View Full Version : Which bag???

I will be heading to Disney World the last week of August with my mother and sister. I need a comfortable bag to carry around the parks. I went in January with DH and the kids and just used my camera bag. However, it got really hot and irritating by the end of the week.
So, I am looking for a new bag. I will be carrying my DSLR (Nikon D50) with a 28mm lens and a 300mm lens. Also, my cell phone, debit/credit cards, hotel key/park tickets, poncho and a small towel. I need something that will be comfortable and easy to carry. Also, water resistant would be nice.
I have been looking around and have narrowed it down to a couple. Which of these would be better? Or is there something better?
The OGIO Tease - $40.95 (zappos.com)

The Overland Equpiment Donner - $57.95 (zappos.com)

The Baggallini Messenger Sling - $29.74 (ebags.com)

TIA for any help!! :flower3:

Did you read my "Great Park Bag" post?! ;) Check it out b/c I found an AWESOME Park bag!!!I found the Diaper Dude messenger bag and that is what I'm taking this year! I was worried that my Donner bag would be STUFFED with the needs of four people...two children and two adults. So I went looking for a bag that that would be easily accessible, not too girly, and able to hold a fair amount of stuff without getting hugely heavy. It's got padding on the strap, pockets galore AND bottle holders! As in Diet Coke bottle holders!!:thumbsup2 It's got fun colors and designs aimed at men and you would never know it was a diaper bag. It just looks like a messenger bag. I got mine at www.travelingtikes.com for $49.99, shipping was free! (it's the lowest price on the web! The camo print bag I got was $65.99 in stores and online!) Their customer service department is AWESOME! Okay...now that my public service announcement is over...
...Like I said, I have an Overland Donner bag that I carried last year at the parks. It was GREAT! I love the bottle carriers on either side of the bag! (also fits an umbrella very nicely!) It's a great bag, roomy and sleek! I love the color choices too! You can get it for quite a bit less than at Zappos though. check E-bags. I got mine for way less than $57! If you google "ebags coupons" you can sometimes find 10%-20% off your purchase. The only thing I didn't like much about the Donner bag was that it started to feel really heavy after a little bit and the strap isn't cushioned. Of course that could be b/c I put a lot of stuff in it!
good luck!!!:thumbsup2
PS-Zappos has Diaper Dude bags too...way over priced on their site, but you can look at several pictures of the bag to get an idea of what it looks like!

Thank you for your response.
Yes, I did see your post about the bag you found - and I looked into it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like a bag I would buy. I am looking for a "girly" looking bag. ;) But, I also need it to be roomy enough for my camera, but compact enough to be comfortable. I really didn't like the color choices they have for the Diaper Dude. The only "girly" looking one they had was with camo on it. I absolutely cannot stand camo - neither can DH.
Thankfully, on this trip I only need to carry my stuff since DH and the kids aren't going with me. My mom and sister will need to carry their own stuff!! :lmao: Thank you, again, for your response. I'm glad you found a bag that will work for your family. I never thought finding a bag would be this complicated!! :rotfl:

OH, well in THAT case...I'd say the Overland donner bag would be PERFECT for you!! It's will hold everything you need without looking bulky! I really love my donner bag. It was a great park bag for even two people. I had no trouble taking it on rides either. You can get a really fun color and print too! I wouldn't carry a big loud bag either if I was only worrying about carrying my own stuff!
Check out ebags! I love zappos, I really do, but they say their overnight shipping is free, but really you are paying for it in their inflated prices. If you want something ASAP, Zappos is your store. If you want a good deal, I'd search elsewhere!
Have a fun trip!!!:thumbsup2

Thank you, again!!
I just looked on ebags.com and found the Donner for $44.20. I think that is the one I am going to end up going with. It looks like it will suit my needs and will be comfortable at the same time. I just wish it came in light pink. I think I will go with the blue one. ;)

and it is so cute IRL! I am excited about using it next week. We'll have a small diaper bag that we'll leave in our stroller when we go on rides, but the Donner is a perfect size for the things we need to keep with us.

