There are some great people on here that have been going to WDW since it opened. I would love to see some older WDW resort pics - older room decor, restaurants/stores/lobbies the way they were. Does anyone have any to share? Pics from 70's 80's and 90's all welcome!
Thanks!!!

OK, I'll kick this off. Here is a pic of the old Tree House Villas. They were 3 bedroom villas; two on the main floor and one at the base of the tree house. It was taken in 1981 and I scanned it from a slide (hence the poor quality). Even though it is not the greatest picture of the villas it still brings back great memories.

Love the picture of the Poly pool. We were at the Poly in 1976 and remembered the pool slide (we don't have any pics), so, this picture really brings back my memory. Thanks!
Also, we went to River Country the same trip (my only trip as a kid). I should check through my dad's slides one of these days!

They are older than me too. They are from my parent's trip in 1972 where they stayed in one of the Garden Wings. I showed up 9 months later. :rotfl: Just a little Disney souvenier.

Our first trip to Disney was June of '72 and when we checked into the Poly you pulled into a diagonal space and a young lady came to our car and checked us in curbside. We all loved her and kept in touch with her for a number of years.

I had forgotten all about her! Those days were wonderful - so much more magic. I loved the name then: Polynesian Village. And I liked the old Longhouse names- still getting used to the new ones.
We had many wonderful summer and long weekend winter vacations there from the time my kids were little - we celebrated many birthdays, graduations, Confirmation and First Communion trips (any excuse to go to WDW!).;)
I have some photos of the Poly and CR from the early 80's (took very few photos on earlier trips), but no scanner.
Loved the Poly pool photo and CR room photo - cannot remmeber the color on our first stay, but remember when it was refurbished in the late 80's and our room colors were peach and soft green.
Great thread!!:)

I have one more. It's just a bathroom in the GF in 1990. I couldn't believe that we were actually spending $200 a night on a hotel room. LOL. Are the rooms still decorated in pinks? I wouldn't know. I can't afford it now. ;)

On the Sassagoula (?) River in between POFQ, SSR and LBV golf course I believe. When we stayed at the old Disney Institute our bus would stop there also.

When I check in in July I intend to say I'm staying at the Polynesian Village. Village just resonates as a destination more than resort but I suppose this is why I am not head of marketing at Disney. Anyway, I also am a "class of '72" veteran and I have pics of me going down the old slide in my purple and pink swimsuit. Unfortunately I lack the technology to upload it.
Have also stayed in the Contemporary in the early 80s and the old Vacation Villas.
This is a lovely thread.

Yes, it is. First it was changed to the Disney Inn, then it changed to Shades of Green.
We went in 1973 when I was 3. I know my mom has pictures, and I am DYING to go dig through them. The trip is a surprise for my dd though. I am surprising her with a Disney package on her bday at the end of June, so I don't want to arouse any suspision before then.

MaryD73,
The picture in question is from Lake Buena Vista Village. It's now Downtown Disney. The big steamboat in the background was a restaurant named the Lillie Belle, named after Walt's wife. Lake Buena Vista Village opened in 1975. I was 6 years old then and remember my Mom loved it. I didn't care for it because it only had one little upscale, overpriced toy store. A lot has changed since then.

Yes that is the current location of Downtown Disney, and the steamboat is now Fulton's. They used to have a character breakfast there every morning. If I am not mistaken, it was pre-plated. That is also "almost" the location of the original Chef Mickey's. I used to love it when it was over there...:(

The "boat" was named the Empress Lilly and actually had several restaurants and a lounge. It isn't really a boat though it is a building. I think your picture of the Southern Seas(the paddle wheel) looks like it was taken from the CR, I think they had the yellow chairs, I don't recall the FW dock having chairs like that. If you look further back in the thread you will see me and my little brother in the water off FW too, so I understand the whole "geeky" thing with the mask, did you ever try to catch the little fish swiming with us.

I was in college in nearby Winter Park, Florida in 1977 and I remember going to a lounge at Lake Buena Vista and seeing Dizzy Gillespie perform! It was very upscale (dark wood but everything was in those days) adult. Wish they had entertainment of that caliber now.

