly I'd have been happier with an Egg McMuffin and a Dr. Pepper than Earl's version of the Scrambled Bacon McBiscuit. Jay seemed to like it, though, and since he puts up with my varied and never-ending levels of bull the least I can do is let him enjoy a fake McMuffin on vacation.
Some day when there aren't 659 people waiting in line I'd like to try a sandwich from the Earl - I want to know if his tuna salad meets my exacting standards. ;)
For those of you on your way to WDW in the next 60 days or so I'd just like to say have a wonderful time, eat good food, and take lots of pictures to share with the rest of us. Jason and I will be arriving in WDW in exactly four weeks and will also be fortunate enough to be meeting some great DISers while there!
Would you like to know where we're planning on eating so that you can re-live one more batch of food love with us?
I thought you'd never ask! ;)
Kimono's, located at the Swolphin (we're going to make up our own Sushi / Sake pairings and then Plankton's going to try some karaoke).
Jiko
Crystal Palace - we're going for breakfast on my birthday!
Bistro Paris - we're going for dinner on my birthday!
Gardenview Lounge - Afternoon Tea
Kona Cafe - breakfast (what else?)
Sci-Fi - I hear the siren call of $10 alcoholic milkshakes
Flying Fish
California Grill
Narcoosee
Rose & Crown
We're also planning on Beaches and Cream, the Yacht Club Galley, Chefs de France, Casey's, Columbia Harbour House, Raglan Road, and anything else that strikes our fancy during this ten day orgy of eating and drinking.
What's that you say? The Food and Wine Festival?
Of course ... we have plans for all those tasty food booths, spread out over many days so that we can enjoy everything without rushing. And as for events... here's what we've booked:
Food & Wine Pairing - Le Cellier
Party for the Senses
Scotch Pairing - Rose & Crown
Food & Wine Pairing - Coral Reef
I wanted a signature dinner so badly I could taste it (ha ha) but we weren't interested in anything that's being offered during our visit. So, this is it - sounds pretty yummy, don't you think?
Look for us in November!

I'm so sorry we'll be missing you guys, but at least I'll get to live vicariously through your fabulous reporting. Pal Mickey is getting really excited, too. How about Plankton?

I don't think Jay and I have any Disney trips planned next year - I'll just have to keep hanging out on the DIS reading about everyone else's good times until we can go back.
You two have a great trip and take lots of pictures! And if we do get to visit WDW next spring I'll do my best to plan it for April.

I just registered solely for the purpose of posting to tell you just how much I enjoyed this food report! My darling husband and I are going to WDW to celebrate our 5th anniversary the last week of January 2008 - my first ever trip to any Disney property anywhere! I'm a total foodie, and I cannot express enough just how much this report excited me for the whole experience! And here I thought I was just going for the rides...
Thanks again for the information, the entertainment, the belly laughs and a bucket full of anticipation!

Hey there! It's nice to see you on the new and improved food porn thread! Although my sundae may have tasted better, your lunch is definitely better for you, so kudos to you for eating healthy! I'm trying to do the same...just not today! :lmao:
Thanks for reading!

Thank you so much...for reading, for posting, and for making me laugh! I would have scrolled back to look, too! In fact, it was after I posted the picture that I thought to myself, "Self, there's not enough dessert in that picture but there does seem to be some chestage on display." And then, "And why are you smiling like that? You haven't needed headgear in more than 20 years so what gives with the buck-toothed grin?"
I had to comment on it...I'm always poking fun at something so I figured I might as well start with me (I'm an easy target!).
Thanks again for reading!
At least disneyholic (and me) had to scroll back up to check out the dessert cleave (yea, I did it too!). That means we didn't catch it the first time which is a good thing, I guess :rotfl2:

Hello there! I saw your post on the Argie Bargie but haven't had a chance to respond to everyone so I just didn't say anything. Nice, huh? ;)
First off, I am ever so pleased to know that Jay and I were able to help expand your liquor cabinet - be sure to let me know what you think of those drinks you end up trying.
Secondly, thanks so much for reading - glad to know you've enjoyed our trippies (or am I just deluding myself? maybe I need to start drinking more ...)
Third ... why can't I remember what movie your avatar is from??? It's driving me craaaaaaazy!!! :headache:

[B]Monday, May 28th - Tonga Toast, Sausage, and Coffee...
In conclusion I'd just like to say that after ten years of pretty constant trips to WDW, it is our gluttonous opinion that the Kona Cafe still serves one of the best breakfasts on property. It's the one restaurant constant in all of our visits and I would recommend that you give it a try some day if you haven't already!
Thanks for reading - Flying Fish coming soon to a thread near you! :goodvibes
I'm always behind in posts... sorry for being off topic by now BUT I wanted to state, for no reason, that I WILL be having macadamia nut pineapple pancakes from Kona on my first trip to the world. Period. (Postive thinking)
And.... I hope we go, I hope we go, I hope we go, I hope we go (fingers crossed)
Also, I love your reviews and TR's. There's a woman on TGMike that has an incredible sense of humor and I think everyone should shell out the $20 for a month subscription just to read her stuff. I'm urging her to post here. Wish me luck!