I really wanted to get the blue one too...but I ended up going with black for that "unisex" look...but I ended up carrying it most of the time anyway...seems I'm a teensy bit controlling...I need to be "in charge" of holding stuff...:lmao: It makes me feel better!:thumbsup2
I really hope you enjoy your bag. I thought it was pretty cool upon putting a bottle into the bottle holder, you couldn't even tell there was anything there! It's a really nice sleek bag!
Have fun!!!:goodvibes

I ordered the green Overland Donner bag on Memorial Day and I had it by that Thursday!! I bought it through shoebuy.com and got a discount for setting up an account and a Memorial Day promo. It is adorable (inside has a green and pink flower print) and seems like the perfect-sized bag to take on our trip to WDW next month!! :goodvibes

I just bought the Donner Overland bag in slate with plum lining. I was going to wait until my WDW vacation was a little closer but I think it will come in handy this summer on day trips. Now I am looking for water bottles with filters to put in the sides. I hear the water in Florida leaves a lot to be desired. :scared:

I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Donner bag this morning. I, too, was going to wait until closer to my trip, but I found a great deal. I had ordered a pair of Birkenstock Rio's last week through shoebuy.com (originally $114 and got them for $94 with free S&H and no tax!! :woohoo: ). This morning, I had an e-mail offering $10 off through bagsbuy.com. So, I did it. Plus, I got an extra discount for ordering again within 60 days. Here is how it breaks down:
Bag Price: $51.95
Promotional Discount: $10.00
Member Discount: $4.20
Free S&H
No Tax!!
TOTAL: $37.75!!! :woohoo:
I ordered the blue. I really wanted something in a light pink, but I didn't see anything I liked. I think this blue will be pretty. Now I can't wait to get it!!
Thank you, again!

I was looking at this bag last night. I am going to WDW for the first time next year. I have 4 kids so I know at some point I will be carrying all their stuff as well. It looks as though it has lots of room. I love the black one. I can't wait to hear more reveiws. Is it easy to carry?

Love my Donner bag ... it's about as "perfect" a bag as you can find for Disney. I keep a small umbrella on one side, a water bottle on the other. My kep to the world, DL, cell phone and such in the front "pocket". In the center pocket I can easily fit my D-Rebel.
My one "complaint" is that I wish it had a "quick-adjust buckle" like my Timbuk2 bag has so I could easily adjust the shoulder strap from "across the chest" to "shoulder" length.
My DD liked mine so much I got her one of her own.

I love my Overland Donner bag and many people ask me where I got it. I also ordered the plum for my daughter because she kept trying to steal mine. Holds her drink, snacks and camera for any trip or mini outings. Can't say enough good things about this bag except I LOVE IT.

Here's another vote for the Overland Donner bag - I bought the blue one for our trip to DL this past March. It was perfect for the trip - held everything we needed - the side pockets are perfect for water bottles and umbrellas !!
Since we've returned, it's become my everyday bag too. :goodvibes I can carry all my stuff, plus whatever else DH and DS hands me (mom=pack mule).:thumbsup2 I ordered it from shoebuy.com and with all the discounts, etc. it was a great deal at under $40 -- I highly recommend it !!!

I just ordered the Blue Donner from shoebuy.com. I used promotional code FATHERSDAY07 (this is a $10 off a $45+ order), I then signed up to be a member and saved an additional 10%, this brought my total to $37.75!! :cheer2: I will be using it for our first trip to DW in July. Thanks for all the reviews, I am sure this bag will work out great!!

Has anyone used this bag for a trip for only two people? DH and myself are going on a September 5-day getaway...but thought it may be too big. Any suggestions? Does REI have them in the store or do you have to purchase online?

I have received mine and was finally able to use it this past weekend. Personally, I think it would be perfect for two people. I'm using it for just me on my trip in August.
It held my camera ( a Nikon D50 SLR) and both of my lenses (a 28mm and a 300mm). The front pouch/pocket is also very nice and easy to access. The side pockets perfectly hold two 20 ounce bottles. Plus, they have mesh at the bottom in case anything leaks or "sweats". Also, the pocket on the back is perfect for any maps or brochures. I always get so tired of carrying those things!!
Here are a few pictures I took (sorry for the links - the picture link icon hasn't been working for me for some reason  ):

I forgot to add...
I do have one problem with this bag. The strap keeps riding up my neck. I'm not sure what to do to fix it. :confused3 Anyone else have this problem and a solution to it? Other than that, I really like this bag. But, this one small problem can be a big one after several hours in the heat and humidity!

I find it much more comfortable worn across my chest. With the strap out all the way, it hangs with the top of the bag just about at fingertip length. If it helps, I am 5'2" and "Pooh sized"! ;)

So I went to REI today and looked at the Donner bag. I didn't like how the outer part just folded up, too much work to put something away. I've been looking at the Juno and Jojo styles but can't decide which one to get. I guess I could always order one and exchange it for the other if I don't like it. Does anyone have experience with either of these? Also, which color did you get? I like neutral colors, but don't know if I would get sick of a plain jane color. Yet the blue, pink and green ones seem to be very bright!! AAAAgghh!!!!

