Yes! Well, at least the Flying Dutchmen cookie boat (big boat shaped cookie, ice cream, carmel and chocolate sauces) is! My bf and I shared one recently!

As for just doing dessert there I don't see why not. Get a reservation for whatever tim eyou want and simply order what you want. I don't know of any minimum per table or rules about eating a full meal. Dessert and coffee is an awesome way to enjoy a restaurant that is out of your budget, but worthy of enjoying its atmosphere.

Disneyfreakz, I'm so glad you asked that question, because I've been wondering the same thing! I'll be at DL by myself in August, and while I wanted to revisit the cool atmosphere in BB, I did NOT wish to blow my entire meal budget there. But dessert--heck, I can do that!:thumbsup2

Yes, I have never eaten there but my friends have and they said the food sucked for the price. That each plate was minimum $27.99 and the "better plates" were $35.99+. With tax and tip, you are looking at $40/pp for average food. I rather save the money and go to a nice steak house and then use the leftover money for desert at Blue Bayou.

The way I figure it is if you share a dessert you and a friend / spouse / child can enjoy the atmosphere and dessert for only $5/ea.

NOTE** I would probably leave a little larger tip than normal if the waiter/waitress was nice and didn't give me a hard time. Maybe something like a $5 tip even if I shared the dessert with my friend and the total bill was $10. Still $15 to me would be worth it alone for the nice atmosphere. :)

Last time we were there we got the pastry covered apple and it was definitely big enough for two. We always eat lunch and never find it to be that expensive, but I will say, they don't let two people eat one meal. I'm a vegetarian so I was just going to eat my husband's sides and they said that you have to order two meals. I don't know if the waitress was right or what, but that seems ridiculuos. So I doubt they would be happy if someone only got desert and no meal, but that doesn't mean you couldn't do it.

Full service restaurants at DL recently added a split plate charge. So you could have ordered one meal but would have been charged $4 to split the plate. It sounds like you had a server that either didn't know this rule existed or didn't want you to know so that they could hike your bill and therefore their tip. Either way its inexcusable. And too bad they did this, portions are large at Disneyland and in some cases (I am thinking of the Monte Cristo in particular) the food so rich you don't want to eat it alone!

That is horrible. I hope you didn't feel obligated to tip this person! To suggest you aren't allowed to share. My Dh and I share food all the time, including at the BB. We don't need all the extra calories of two full meals, and my budget sure as heck doesn't need the additional cost. Shame on that server. The $4 split plate fee is okakey with me, but I don't calculate it into the tipping. It takes no extra work on their part to bring an extra plate. I'm done...there is another thread for this little rant. ;)

Okay, so wait...are you saying that they might get snippy with me if I just order a dessert? Because I want to be in the BB for the atmosphere, and if someone's giving me the deep freeze treatment over what I do or do not order, that's pretty much going to kill any atmosphere enjoyment, or at least it will for me.::yes:: Anybody else have thoughts on this?popcorn::

We are considering going there, but it's the price that's holding me back as well. For the three of us it's probably going to easily run over $100. I just hope the food is really good for that, I've heard some mixed reviews!

I wouldn't mind just booking for desert either. Get the atmosphere, and a yummy desert without taking a HUGE chunk of our food money allotment! But I think I'd feel funny doing it. I bet they would be pretty surprised and upset about not getting a big tip (face it, even if we ordered 3 of those boats they wouldn't get as big a tip as if we spend $130 on a meal!). I'm tempted though, as we really just want the atmosphere too!

I'm the one who first replied to this thread, and let me add now, when we ordered dessert there we went purely for the dessert.

I did feel kind of funny just ordering dessert, but I just did tell the waiter up front. I just told him (I think after he asked us if we were ready, or the specials or something) that we'd actually just like to order dessert. He barely blinked, and was still very polite. He was very timely and very polite, even brought us out a birthday candle lit in ice water (heehee) cuz it was one of our party's bday's. And a card from Mickey! :) (And this was for a 20 year old boy, too!)

Anywho, I'd hope you wouldn't get a bad response, as we didn't. As long as you didn't stay 2 hours for your one dessert, lol!

DD is pirates mad, and I'm sure would love the atmosphere of the restaurant, but I can't see her eating anything off the menu, apart from the desserts, especially the Flying Dutchman! :)

Wow! I returned to the DIS this morning to see if anyone has replied to my question (I was the originator of this thread), and imagine my surprise to see how it's sparked this conversation! Thanks to those of you who replied.

Now, let me add my two cents' worth to the other aspect of this conversation--the "dessert only" controversy. When I made the PS at Blue Bayou, I did tell the CM that I planned on having only dessert there, and he didn't say anything negative in response. Instead, he merely replied, "Okay. What time would you like?" I made the PS for the absolute last seating of the night (9:50 p.m.) for two reasons: 1.) I figured that if we tried to eat such large desserts right after dinner, we'd end up ill. 2.) I assumed that most people don't prefer to eat dinner so late, so taking up a table for dessert only at such a late hour would probably not be thought inconsiderate--or, at least, not AS inconsiderate as occupying a table at a prime dining hour, such as 7:30. While I don't see having dessert only as being inconsiderate to the restaurant (after all, my view is that they're making money and making guests happy--and isn't that the point of Disney to begin with?), I suppose it's possible that the restaurant workers could see it that way. Hence, the late reservations.

Therefore, if you want to try the "dessert only" approach to BB, then perhaps, like me, doing so at a late hour will make you feel a bit more relaxed about doing that? I don't know...just an idea.

A 'dessert only' seating should not upset any waiter or waitress. While they would get less of a tip since the total cost would be less the table would empty faster letting more customers be seated, resulting in more tips and likely MORE money for them then just having one dinner table. Plus the work the waiter/waitress has to do is considerably less for a dessert-only table.

I would make the reservation without any qualms at all and enjoy it. If you get a snippy server it likely has nothing to do with what you ordered. He/she is probably just having a bad day.

After I read the last post yesterday, I had pretty much decided not to do the dessert thingie (and feeling pretty low about it) because of the possible negative reaction. After reading today's posts, I'm changing my mind again , and am most definitely going to do the dessert thingie at BB--and I'm back to being excited!!! (oh, I just love the roller coaster that is my life!:flower3: )

Am I the only one who would feel a little weird about just ordering dessert? I am not saying I disagree with it, I would just be a little uncomfortable, especially if there were people outside waiting for tables who wanted a full meal.

My DBF and I have ate just dessert at the BB. We usually eat a late lunch there (can't miss my favorite Monte Cristo), and then go back in the evening or the following evening to enjoy dessert. We usually go around 8:30 or 9:00 without reservations and walk right in, but we do tell the hostess as well as our server up front that we are just there for dessert. Never had any problems with this!

As far as splitting meals goes, my mom and I always split the monte cristo because it is just too large for our appetites. I don't mind paying a little extra to split because it is still less expensive than ordering two meals! DBF and I should have split dessert the first time we went because it was so large. We were stuffed!!!

Hummm, now that I do not know. It has been a few years since we have done just dessert at BB, and each time we did not split. I would like to know this as well.

CinderMelly~ I could probably give it a good go all by myself if I hadn't ordered the jambalaya & ate a good portion of that first (plus the gumbo). lol Dh had had the Monte Cristo & that being as rich as it is, I am sure that he ate less of the dessert than normal as well. It is a good sized portion though. Well worth trying!!!!

We were there last week & I just looked at our bill. There was no extra charge for splitting the dessert. Our waiter brought us out 4 spoons & placed the plate where we could all reach it (there was a lamp in the middle of the table).
