What room improvements would you like to see in future DVC resorts?

Love the extra bathroom idea that they're planning for the AKV villas. I hope that continues.

Love the bench in the master shower. I also hope this continues.

It would be nice if the new DVC resorts offer more space (like OKW). Many of the offsite timeshares offer more space in their rooms. Currently, a two bedroom DVC vacation home for a party of four is great but for a party of 6 to 8 it’s too tight.

For the dedicated two bedrooms, I would like to see seating for six in the living room (sofa, love seat and chair), dining room table for six with chairs instead of a bench and a larger 2nd bedroom so four women sharing a room with two queen beds have enough room for all their stuff.

I would like the Grand Villas, to have more space in the living room, dining room and kitchen like OKW. I really like the extra table in the OKW GV living room for board and card games.

I would also like to see bathroom robe hooks and a hand held shower spray with a long hose in each of the bathrooms.

I'd like a proper dining space in the 1- and 2-bedrooms, instead of a couple of seats here and a couple of seats there.

I'd like a coffee table(s) in the BWV studio! :thumbsup2

Oh, and some sort of night table on both sides of the bed in studios! ::yes::

Don't forget the HD signal, too! Running Disney's current cable signal to big TVs is only going to exaggerate how bad the quality currently is.

Free internet access - lets catch up with the rest of the hotel industry!

I would also like better dining arrangements. There are not enough chairs for the small table (1 and 2 BR), and the breakfast bar is so skinny it can't really be used for much!

I attended the BWV annual meeting in 2003 and both (coffee table & HDTV) were announced as coming up! But they were not specific on the YEAR  .

Can't believe your the only one to mention this after all the debating on the free internet thread.
I would still like to see an adults only/quiet pool area, I love kids but sometimes you want to really relax by the pool or enjoy a hot tub without little one diving in it. DVC has a lot of empty nesters..

I think the rooms are fine as is. I'm not a real big room guy I guess. We love the extra space and having the kitchen/washer and dryer so that suits our needs.

Where I would like to see improvements is general maintainance of the resorts and improved anmenities(sp??). I'd also like to see more activities and scheduled programs for kids at DVC resorts. Child care would also be part of this program as well. Food/drink could be greatly improved as well. Getting a bite to eat shouldn't be such a chore.

Really DVC does a good job but these are areas I'd like to see some improvement and it seems AKV has addressed some on my list.

I agree! We always bring one with us. That tiny light from the hair dryer just doesn't quite do it!

Disclaimer: none of these comments apply to OKW 1 BR and larger.

I also agree with making the dining area larger. It is ridiculously small for 4 (in any resort other than OKW).

And I like the extra bathroom in AKV. Many times we have friends come up to see us. If there was another bathroom we would have them stay with us. We have tried it with the one bath, but it is very inconvenient.

We are having a family reunion of sorts next year. We will probably just have 4 (total, very small family!), but there is a chance we will have more. We are going for a GV at OKW. There is no way I would put more than 4 in the other DVC resorts. To me, 4 was too crowded in a 2 bedroom. Living room could be larger also. And the balconies could stand to be a few feet wider. Tight squeeze out there. OKW balconies are great.

Things I would not change:
Master bath and BR, great!
2nd bedroom is fine
laundry is fine
closet space is fine
kitchen is a little cramped, but not cramped enough for me to complain about (imagine that!).

at OKW at least - put in one of those sleeper chair and make the 1-bedroom be for 5.

the others livingroom are probably a little small to allow this.

so make the livingrooms bigger and start putting that in all. If not 2 of them.

the studio would be 4
1-bedroom would be 5 or 6
2-bedroom would be 9 or 10
while
3-bedroom would still be 12

now I don't stay in a 3-bedroom - so don't need if that needs extra sleeping room or not.

free internet would be nice - might even be enough for me to get a lap top - I know I am so far behind most of you.

would love new TV's. want VCR and DVD - also the ability to still record.:rolleyes1

ITA with both of these. My first thought when opening this thread was "make them as big and open as OKW." :)

I totally agree about the dining space.

DH and I shared a 2 BR at BCV with another couple. We ate lunch and dinner out, but had breakfast in. It was ridiculous trying to seat the four of us at that little table at the same time for breakfast.