I remember the Bv Villiage, too. I think we rended paddleboats and the old mouse racers there, too. I remember doing stuff with my Dad there while my Mom shopped. I don't really remember the stores there, but I remember the layout of the villiage. It seemed much calmer and quieter than DTD. Although I guess all of WDW was probably less vrowded then. I noticed that in a PP's photo of MK...there was almost no one there!

I remember the World Cruise pictured, and they still have the docking and loading means for that ship. Does anyone know where it ended up?

Yes, that is a road behind 20,000 Leagues. It goes from backstage MK to the Monorail "garage" (it's the building with the square openings on the second floor) and other cast and warehouse areas. The bridge goes over the WDW Railroad track.

I deffinately used my last day on one of those tickets two years ago :).
I also liked seeing pictures of that slide at LBV Village (now DTD), they had one of those fountains that shoot up water from the sidewalk for the kids to play in there in the late 80s/early 90s and my brother and I thought it was the best thing ever. That was the week before our "Disney Cruise" on the Big Red Boat.

Yes! Anyone remember the AP's where they took a real color photo, cut it out, and laminated it to the AP? It used to take forever to get those, kind of like going to the DMV. I have a whole collection.

The Fairway Villas were great for us because they slept 7 or 8 people. There was the master and 2nd bedroom upstairs. The 2nd bedroom was a loft type that you could look down into the living room. The living room had a murphy bed and the sofa also folded out. There was a full kitchen. There were peacocks walking around. Truly a beautiful, peaceful setting.

We stayed in one in 97 that was $300 a night. We had two bedrooms, two and a half baths, kitchen, patio (with ducks) and living room/dining room. I thought it was great. We had a 50% off castmember rate and my mom went with us and split the $150.
The next summer we paid the exact same amount for a BWV studio. Imagine our surprise when we walked in and saw how small it was.

Batktty, thank you for the photos! I wanted to compliment your Mom! You guys are all classicly attired but the rest of those patrons are on the "DON'T" list. LoL.
Haha! Yes, it seems that, thankfully, my mom was aware of how bad most of the 80s fashions actually were! I think I may have been too ashamed to post the picture if any of us were wearing anything too goofy.

Lol, I know what you mean. When I saw that photo in the album, I thought it was some cheesy hotel we stayed in on the drive down to disney, but when I pulled it out and looked at the back, it said "Polynesian Resort" on it! :>I have a few other pictures from the 80s that have the same wallpaper and drapes, but a different headboard. My first stay at the Contempoary was in the Spring of 1979. We had been to WDW once before and stayed at a HOJO's somewhere in Orlando. I really wanted to stay at the Contemporary so my mother called WDW on her own, we had dealt with Liberty travel on the first trip, and she was able to get us a room in the garden wing two years and two months out for $69 per night! Everything else was all booked up, so we happily waited. Now you could drive into WDW and get a room pretty much at any hotel.

That was a toy called stretch monster. You stretch and pull his legs, arms body and it would go back to its original shape. Until he got a hole in him and his hazardous gooey guts would leak out and you'd have to throw him out before you got any of it on you. Ah the good old days.

These photos were taken exactly 30 years ago tomorrow (1977-yikes!). From my mom's recollection, we stayed on the 9th floor with an MK view and Phyllis Diller was performing at the top of the hotel. In 1979 when I was 16 my cousin and I took the boat from the campground to Poly to use the pool (it was allowed back then:goodvibes ) and I too remember the cave slide. We thought it was so great. Also have some Poly pic's from our honeymoon in 1985. We stayed in Samoa which isn't Samoa anymore - not sure what it's called now.

That was the first thing my parent did when we enter the MK. We all got hats of our choice and had your names embroided on them.

Here are some pics of the Mary Blair art prints from the Contemp rooms...
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART1.jpg
There were two sizes of prints, this was one of the small ones with image measuring approx 17 x 20".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART5.jpg
This one was wifes very favorite! Also 17 x 20".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART2.jpg
"Burro going Right..." was one of the larger ones- approx 20 x 30". With the double framing the finished piece is about 26 x 36".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART3.jpg
"Burro going Left..." was a companion piece in many rooms with the above, and also one of the big ones.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART6.jpg
This is also one of the big ones, and it's the only picture I have of it. Fashion historians take note- this pic was taken in 1975! There were also larger prints in the common areas throughout the resort. No pics though... and I've never seen one offered for sale.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART4.jpg
This is the "World" map that hung in every guest room both in the Poly and the Contemp. It measured approx 4 x 5 feet, and appears to be vinyl bonded onto masonite. During the rehab of the Contemp (about 1985 and/or 1986), the maps were ripped off the walls and thrown into trash piles. Many were destroyed or ruined, and they were sold off as scrap masonite for $5.00 each!
Years ago I saw one on eBay for $10,000 but it didn't get a bid. I wonder if it would today?
Notice the locations of the Venetian, Asian and Persian Hotels that were never built.

