My son and I have ressies for free dining for 8/26 - 8/30. We were upgraded from ASMo to SSR 1 bdrm villa. Our original touring plan was very commando, very hectic, with a late arrival on 8/26 (10:00 PM). I am now thinking thanks to our good luck, we may want to slow down a bit when we are at SSR and enjoy the resort.
So, I am thinking of coming in Friday 8/24 (still late) and staying 2 nights at ASMo with paid dining and 1 day park tickets. We would do a park 8/25 which would lessen some of another day later in the trip (he really wants fantasmic, so we would maybe do fantasmic this day which would make another day much earlier which would be nice because we are also doing P & P Party one night and he usually doesn't stay up that late!). Still following me? Anyway, on the 26th we would check out bright and early and head over to SS. Hopefully we can check in early and explore the resort/pools, if not, we will head to DTD to hang a bit. In any case, I would like to know if once I check out and then check back in (with another set of KTTW cards), will I still be able to use our credits from the first stay on the 26th (our checkout day)? I know you are supposed to be able to until midnight, but I am wondering if checking in somewhere else makes that more tricky?

Two separate reservations. One will not affect the other.

Wow, nice upgrade! You'll love SSR and that 1 bedroom room!!! You will still be able to "check in" early, the room just might not be ready until 4 or so....
We did the same thing a few weeks ago and you won't have any problems at all. You will use your existing room cards to access the DDP meals until midnight.
Enjoy your trip!

Could I ask how you got upgraded??
We are doing a similar thing but staying at our resort. We arrive in afternoon at POFQ and have a 2 night room only ressie. We decided not to add a the parks or dining and will probably go to BB or TL on Saturday, enjoy the resort pool, and dowtown disney without feeling like we are missing a day at the parks. We will then check in on 8/26.

The only hitch I see is that a package (required for dining) must be 3 nights minimum. Of course you would be buying two packages which means two sets of tickets. Why not just do a room only for the first two nights.

Really? The computer let me price it for 2 nights with dining. I didn't know there was a minimum for paid dining (this is before FD starts).
Thanks for the advice all! I actually checked Southwest again and I could switch my flights for Saturday for the same price as Friday (last time I checked it was $200 more!) - so I just went with Saturday night late flight - one night room only at ASMo. Sunday we will head over to SSR, check in (although we likely won't get our room yet), but use the pool, hang out. We will check out DTD as well - maybe do RFC for dinner since we won't be on the dining plan (going to have to get a GC from MyPoints before then!). So, the rest of the trip will likely be hectic, but we will have one day of enjoying the resort, which will be relaxing at least. Some downtime before we go nuts! :lmao:
We got upgraded randomly I guess. There is a thread about it on the resorts board - it seems they oversold the values for free dining - so they offered free upgrades to open up more rooms to sell more packages I guess....

Have you tried calling CRO to see if you can just extend your current reservation? You never know they may give you the extra days at the great rate you got with the upgrade. Worth a shot :wizard:

I thought about that Minnie, but I have to extend on the front of the vacation and FD starts 8/26 the day our package starts, so we would need two ressies anyway I believe....

That was awesome that they grave you an upgrade!!! Have you considered the Hyatt in the airport so you don't have to go over to ASmo to have to move the next morning? They sometimes have some pretty good rate and you don't even have to leave the airport. You would still be able to do DME if you are not renting...
Like someone else said, maybe you could get a one night room only at SSR? Might be worth it!

I stand corrected! I too did the numbers like you and yes indeed it did work for 2 nights. I've always been told the magic number for a package was a 3 night minimum, but it did work with 2 also.
Still, congratulations on your upgrade!!! I'm so excited for all of the folks that got them. What a year for dreams!

There is a 3-night minimum for packages to qualify for free DDP.

Thanks, I guess that's why I thought there was a 3 night minimum for all packages. I've only done two packages in my life and they were both the free ddp (September 05 and August 06). I'm a DVC member and we can buy the DDP any time with no requirements (tickets or minimum stays). Thanks for the info!