Can't imagine trying to squeeze us in for dinner with the extra plates and dinners. If the 2BR's are designed to sleep 8, then there should be reasonable dining space for at least six.

In addition, I would love to see some studios be designed with a King Sized bed, rather than a queen and a sleep sofa.

It would also be great if going forward, they soundproofed the rooms like at SSR. We love that the rooms there are so quiet :cloud9:

Lastly, it would be cool if they all had OKW points charts :rolleyes1 JK!

Just a larger hook on the bathroom door would be nice although a larger shelf so that my shaving kit wouldn’t keep falling into the sink would also be a plus.

Make the one bedrooms so 3 teenage children can sleep comfortably. Then we wouldn't have to bring our aero bed.

Flat Panel wall mounted TV to recapture the square footage that is used up by the cabinet that currently holds the TV.
Free Internet... I get that at a hampton inn. If they can do it for a $99/night hotel, DVC Should be able to handle it. At the very least, make it reasonably priced and make the access price cover the entire visit.

An Ice maker on every floor....with a trash shute to downstairs.

Only thing that I would have thought to change on my
1st DVC trip to SSR last month....

Are all the villas like that....1 icemaker on 1st floor corner:confused3

I am almost positive I saw an ice machine on the 3rd floor of VWL when we were there in May. :confused3 . DH thought the trash container was woefully small when he dropped off our empty shipping box.

What room improvements would you like to see in future DVC resorts?

1. Larger balconies.

2. Much bigger televisions

3. Free internet like the rest of the world

4. Coffee makers that grind the beans, so we don't have to bring our own.

5. More use of bunk beds.

French doors on the master bedroom closets that open out so you don't waste so much space in the closet.

Internet connection by the desk in the bedroom instead of in the living room. Plus move the telephone in the bedroom to the desk instead of the lamptable/end table.

Ice makers in all the refrigerators of 1 bedroom or larger (not just OKW).

Light switch in the toilet room instead of outside the toilet room.

Towel bars on the doors in the shower room so you can hang all the wet towels in the room where they are used.

This is a great idea. There was a thread a while back about whether or not DVC should start upgrading all of the rooms to flat panels. I said no way, as it is not worth my MFs going up. We don't watch much anyway. But the space issue...you are so right about that and I never considered it. I know that there are flat panels at AKV, but in the pics there is also some piece of furniture under it--we'll have to see how much room that takes up in comparison with those huge cabinets. Removing that one piece of furniture alone would really make a difference in the living room. I am still not crazy about the increase in dues in would take to make that happen, though, so I don't know that I could push for it at this time.

This is where it is currently located in SSR. When there, I had to work in the Master bedroom (which was tough as DH was sleeping...had to be on my laptop in the dark...and according to him, I am a very loud typist to boot...:lmao: :rotfl2: ).

At BWV it was in the living room. Not sure if it changes by room or if it is the same for each room in a given resort.

In the BCV it was between the sleeper sofa and the table in the one bedroom living room.

Well, if we're going to go with future changes (as we see DVC has already made changes in the newer resorts), I'll go with my top pet peeves:

1) Free internet access

2) Decent sized table. AKV's table is bigger so we're getting there.

3) Ice cream tables on the balconies (they're higher and easier to use than the dinky little ones we get now).

4) Flat panel TVs for future compatibility and space issues.

I'm going to jump on the free internet band wagon, and the flat screen TV's would also be great!

I would also like to see some more seperate bedding, like bunk beds, or twin size beds or something. Or sleeper chairs, that would be nice.

An extra bathroom (even maybe just a half bath) would be great as well.

And I will also vote for some child-free areas. I love kids but sometimes I just want peace and quiet, if DCL can do it....

YES, definitely.

I really liked being able to have the entire family (5) around one table every morning for breakfast when we stayed at OKW.

The hand held shower spray is so very helpful when little ones are in the shower and need help rinsing off! We have one at home and miss it when on vacation.

We don't do much with eating dinner in the villa, so a larger dining area is not important to me.
The second bathroom and flat screens are a great improvement at AKV. So are the upgraded countertops. :thumbsup2

Still waiting for can-can girls in the living room.

I agree with a lot of what is being said here. Internet access, flat panel TV's, better/bigger dining space - great ideas!