I used my OE Donner this past weekend for a short vacation, and I felt the same way. It can get heavy quickly = uncomfortable. So, my question is - have you carried the Diaper Dude yet? For any length of time? I will probably sell my OE Donner on ebay, and I don't want to have to go through this again! I was also looking at the Fleurville DJ because it has pockets on the strap (for cell phone and such). (DD2 is out of diapers, so I technically don't need it as a diaper bag.) Thanks!

I bought mine through bagsbuy.com. First, I bought my Birkenstocks through shoebuy.com. I received an e-mail from them for bagsbuy.com. They are a joint company I believe. Since I was buying the bag within 60 days of buying my Birks, I received 10% off. Plus, I got $10 off for joining bagsbuy.com. I used the Overland Equipment Placer for my valuables, while we had a diaper bag hanging on the stroller. The Donner can carry a lot, but with a stroller and a diaper bag, it might be redundant (unless you carry a lot of camera equipment - something bulky and valuable). I loved the Placer - small camera, phone, sunglasses, money, tickets, cc, lip stuff, retractable Sharpie for autographs, hand gel, and folded park maps. If you find the Donner too big, check out the Placer. They have a similar design (love the front flap).

I was just looking at the Placer...it looks like a smaller slightly more comfortable size for me. DH and I have not kids so I really only need to carry a few essentials. I had picked up a small Bagallini bag a couple of months ago thinking it would be nice. But, the nylon material really looks cheap and I am not real thrilled with it. So, going to try and find something with more of a microfiber feel to it. Is that what these OE bags are made out of?

No, they're not micro-fiber. They have more of a canvas feel to them.

I think they will hold up good with water. Just incase, I purchased this for my cell phone: http://www.extremepda.com/AQUAPACCING8125.html
I also have one for my camera as well. I basically purchased this for home use when we visit the community pool. My daughter always stands near me when she's dripping wet and the last thing I want is for my phone to get damaged.

Honestly, I'm not sure how water resistant they are. However, I'm not taking any chances with my camera (Nikon D50) and lenses, so I am going to throw in a large Ziploc to put all valuables in. They're easy to pack and weigh nothing. Plus, I already have them in the house!! ;)

Can the Donner bag be carried like the Baggalini Messanger? Or is it only a shoulder bag.

The Donner has a fairly long strap. It can be carried on your shoulder or across your chest. Personally, I find it more comfortable across my chest.
HTH!! :flower3:

Thanks for the info, all. Picked up a donner at REI on clearance last week. It must've been fate - the only color they had was the lime green!

I had been reading this thread and decided I wanted the Overland Donner bag but thought it was pricey. Well, today on Shoebuy.com there was a code for 20% off and when you register you get another 10% off. So, for 57.80 I got the Overland Donner in Sand and a pair kids crocs!:cool1: Not bad if you ask me. It was almost like getting the crocs for free considering on some websites the Overland Donner was listed for $57!:woohoo:

IMHO I really like the Baggallini. I think it is cute, comfortable and colourful. I have seen them around stores, and they seem big enough to fit everything but not so big that you feel you are lugging things around. They do not hurt your shoulder, although they do tend to fall right in between the breasts (in a womans case:rotfl:). Other than that I think they are perfect for Disney!
HIH!

MickeyNikki, which Baggalini are you referring to. There a lot of different versions and the one I got (a very small one) ended up not being quite so nice. BUT, it was a different material than a lot of the others. I'll try to find the one that I got and post a link.

Here is the Baggallini that I got. I think the only problem I have with it is that it is the crinkle nylon. But, I just found on the ebags site that they have this in microfiber too. Not sure where my head was when I placed my order. I should have gone with the microfiber one.

I ordered the Donner last week from REI. We don't have a store in the area. The only color they had was lime green :thumbsup2
It is supposed to be here tomorrow. I can't wait to try it out. I am thinking about getting the Placer too. I will use that one for smaller outings, usually when I just need to carry phone, camera, and $. REI online has it right now for around $25, plus they sent me a 15% off coupon.
The recommendations on the DIS has always been right on for me, so I am hoping I will love my donner as much as everyone else.

If anyone is looking for the Pacer bag, I see that REI has them on sale for $25.