Actually, the building in the center of the photo is Captain Jacks, CJ's is pretty much unchanged since the Village opened in 1975. Chef Mickey's, (originally the Village Restaurant) would be off to the right out of the picture. The building to the right is the so-called Marina Building, which has the following (probably incomplete ) history:
Toys Fantastique 1975 - 1988
Conched Out 1988 - 1993
Discover 1993 - 1996
Summer Sands 1996 - 8/00
Childrens Fashions 1975 - ?
Its A Small World After All ? - 1988
Board Stiff 1988 - 1992
The City 1992 - 1996
Authentic AllStar 1996 - 97
Pooh Corner 11/97 - 1/06
World of Disney Kids 2/06 -
Carolyns Couture 1975 - ?
Country Address 1975 - 1985
Resort Wear Unlimited 1985 - ?/99
Disney At Home ?/99 - 1/05
Goofy’s Candy Co. 4/05 -
Great Southern Craft/Crafty Corner 1996 - 97
Garden Center 12/99 - 1/05

That play "house" was located next to what is now Ghiradelli's, formerly Goofy’s Grill 1992 - 1997. formerly Lakeside Terrace 1988 - 1992, formerly Lite Bite 1975 - 1988.
Here's another play area that was next to the Captain's Tower, now Disney Pin Traders. Known over the years as the Tot Yard, Village Kids Place and Sand Street Station.
This photo is from 1986, and was taken after 11PM, which was the time that the Disney provided buckets, shovels and other sand toys were put away for the night.
This is where the train is now located.

Here are some pics of the Mary Blair art prints from the Contemp rooms...
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART1.jpg
There were two sizes of prints, this was one of the small ones with image measuring approx 17 x 20".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART5.jpg
This one was wifes very favorite! Also 17 x 20".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART2.jpg
"Burro going Right..." was one of the larger ones- approx 20 x 30". With the double framing the finished piece is about 26 x 36".
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART3.jpg
"Burro going Left..." was a companion piece in many rooms with the above, and also one of the big ones.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART6.jpg
This is also one of the big ones, and it's the only picture I have of it. Fashion historians take note- this pic was taken in 1975! There were also larger prints in the common areas throughout the resort. No pics though... and I've never seen one offered for sale.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/ART4.jpg
This is the "World" map that hung in every guest room both in the Poly and the Contemp. It measured approx 4 x 5 feet, and appears to be vinyl bonded onto masonite. During the rehab of the Contemp (about 1976 and/or 1977), the maps were ripped off the walls and thrown into trash piles. Many were destroyed or ruined, and they were sold off as scrap masonite for $5.00 each!
Years ago I saw one on eBay for $10,000 but it didn't get a bid. I wonder if it would today?

I love that artwork, especially the map. It's just too cool that it has the hotels that were never built on there. I love the idea of a Ventian hotel!
Call me crazy too, but I'm just loving that wall paper too! Normally I hate wallpaper of any kind, but loving that.

I really need to head over to my parents house one of these days and scan some of our old pictures. I should have a bunch from the Poly if I can find them.
Does anyone else who used to stay at the Disney resorts in the 70's early 80's remember the channel that used to run continuously showing what to do at Disney? I remember the song they used to sing distinctly and the peppy cast member who would start the show off by saying "Hi I'm Susan!" My brother was 6 on our first trip to Disney and watched that channel ad nauseum! I think they finally changed the channel when Epcot opened up, as summer 82 was the last time I remember watching it. When we went in 88 it was a different show. My brother was six when we went to Disney the first time in 79 and wanted to watch that show ad nauseum.
My mom and I still laugh about the song, and are apt to break into at any time if either of us is planning a vacation there.