Oh, and.....lol We bought the Puff n stuff DVD for our kids cause I want them to live the dream. Goodtimes. (once upon a summer time just a dream from yestday....................)

Best food hands down was Raglan Road (Service was wretched :sad2: ). Sleeper hit was Turf Club. Food was fantastic, service top-notch!!!!
According to DH Alfredo's gets honorable mention. (Because he loved his Italian Hostess)  :lmao:

Saturday, May 26th - Duck a la' Bagel and Cheese Glorious Cheese!
So we made a stop at a local Publix on Friday morning and let me tell you... Stereotype Central and highly entertaining. I could write a trip report just about the grocery store, but I won't. ;)
We picked up some bottled water, Pelligrino, Cranberry juice, milk, mini-bagels, pre-packaged cantaloupe and honeydew melon, and a group of green bananas that refused to ripen no matter what we did with them during the week.
Put 'em in a paper bag for a day: still green.
Leave 'em on the sink while we're showering in the hope that the steam and warmth will do something: still green...and definitely damp.
Set 'em outside on the patio for a bit while we nap: still green; and now they're an exotic pleasure destination for adventurous love bugs.
Chuck 'em in the trash and vow never to buy bananas in Florida again: still eff-ing green. :rotfl2:
I'm not kidding...by Thursday these stupid bananas were still as hard and green as they were when we bought them a week earlier; I don't get it. What gives with the Incredible Hulk Bananas in Florida???
Ok, granted I'm a little behind, but I'm trying to catch up honest. Besides, I have valuable information to impart from a native Floridian to a Mid-Westerner.
1. We are very protective of our Publix(es?) (Publixi? anyway...). Now that I'm in Scotland I LONG for the days of massive, beautifully laid-out aisles and aisles of Publix-brand goodness at a significant discount to name-brands. (To this day the only cottage cheese I feel is worth eating is the Publix-brand. It has spoiled me for life. Swear.) The one you went to is the Xentury City Publix on the corner of 192 (what we locals call the West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway) and International Drive (I know that sounds weird because most people think of International Drive being way up by Universal, and it is, but it keeps going a long way and is even split at one point... this is confusing, but just trust me :) ). I agree, it's more than a little worse for wear and being that it's on 192 (where such fine resort establishments as the Viking Hotel, I kid you not, are located it's no wonder that you would have seen a *ahem* interesting assortment of folk). But, it's the closest one to the off-ramp your driver would have taken and so makes the most sense in that... sense. (Dang, I hate using the same word in a sentence twice. Negitive points for me.) Next time, if you're feeling like you need to get away from the riff-raff, ask to go to the Regency Village store (8145 Vineland Ave Orlando, FL 32821). It's very new and very pretty. And on some days they play 80's music. I don't know why this happened, but on my weekly shopping run it always made me happy. :woohoo:
Right, enough of that, on to:
2. Those green bananas probably weren't bananas but plantains. "Plantains are a member of the banana family. They are a starchy, low in sugar variety that is cooked before serving as it is unsuitable raw. It is used in many savory dishes somewhat like a potato would be used and is very popular in Western Africa and the Caribbean countries. It is usually fried or baked. Many people confuse plantains with bananas, some of the differences are noted above. Although they look a lot like green bananas and are a close relative, plantains are very different. They are starchy, not sweet, and they are used as a vegetable in many recipes, especially in Latin America and Africa. Plantains are sold in the fresh produce section of the supermarket, they usually resemble green bananas; ripe plantains may be black in color." We Floridians love our Latino-Caribbean food and so plantains are a mainstay in most good grocery stores, but if you'd never seen them you'd never know the difference. Now, if you'd had a deep frier you could have made yourself some fried plantains  but as it was, you were better off throwing them out.
... I really hope this was helpful and not snarky or know-it-all-ish. Truth be told, I'm just super homesick at the moment so being able to go all uber-Florida nerd felt pretty good. So if you found this at all insulting or annoying I do apologize. I'm just missing home. :flower3: I will now return to the rest of your, no doubt, highly amusing report. And thank you again for sharing. :goodvibes

I want to tell you that I so enjoyed the stroll through the food of WDW.
I will never get to do these foods because I have a "meat and potatoes" dh. No sauces, cheeses (except on a ham & cheese sub) and no veggies, specially steamed. He will eat prime rib so I guess that is his high priced meal. I will at least try something new, not him. :confused3
We are going WDW for our 30th anniversary and I was hoping to try a couple of the places you went to but I sure would hate to see a chef cry when dh got through trying to order. We don't drink so that would hurt their feelings too because we are heathens and don't drink wine with our meals.:lmao:
I guess I will just have to take him to Liberty Tree Tavern again in the MK, that's his kind of meal.
He's a sweetie  but he sure is pickey.
