I ended up putting a few up from the other night, but it will be another couple of weeks (thankfully) from that day until I'm back over there. :) I may be there once a month after that.

Great detective work, and thanks for sharing. That seems like a lot of effort for a new valet parking lot! :lmao:

Not too much detective work! :) I was at the Contemporary working on walk photos and went to the 4th floor and outside - and up a flight or two of stairs as well.
I haven't seen anything about valet parking. Perhaps a valet parking garage? :)

Those footings they're "drilling out" for? Well, the drill looks just about as long as the one they'd need to drill the footings described in the plans for "The C Shaped" whatever it is.

Well duh, that's why they dug the footer holes so deep...they pack all that asbestos in the hole and then pour concrete over it.

my brother's father in law - does the bids on steel for his company.
well Disney has send in a request for one.
but the plans he has only mention Contemporary Suites - no mention of DVC at all.:confused3  :scared1:
let's all hope this is just Disney trying to kept it a secret. and it will DVC instead of CR suites - but hey willing to share. Anything to get CR villa.:rolleyes1

so even if they start today (and they can't if they are just sending out request for bids on steel) it will take 2 years.

This is my stance on it, at this time the ground and building that is being constructed belong to Disney Resort Operations, hence the Contemporary Suites name that keeps popping up.
Because at this time DVC can't announce another location due to AKV and the finish of SSR. Also I think Disney resorts and DVC have not come to a complete agreement over the situation, if they had it would have come before AKV.
I think eventually you will see DVC there but at this time, the property still belongs to resorts.

The explanation given was sales were more successful with multiple properties available, so there will be at least two more DVC choices coming on line relatively soon. I don't know how strong my source is, but everything thus far has been "right on". I have heard some of the same info as given to a certain frog-type: CRV model rooms were stumbled upon, as were a second set of partially finished ones for a second location. (Also, AKV concierge rooms will be opening ahead of schedule (Dec 1), bookings to start on a certain date in June.) My source said CRV announcement within 5-8 months. Take it for what it is worth - it's obviously nothing more than a rumor at this point, but I'm doing some serious "planning" just in case....

I can certainly see that it could take 2 years to build - sometimes Disney takes a year or two just on rehabs, let alone a whole new building with everything that entails. I would be surprised if Disney waited so long to announce it - I mean, it's already started!
I understand about the frog now. :) I have a friend who gets inside info too, so it's interesting to occasionally hear things before they happen. He's been saying for months that the Contemporary is slated for DVC - but occasionally even when Disney plans something, that changes (like the Haunted Mansion Holiday that was planned to come to WDW, and then the plans changed).

With SSR closing in on being sold out, the other interesting tidbit I got from Tony, was DVC sales close at a better rate when they have 2 resorts to offer customers.

I dont buy the idea that it is simply "family suites." It would be a bad financial decision on Disney's behalf not to build DVC at Contemporary. Not only that, but if the drawings circulating the net are true, this is going to be an extremely expensive expansion.
SSR is about 85% sold out. As soon as that is sold out and AKV is 50% sold, I think that is when Disney will finally let out the truth. Having both AKV and CRV selling is going to draw in a ton of cash for Disney....and they know it.

Gee I hope you are right!!!
so why is all the stuff being send to construction companies saying only Contemporary suites?
AKV said AKV - they got asked for bids on that steel too.
I really want DVC to happen and have for years!
but if the Contemporary suites are what is happening - I don't think DVC will get it. suites are not DVC - no full kitchens.
I don't see these things are family suites - not like All stars - I see these things are real suites to appeal to the rich.
of course I am hopping for something like BW - we don't get the whole thing - but we do get some of it.

According to these papers Disney filed with the South Florida Water Management, it does show "DVC @ Contemporary" specifically on the permit as well as the many diagrams that accompany it.
So either they are just going under the name of "suites" on future documents or they changed their mind.

