'disney fund' bank?

Hiya. You know how they sell 'retirement fund', 'travel fund' 'college fund' etc. banks. I would like to make my own 'disney vacation fund' bank. Have any of you ever made one? Where can I get the materials? And care to post a pic. TIA!!!

I don't have a pic, but I bought just a clear plastic jar from walmart. The top is white and screws on. I also picked up some coloring books that have stickers in the middle and I put those stickers on the jar and it is currently holding some money for our august trip. We also got a penny back from Disneyworld that is the castle with the fab 5 and Daisy on it.

I depend heavily on my Disney Fund bank! I make my own for each trip and then deposit extra cash and change in. The end result is my spending money for the entire trip. I am trying to post some pics of the one I am using right now, made out of a cardboard craft box, some paint, a scrapbooking castle sticker and some glass glitter. The most important part for me is to be sure to glue the thing shut! That way I wont be tempted, its a shame to have to ruin it to get the money out but then I get to make a new one. Sorry the pics are yellow the lighting in my room stinks.

Wow, Bethmsu, what a beautiful bank! We got one of those giant water jugs and just put Disney stickers on it and I thought I was creative.

I have a decorated coffee can for spending $ as well, but Bethmsu - your box is really pretty!

For the major trip expenses (airfare, park passes, etc.) we also have a poster we made - like those thermometers they hang up for charity drives. We color in one "degree" for each $50 we transfer into the savings account.

My SM got everyone in the family one of these adorable piggy banks. As you can see, it's been well-used! I don't know how much she paid for them, but the sticker on the bottom says that it was made by Details Personalized Gifts. I have the number if anyone is interested. I don't know if they are still in business because it was several years ago. I have it in the kitchen and even company has contributed to the fund!

You can actually buy these piggy banks at the craft store. I have them in my local A.C. Moore. They are sold plain, but that's great, because you can get the paint markers and whatever stickers, etc. you want and customize the bank to meet your needs. I can't remember how much they are, but A.C. Moore usually gives out coupons for the following Sunday that give you a percentage off your entire purchase. I don't think they are that expensive to begin with though... I think under $10. I actually bought one of the customized ones for my friend from a cart in the mall and I think I paid about $30 for it. I wish I had known I could have bought my own and decorated it myself!

We bought Wish Jars from our local Hallmark stores. These are painted pottery jars with no bottom hole, just the slot to put money in. You literally have to break them to get the money out. We bought each of our nieces a jar, and told them that they needed to save for a "special trip." They don't even know where they are going! :rotfl2: We also have a jar of our own at our house. We have also been "hiring" them to do some extra work around our house, and paying them in Disney Dollars, put directly into their jars. I also ask for my change at the Disney Store in Disney Dollars, so I can't go spend it either. We are taking our trip in September, and have already saved over $600 just by doing this. Any ones and all change gets put in the jar every day. On pay day, all the money left in my wallet gets put in the jar as well. It works pretty well. However, I am NOT looking forward to breaking my jar to get the cash. Mine is blue with daisies on it, one niece is pink stripes (her BD is in October), the other is swirled with orange and purple. The paint isn't sealed, so you could actually use a Sharpie marker to write on them, either names, or Disney Fund, or something.

I am going to go to my local craft store and buy a plain white piggy bank and decorate it myself.
I already have a little hunk of change saved up in a bag that can be put in.

This is a great idea!! I like the ones that you have to break into. Less chance that you'll "borrow" money from the fund!

I use a big, glass, apple cider jug to collect "Mickey money" for our upcoming trips. We deposit our spare change and all the tips I make from my 2nd job into the jar.

Over the course of 7 months, we saved up over $400 for our trip last month! :thumbsup2

Now the jar is pretty empty, but we're slowly saving up again for Dec...

It's not glued down though, but very suprisingly we don't dip into it, just keep putting money in there, it's no-where near full yet though, got another 10 months to work on that!

I do think I need to decorate it now it's been mentioned though...haha!

Ditto---us too, we drop in any extra $$ as well as loose change, and we normally have enough saved to cover a big chunk of our meal costs!!! I have been doing this ever since our first trip! We've never done this, as our children are all grown, but this would be a good way to encourage kids to save, so that they can have extra spending money while they are there!