Thanks so much for sharing these fabulously mod pictures! I feel as if I just time traveled! As someone who was 14 when WDW opened and didn't make it there until I was almost 21, I longed, yearned and pined to stay at The Contemporary! Now I have some idea of what it would have looked liked if I did!

Mary Blair, the artist who designed the mural for the Grand Canyon Concourse, also was the supervising imagineer for It's a Small World. That's why the designs are similar. A little bit of Disney history!

This is from the Contemporary Resort in 1982. The furniture had been recently replaced. But this was the last time we were there when the Indian pics were still on the walls... The "World" map (on the left) would eventually be ripped off the walls and sold for scrap masonite for $5.00! Most were heavily damaged in the removal process and all the frames were destroyed.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/GF88.jpg
This is what the room at the Grand Floridian looked like in 1988. The decor was very pleasant and this trip was the first time we encountered the "pay" fridge!
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/contemp89.jpg
After the Contemp rooms were remodeled, they looked like this in 1989...
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/contemp89-2.jpg
Looks like they saved a lot of money on the new furniture and artwork... again 1989.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m110/flynglizrd/contemp89-3.jpg
I always liked having two sinks in the bath as we had in 1989 at the Contemporary Resort. After the next renovation, there was only one basin.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. First time I went to WDW was 1977 or 1978 when I was about 11 but we did not stay onsite so I have no photos of any rooms. I do remember the ticket booklets and how each ride cost a certain amount of tickets.
I think the Contemp. looked better in the early 80's with the flowery bedspreads and the pictures on the walls than it did in the late 80's. They definitely should have kept the double sinks.

First, HTML can't be used here. A similar but different language is used to post.
Simple. First you upload the image to Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com/) or a similar site. Second, copy the URL from the box labeled "IMG CODE - Forums & Bulletin Boards" and paste it into the text box here. Voila! You've posted a picture!

Please please, pretty please do not quote the photos themselves. Flying Lizard's stream of pics runs three times on one page and Mary's poor mom would probaly die to see her 70's fashion challenged (no disrespect mom, who wasnt back in the day) self posted over and over and over.
Leave a comment, leave a new photo, but pretty please with sugar on top stop making us scroll through the same pics over and over.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I actually prefer to see photos quoted - that way I know what's being commented on without having to search back.
I guess a compromise would be to only quote the particular photo you're talking about if it's one of a group.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but here are my thoughts. A lot of folks don't "get" going to Disney time after time. As a child, we never dreamed of being able to afford to go to Disney. I was an adult my first trip. The memories in these pictures are why I will take my kids to Disney as long as they will let me! These pictures are priceless.
Thanks for sharing your memories with me!

MaryD73,
The picture in question is from Lake Buena Vista Village.

No photos here - all at my Mom's on the other side of the country!!! I do remember the Poly though...we went back in 1977 and again in 1981 as well.... We were lucky enough that Grandma paid for the 2nd trip and went with us. My father had decided that we wanted to stay an extra day at the Poly and had the "Front Desk" tack on another night while we were there. *Just* like you could do today... NOT!
I can remember the photos we took with Goofy and Pluto (Pluto took a shine to me - my mother was mortified - I was an "early bloomer" at 10...let's leave it at that!). I also remember Discovery Island - THE STINKY FLAMINGOS!!! To this day it's the one thing my brother and I crack up about.....

OK, I won't quote the pictures, but I do own two of the Mary Blair pictures, one small and one large, that used to hang in the Contemporary, that I got through a friend who has long since retired from Disney. They hang in the family room.
I have tons of old pics, but no way to scan them. This thread has made me pull out the old photo albums though.

I don't believe that's Le Cellier, because I've eaten there for years, and their decor hasn't really changed all that much, even from the days when it was a cafeteria. I'm not sure where that is though - it doesn't look familiar.
Got the photo's from my mom of our 1973 trip. :yay:

I've been fascinated with the 3 resorts that never came to be after I read about them on Wikipedia months ago. Without going to Wikipedia to direct quote the article, I'm pretty sure the plans were scrapped due to the oil crisis in 1973. The GF is where the Asian resort was to be. Up until it was built, Floridian Way was Asian Way. In the mid-80's, there were plans to develop a Mediterranean resort where the old Venetian resort was to be built (near the Contemporary), but those plans were shelved due to soil conditions. From what I understand, once the WS in Epcot was built, there was no need for all the "international" resorts on Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.

