FL Resident discount questions

My beloved aunt, who lives in FL, has graciously offered to help purchase whatever we need in order to get discounts at WDW. Of course, we would pay, but everything would go through her. However, she wanted me to gather the details on how this would work. She doesn't really want to actually join us but offered to help with whatever she can. So, my questions are:

What are the benefits of a FL resident discount?
Does she have to stay with us on site?
Do the reservations have to be in her name?

Yes, the reservations must be in her name. In addition, the person who has the discount applied to the reservation must be present to provide proof of residency at check-in. You might need to be careful as to how many people are showing in the room. Say there's 2 adults and 2 children, you'd need to add your aunt. That's a $25 a night additional charge for a 3rd adult. No one's forcing her to stay, but if you are trying to avoid some difficult questions that could result in having to pay full rack-rate at the last minute, those are my thoughts.

You could always buy an AP for one person as an alteranative. Apply the savings for the 3rd adult for however many nights to it. Maybe that would work just as well.

The reservations would have to be in her name. They will check her ID (if she isn't there then that would be a problem). She will need to be there in order to get the discount. Benefits of a FL resident discount is just that...a discount. As already mentioned you might want to think about purchasing an AP as the discounts are pretty much the same for AP holders and FL residents. There are additional benefits/perks to being an AP holder though. FL residents just get room discounts and can join the DDE without being an AP holder. You can check the official WDW website for details on the AP benefits.

I may be missing something, but every time I call to check on the FL Resident rates, they are much higher than what I can purchase straight from Expedia..... =(

Yep, sorry no can do unless she will be checking in the resort with you - Disney is really strict about FL Res discounts. ;)

She can't even buy you FL Res discount park tickets to use as you would have to take any ticket vouchers that she would purchase to guest services before the first use and show FL ID to get the actual tickets to get in the gate with. If you didn't have FL ID you'd have to pay the difference in ticket costs right there to get the correct tickets....and that could be 'spensive! :goodvibes

My mom is a Florida resident and when she booked a trip for her, my brother and sister-in-law the CM needed ID's for EACH PERSON on the ressie and as soon as my brother and his wife showed NJ ID's, my mom had to pay the difference in rates for them because they were not FL residents.

Did they have a FL resident discount package? Including tickets? If so, then yes, they would all have to be FL residents.

If it is a room only discount, then only one person in the room must be a FL resident. And as everyone else has said, that person will have to be present at check in and will be asked to show her ID.