It states "Contemporary Suites" all over it....
But if you scroll down to page 11... It states, "Proposed DVC Resort Contemporary Hotel." Then on the next page it again states "This project is a proposed Disney Vacation Club Resort that will be built at the Contemporary Hotel in Walt Disney World, Florida."
It also states a 16-story tower.

it's not coming:confused: waaaaaaaaa:sad1: ; then why else would they shut down the HM 3 months during peak summer dates?
back to CRV:wizard: ; as for Contemporary Resort Suites - do you not consider the current studio/1 BR DVC units similiar to suite accommodations? Perhaps they will not offer the typical larger units or will have several connecting smaller units instead to suit those who want more space. I think the building will offer the same suite accommodations (1 BRs to sleep 5 or 6) for both resort guests & a % allocated to DVC.

I don't know the particulars and questioning "why" will probably get me a warning at a minimum, so as I'm not part of the issue I'll neither question nor comment on the ban itself. All I can say is "yes, he's been gone for a while now" and "yes, the ban is permanent". He does post on other boards should you enjoy his posts.

If you look at the bottom of the WP docs (WordPerfect/Word/?) included, it shows the saved doc file info, which includes the phrase "DVC_at_The_Contemporary_Resort" at the bottom of each page.
Page 48 uses both "DVC@The Contemporary" and "Disney's Contemporary Resorts" in the same doc - the former is the heading, and the latter starts the first sentence. I don't believe there has been a change in plans at all - I think both expressions refer to the same project - a DVC resort (JMO, FWIW).

the 1 and 2 bedroom are similiar to suites. suites have more stuff. but no kitchen in suites - only a kitchennett. now some 2-bedroom do have a kitchen (I think)

Well Disney hasn't officially flat out denied that it is a DVC. Some CMs have claimed it isn't and others have claimed it is. But Disney has not officially announced it either way. You would think that if it is simply "suites" that Disney would have officially announced it long ago. I mean why wait and leave speculation out there that would only slow down sales at AKV?
This is going to be a huge building. 16 floors. If the whole thing is suites going for $600+ a night... they are never going to keep that hotel filled. And Disney does not like occupancy below 90%. What might happen here though is the building may contain both. It may be a DVC but also have some MK suites that Disney has been wanting. The building will be more than big enough to do that. And Disney won't have to keep those suites booked to keep the hotel profitable.

That is actually what I've been thinking - suites and DVC. They could definitely use the extra suites for conventioneers, and the DVC would sell out pretty quickly in that location.

thank you so much, Jerry.... I really, really want this to be a CRV but after talking to my DB I was giving up hope.
Now maybe there is a chance again. Really, really wish Disney would tell us what this is going to be. Of course, there is the other possiblity that Disney hasn't decided yet.
but to do a kitchen don't you need to know fairly quickly to put in the correct plumbing?

Considering that the foundation is being started, you'd think they'd have a plan by now. :)
I really think they are putting in at least some DVC there. Supposedly DVC is planned for every deluxe resort, maybe moderates as well at some point. So this is Disney's opportunity to do that with the Contemporary. DVC is a big money-maker for them.

Are you talking about Disney suites, or suites in general? There are hotels that include a kitchen as part of a suite - we just stayed in a Best Western suite with a kitchen. We have also stayed in Hawthorn, Marriott TownPlace and Summerfield Suites that had kitchens. We rarely if ever had a 2 BR, but each definitely had a full kitchen. I don't think "suite" and "full kitchen" are mutually exclusive any longer (if it ever was).

They aren't. Most suites do not include full kitchens (just the small kitchenettes). I think the extended stay rooms are more likely to have the fully equipped kitchens. Or anything that is called a villa.

yea but the disney suites I have seem - don't have a kitchen in the 1-bedroom.
the 2-bedroom there is kinda one - but the DVC resorts generally have a better one.
disney wants you to eat in its restuarants....not in your room - or if you do then room service.
and no suite at Disney has a washer/dryer in the room.

The only other places with washer/dryers that I remember were at the DI (I recall some of the units having them, though not the bungalows). Suites at Disney tend not to have much, though often (always?) they include concierge - so you don't have to worry as much about food and cooking.

In the past it seems Disney fearlessly announced resort projects way in advance, apparently without fear of having to cancel them even though some never materialized.
Why is this so secretive? Does it have to do with timeshare laws? I.e. does the lack of an announcement implicate plans for DVC? Has there ever been such secrecy with any of the non-DVC Disney resorts?