From 1989 almost 20 years which I think makes them vintage.

Loving the pics, I don't have any so old as it was 1995 when I first went, but I enjoyed seeing the pic of the old park ticket. Does anyone remeber those tickets from the nineties where they put your photo on each ticket in black and white?

My mom just gave us the other day the Opening Day tickets for EPCOT. My kids really liked seeing that. I have alot of pics we went to WDW alot when I was growing up. I was telling my son today it was only like 20 dollars a night to stay at Fort Wilderness Campground. And that was probably the high side:lmao: . I have to look for the photos we have somewhere from our first look at what was then called the EPCOT Center. My mother and I took the monorail from the TTC out to the construction site. I think that it was a Florida resident thing-but I could be wrong. It was pretty cool to ride the monorail for that distance for the first time. Up until then you were confined to the loop from the TTC to the MK, Poly and CR- never getting going very fast so as a kid it was the best part of the trip. The look at EPCOT wasn't guided, as you just got out and looked over the construction before returning to the TTC but you could still feel the excitement of the other visitors. I had forgot about that and my visit to River Country before reading these posts.:woohoo:

A friend of mine's husband came across the maintenance guys destroying these/tossing them into the trash and asked for one - they gave it to him - no problem. It's one of her favorite Disney pieces - still hanging in her home.
Great pics!

One question about the pics of kids and people in the water-They used to let you swim? It all seemed off limits when we were there this past week.
I overheard someone on the monorail say it's because of the danger of crocs!

I hope some one will post more pics soon. I would but I didn't go for the 1st time until 1986 and I was 22 years old. We took pics will a disc camera. Does anyone remember those? I don't think they lasted too long. They didn't take good pics.I was expecting my 1st child at the time and all I wanted to do was stay in the room because I was too hot! We stayed at a large Travelodge just outside of WDW. No photos of that either.

Here is my first time at Disney World circa 1978. I was 3 at the time and we stayed at Poly. The wife and I are taking my kids for the first time in September and staying there. For my wifes first time to Disney (I think 1981) they stayed at Poly too. Kind of a family tradition, if anyone is going for the first time, we stay at Poly.
Anyway, on to the pictures.
Only one of Poly. I'm the little guy.

Oh those totally bring back memories!! Especially since when you stayed at FW (pre-FW pool) you could use the pool at CR and Poly, and because Poly had that slide, that's where we always went.
Yes they used to let you swim. It would be gators not crocs but I think more than gators it's a bacteria problem.
yes, you could swim off the beach at FW, Poly and I think CR. I don't think they ever mentioned that there were gators there, since it was man made...why would there be gators? They had nice little sandy beach areas. I know I have pics somewhere from the early 80's of my mom and my youngest brother sitting on the beach at FW with him digging in the sand and my dad would go out on the mini speed boats with me and my other brothers.

I can only dig up pics of the resorts back to 1984...I actually had only stayed at a Disney resort the first time in 1983...every time we went to Disney in the early days, from 1971 to 1983, we stayed at a Ramada or Holiday Inn out on 192 (we was po' back then!) The first time I stayed AT Disney, I felt like royalty...I wanted to tell everyone I passed that I was staying at the Contemporary. With a rare few exceptions, I've stayed on property ever since.
Here's Contemporary, 1984:

My dad went to WDW when it opened in 1971. He doesn't have any pictures, though. I'm hoping I'll come across some at his parents' house next month. My mother also went to WDW in the 70s... she might have some pictures.
My mother stayed in a camper at Fort Wilderness and my father stayed in a pop-up camper in his sister's backyard (they drove all the way from Oklahoma!), so probably not many resort pictures. I love this thread, though!

Love the CBR pics. DH and I stayed there in 89 or possibly 88. The first time we stayed, the resort was open but only half completed, so it had a lot of construction going and I can't even remember if the main food court area was complete yet or not! So it was very early. Then we stayed again at CBR for our honeymoon in 91. So those pics bring back memories!

Hey, I still have one of these tickets from the late 80's when I took my sisters to Disney. It still has one day left on it, do you think it's still valid? I mean, could I ever use it for my daughter, she's 6? Its a child's ticket, but it does say non transferable, but I thought Disney tickets never expire? Obviously my siser isn't a kid anymore, but I'd love to use it for my daughter. Any thoughts?