That's what I'm doing with my DD. If she sees something somewhere like WalMart or somewhere...I tell her...What if we put up the amount of money it is so we can take it to Disney! She sometimes agrees....but sometimes says....'Daddy can just work a little overtime and I can do both!' I get tickled. She's spoiled, what can I say!

We throw all our coin change into an old fashioned clear glass pig that doesnt have a stopper. Makes it very hard to dip into--tho a butter knife makes a wonderful lock pick:rotfl: You have to be careful not to angle the knife and break the slot. It is more fun to shake the heck out of it to get the money out. Good workout:lmao: I cant put bills in it tho cause I dont want to break it to get them out. We make a trip to the Disney Store every 2 -3 months(hour and 1/2 drive to the nearest one) and cash in. They love us:rolleyes1 Ever pay for something with $45 in change, $12 of it loose stuff that doesnt quite make a full roll? :rotfl2: I think they were humoring us last time. This way I dont have any where close to spend the Disney Dollars. See there is a method to my madness. ;)

I actually bought one at the Discovery Channel store for around $15 and it counts the change as you drop it in. I have filled it a few times. It gets to around $100 and it's pretty full. It's so much fun because then we know how much we are putting in there and how much we are saving. My daughter gets so excited everytime we tell her how much money is in it. Even if it's $1 but all she says is it's money so I can hug Mickey!!! It makes you empty your wallet a little more! :banana:

DF and I are saving for our disney moon and disney cruise next year, and we put any money that's in our pockets in the jar at the end of the day and neither of us spend change, so any change we have goes into the jar. Since Christmas we have saved about 500 dollars. We are well on our way!!!:cheer2:

I have a completely separate checking account, solely for vacations. Since I do mystery shopping, half of my payments go into our regular account and the other goes into the vacation account. I don't touch it, so it adds up quickly.

We use the square tins that you can purchase at WDW filled with candy. Mine has Pooh and Friends, my DS has Mickey at different ages,and my niece has the Princesses. There is also one that has the logo from each of the 4 parks, one on each side.

I put all my change in every night. We live in an area where the grovery stores put a "you've saved $$$" on every reciept which totals up sale and coupon savings. I put that amount into the tin also. It really adds up. :thumbsup2

Once they get filled to a certain point, I deposit the money into a special Disney account I have at my bank. Luckily our bank branch has a free of charge self serve change counter, so I just the change in, it spits out a slip with the amount and I give that to the teller for the deposit.

We use the popcorn buckets we get from disney when you buy the popcorn.
When it gets full we put it in are savings. It's nice have extra spending money.

I just finished my Disney piggy bank so DF and I don't have to use a fishing fund jar anymore. I got a plain white piggy bank from micheals and just used sharpie markers to decorate it. I'll take a pic of it and post it later.

I wrapped a shoe box in decorative paper and cut a slip in the top. It is placed in the kitchen, next to the laundry room.
Our family of 5 places loose change from our own pockets, purses and whatever comes out of the laundry (funny how that happens...)
We also have a big lawn sale every year and that money goes into the box too.
We did this for our last cruise and had about $400 in 9 months.
Our next Disney trip is in 3 years, so I am hoping for about $1200. This will be great for a possible upgrade to Poly!!!! (our family dream)
It's fun to save as a family too. I love to hear my 4 year old place pennies in the box and say, "I get to buy a BIG PRIZE when I go to Disney!!"
This box is just about full, so we will have to hide it until the trip and start another.
I have to admit it is kinda nerve racking not to be able to see inside the box to know how much money is accumulating...I like to know everything.

I haven't thought about doing this, does it have to be a certain amount or can you just keep adding it to a card of some type. I must know about this!!!!

Got this jar at a drug store about 16 years ago and for about 12 years it sat on my kitchen counter. Kids added their money to the Mickey Money jar and not unusual for it to have $100-200 in it by time we went. If they got Disney Dollars (the relatives all gave them that) or other paper money they wanted to contribute we would put it in a special envelope. If the jar gets full too soon, we take to a change machine for dollars, put them in the envelope and then start all over with more change. My kids are teens now, so it doesn't have the impact it once had, but it still sits in my little office, collecting change. But when they were little they believed we couldn't possibly go back until they had raised enough money.
