We will also be first time cruisers on sept 22 to the eastern carribean! What kind of styles do they do on board? Can the braid your whole head?

The only hair-styling on board is through the Vista Spa. It is a regular hair salon.

If you want braids you can get them on your island stops, including Castaway Cay. My daughter has had her hair braided twice in Nassau. If you choose to have your hair done in Nassau make sure you go to the braiding pavillion (you can't miss it!) as they have running water there and the conditions are a bit more sanitary.

If you are going on the 7-day cruise you will be able to get your braids in St. Maarten and possibly also in St. Thomas. I am guessing that you would be able to find braiders at Grand Cayman if you are going on the Western itinerary.

If you choose to get your braids on Castaway Cay make sure you are one of the first people off the boat and go straight to the braiders as long lines form quickly.

My daughter is planning on getting braids in St. Maarten on our Nov. 30th cruise. They really do look great!

Ok, this may seem like a silly question, but I've seen posts where people talk about getting braids and then leaving them in for weeks or even months after they return from their cruise. My question is: how do you wash your hair? Or do you just not and the braids pretty much take care of themselves? Wouldn't they get dirty/oily regardless of them being in braids?

Trying to figure this one out :)

My daughter left her braids in for about two months each time. During those two months she would shower as she normally did, applying shampoo both to the braided sections and to the loose sections (she had the headband of braids). The hair never seemed dirty or oily and when we finally removed the braids there was very little damage. Once the braids were out she showered and used both shampoo and conditioner and was back to normal.