To my knowledge, as long as the ticket does not have an expiration date, it can still be used. You may have to turn that ticket in and get the newer kind with the magnetic swipe on the back.

Yes, I used one a few years ago. They had to go get a giant binder with pictures of all old tickets and look through it to find my ticket and some code, which they entered into the computer and it issued me a modern 1-day ticket.

I have many resort pictures over the years even when guests were permitted to swim in the lakes at CR as well as Poly! How things have changed but stayed the same!! Poly used to be much smaller as well. The one that has changed probably the most over the years is Shades of Green. It had a few different themes altogether over the years.

I ate at what was the Disney Inn back in the late 80's early 90's. AT that time, if I recall, the restaurant was called the Garden Gallery, just as it is now. But I can't even recall anything else about the location. I do remember we had a decent meal. (but back then all our meals were wonderful and child free and chicken nuggets were far from my mind ) lol. Funny to think now that it would be where we spend most of our disney time now.

I've actually tried to do a bit of research in that past on the history of the Golf Resort/Disney Inn/Shande of Green. It's the only on-site resort I've ever stayed at. Once as the Golf resort in 1979, and once as the Shades of Green in 2008 (will be there again this summer). For anyone interested, here's some of the history that I was able to paste together:
History of the Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Resort
When the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom opened in October of 1971, two championship golf courses opened nearby, the Magnolia and the Palm. On December 15, 1973, at the site of the courses’ club house, The Golf Resort opened with 125 guest rooms and a swimming pool, the Magnolia Pool. A restaurant called the Magnolia Room was known for their French Fried Ice Cream dessert. The Players Lounge was overlooking the Magnolia Golf Course.
On February 1, 1986, the resort was reopened under a new name, The Disney Inn, and with a new theme, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The resort had been renovated and expanded to 288 rooms, and added a second swimming pool, the Mill Pond Pool. The Garden Gallery restaurant opened along with The Back Porch, a snack bar called the Diamond Mine, and a poolside bar called the Sand Trap.
In 1989, a third golf course was added next to the Magnolia course. The Oak Trail golf course is a nine-hole, par-36 walking course.
The U.S. Military began leasing the property on February 1, 1994, and started offering it’s rooms exclusively to U.S. service members and their families and various other categories of Department of Defense employees as part of their Morale, Welfare and Recreation program. On January 12, 1996, the Department of Defense purchased the resort and renamed it Shades of Green.*
After continued occupancy rates in the 90-99% range, on January 4, 2002, Shades of Green announced a major remodeling and expansion project. On April 1, 2002, the resort closed for construction. During the closure, guests with reservations were accommodated at the Contemporary Resort’s North Garden Wing (their reservation rates were honored, but they were charge an additional 11% sales tax). The Shades of Green ticket office was also temporarily moved to the Contemporary Resort.
On March 31, 2004, Shades of Green re-opened with 586 guest rooms, a new lobby area, a new ball room, a new signature restaurant called Manginos, a new parking garage, and new landscaping. The Garden Gallery was preserved, and other new dining and shopping options opened: Evergreens Sports Bar and Grill, Express Café, Eagles Lounge, Lava Café, America the Ice Cream Parlour, and AAFES convenience store, and an Armed Forces Recreation Center gift shop called East Meets West.
* I found conflicting accounts on this: one report says the U.S. Military paid $43 million for a 100-year lease from Disney in 1996.
I have pics from the campground and when Shades of Green was the golf resort and still owned by Disney. We stay at Shades of Green alot when we go. I have pics going down the slide in to the lake at the campground. I love that things changed but at the same time like everyone else I miss the old ways.:sad1:
I'd love to see any photos of the Shades of Green before it was Shades of Green. My parents can't find any photos from our Golf Resort stay, and I've never been able to find much of anything from the Disney Inn days.

Thought I'd bump this again, to see if I can coax some Golf Resort photos.

they stopped allowing guests to swim in the lakes because of all the boat traffic nowadays that's also why the water isn't so clear anymore! I would love to see average attendance for the parks / resorts over the years - I have pictures a few months after EPCOT first opened and there's barely anyone in the background, it was deserted in the middle of August!! Now when I go in August I can barely get down through the crowds on main street in MK - what happened?
