OK folks...I recently ceased speaking with a very wonderful person, and in my anguish....I kinda sorta well maybe..uhm...accepted a month-long work transfer to a big Bush-Family-Owned conservative red state in the middle of no where. :scared1:
But since I'm in town, I was wondering....any of you DISers from Texas? Looks like I'll be staying in Borger (north of Amarillo) for a bit while I shed some tears, have some Ben and Jerry's and watch The Way We Were repeatedly. popcorn::

I live in NYC now, but lived in Austin for three years. Austin is great - if you end up spending some time in Texas, definitely hop a cheap Southwest flight to Austin. Its an amazing town.

Whooooooooooaaaaa partner, Bush may own a ranch in Texas but that sure as hell don't make him a Texan. I sure don't claim him as one of ours. Texas has a lot of great things to do, only problem is if your going to be North of Amarillo your closer to Kansas than you are to many of the best parts of Texas. I will second the Austin recommendation as its the bluest place in Texas. Wander down 6th Street, listen to some great music, and have some good old Tex Mex or Bar b que. If you like beer I suggest Shiner Bock and don't let anyone talk you into Lone Star because even though I'm a Texan, I'll tell you up front it aint that great. San Antonio is fun but a little touristy. There is the Alamo, Fiesta Texas (a Six Flags amusement park), the Riverwalk, Seaworld, and a lot of Texas history. Dallas is not bad and there are a lot of great resturants and bars there as well as some really great shopping. Be open minded and have fun, we Texan's are actually a pretty friendly group once you get to know us.

Yup -- just cause your cat had kittens in the oven, you still wouldn't call'em biscuits. :rotfl:
