Yes you can.

Also, you can make calls to the UK if you use a International Calling Card. It's great being able to keep intouch while you are on the go.

We have used TracFones for a good few year.

can you order these to be delivered to the UK and have the phone number to give to people before we arrive in the US? We don't go until Dec but will need to give phone no's to our wedding planner etc. preferably before we arrive.

Unfortunately they don't have a number allocated until you first register them and to do this they have to be in a signal area.

The same applies if you let the number expire, when you next put air time on them they'll get given a new number.

How economical is the International Calling Card?

Also, when you get back to the UK can you put a different SIM card in them?

No. The wireless band they work on is not compatable with our UK/European frequencies.

As economical as you make it ;) Depending on the size of the card bought and how often you use it, you can make it last 2 weeks no problems.
Also depends on how much airtime you purchase for the TracFone. As to make and recieve calls also sending and recieving text messages costs you on the TracFone.

Like OB1 says, you cannot put a UK sim card in the phones.

More informtation on TracFone can be found Here (http://www.tracfone.com/index.jsp)

OK, I get it. If I don't use the phone at all it won't cost me a penny. However, on the assumption I would make a 5 minute call to England how much would this cost me and how would it compare, for example, to an international phone card?

If you buy a tri or quad band phone it will work OK in the UK.

The Motorola W370 from the previous link is suitable and cost $49.99, there are probably more.

You will need to get the phone unlocked for a different sim to work but it can be done.
