I've been battling my weight since I was 11 years old. I eat to combat personal emotional issues, and food has really become my way of coping with my surroundings. I've always been heavy, but over the past few years I've gained a signifigant amount of weight, hitting my all time high of 239.

My wake up call came Friday. I was attending Six Flags with my friends as part of a school band trip. Scott and I waited in line for Superman for an hour. Once I got in the seat, I found myself unable to buckle the seat belt, no matter how hard I sucked, it just wouldn't go in. The attendant was not kind about it. I left the ride and promptly plopped down on the bench where another friend was waiting and cried. It was just such a slap in the face, a wake up call, one that I don't think I was ready to get, but needed very much.

So here I am, 17 years old and dreading summer, not being able to hide behind sweaters and having to face the beach. I don't want my senior year to be like this, I want to have fun, and be able to go to the mall and not worry about what my size is.

So here I am, starting over.

Megan, I am happy to see that you are going to work on a goal to becoming a bit healthier. Do what you can to make the lifetime changes you need.

Journaling will be a great way to see what it is you are doing in a different way. I am proud of you for starting a program that will help you for a lifetime.

Never give up. Keep on keepin' on!