My DH is not fond of the auto-shutoff AC but I understand why they put it in. But what's up with the motion sensor fan? I hate that! It always turns off when I'm in the shower and the room steams up. I open and close the shower door just to reactivate the darn thing. Then when you walk into the master sink area just grab a tissue or wash your hands, the one in there turns on and you don't need it! How about putting it on a timer? You can set it to 15 or 20 minutes while showering and it turns off by itself.

I also think that more than 4 people in a 2 bdrm gets cramped. How about a 1 bdrm with a den? Put the office desk in there and make it big enough to hold a pack-n-play so we can put our DS down in there and still be able to watch TV in the living room. Now we either put him in the MBR and tip toe to bed (and hope he doesn't wake up at night) or put him in the LR and retreat to the MBR.

I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, but I would like to see drawers in the kitchenette of every studio room. VWL is the only one that has them, and they allow for so much more storage space! It always seems like our countertop is cluttered because we have no place to put the smaller food items, and the drawers at VWL work perfectly!

I'd also like to see at least one more storage for clothing in a one bedroom for the people who are sleeping on the pull out sofa. I know that in the majority of cases, it is kids that are sleeping there, and they are fine living out of a suitcase, but as we are empty nesters, sometimes we take friends to WDW and we will end up there because as good hosts, we let our friends use the bed. Even a cheap set of plastic drawers in the closet by the door would work.

Count me in too on free internet (or at least a reduced fee for DVC members), 2 nightstands in studios, and the adult only quiet pool.

One of the features I like about OKW is the parking right outside your door. If they can't do that, then maybe smaller more localized parking lots so you do not have to walk a country mile after a long day in the parks. I also like the larger size rooms OKW has over the other resorts.

I would love to see the extra pull out chair in the living rooms like AKV. Also, if they don't continue the 2nd bath like AKV than at least separate the toilet & shower.:scared: Too many time have I had family members DYING to go to the bathroom while I was in the shower. You know, the shower with ALL GLASS doors & walls. :scared1:

A couple thoughts:

1. I really appreciated the hallway closet at VWL 2BR (I was the one on the sleeper bed); I'm bummed they didn't include it in SSR.

2. The internet connection/phone should be moved from the table next to the sofa (maybe these can go below the flat panel tv).

I would like to see regular cable TV to go with the flat screen TV's. Disney's TV service is pathetic! I should be able to get more than ABC,NBC, and CBS when I turn on the TV. If I can get it at Embassy Suites, then Disney surely can handle that!

Internet service--free.
dining area large enough for everyone in the villa.

First off we would love a fitted bottom sheet on the beds.
Second would be a higher quality dishwasher, and clothes washer, they are loud!
Rehanging the shower door to the other side so the door doesn't block the towel rack.
Bigger trash, and recycling bins in the trash room, and vending machines. What happened to the vending machine next to the ice machine at Boardwalk?
I would love to see some type of telephone, internet desk instead of having to use the dinner table for the laptop when online posting updates, or just transferring pics from the digital cam to the PC.

I second the posters who would like to see an "adults only" pool. I certainly don't dislike children, but sometimes it's nice to have some quiet "floatin' around" time. I also agree about the TV channel selections. I don't come to Disney World to watch TV, but sometimes there are things I'm used to watching and I miss -- like the end of "Project Runway" -- you know, important stuff like that!:teeth:

I would love to see a couple of floor fans in the units for those of us that like to drown out our snoring husbands:) Or at least the option of renting one for your stay. This would save some money on having to ship stuff like this to the resort each time you go and also save you money on having to rent a storage box for all your stuff.

As other posters have mentioned:

1) Free or reduced Internet access - I could accept even $10 to $15 for the week, rather than the current $9.95 per day.

2) Nightstands on both sides of the studio bed - this is a pain for us as we each read before falling asleep and each take a glass of water to bed. I currently take the recycle bin out from under the sink and turn it upside down by my side of the bed, but I have to clean it first!

3) Make the Internet jack easier to get to and don't place it such that you need to use the dining table for your laptop.

4) If DVC where to add an adult-only pool, still leave the close-by quiet pool available for families, as we are sometimes too tired to trek to the main pool but have promised neice and nephew a swim before bed.
