To anyone who doesn't want to read a vent leave now because I really NEED to vent! I made my original reservations through AAA for June 22-26 then I decided I wanted to add one more night and leave on the 27th. Well AAA was booked so I called our Hotel [Jolly Roger] and explained what I needed and they made a reservation for the final night. Well I found out today they reserved a 2 Queen room for us when our other rservations with AAA are for a King.....meaning that we'd have to switch rooms mid trip...:scared: ...so not convenient having to leave the parks midday to pack up our stuff and switch.....especially when it's our last day at the parks! So I called and asked them to switch it only to be told they're sold out of King rooms for that night!!!!!!! What did they offer to do?? Oh well I get to call back and hope someone cancels!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I'm soooo angry right now I could pop a blood vessel!!!!! It's my anniversary trip, not to mention probobly the last time i'll get to DLR in a while [college age not a lot of $$] and I don't want to spend my last day dealing with all this drama!!! I thought everything was going so well planning this trip and now to see this really upsets me!:sad1: Ok thanks for letting me vent............

Have you thought about trying to switching to a different hotel?

Pomlover2586
05-27-2007, 09:33 PM
Yes.....but switching to a different hotel means higher cost [Jolly Roger was cheapest] and still the hassle of switching either now or on our last day.....and switching hotels on our last day is even more of a hassle then switching rooms at the same hotel......

I figure worse case scenario i'm going to pack all my bags in the AM and take them to the front desk when we leave for the park and then pick them up and check into our new room at like 12:30 am when we get back from the park......I am soooo not leaving the park midday on our last day!

Yeah that sounds like the best option. I was talking about switching hotel for the entire trip though...but if JR is the cheapest you mine as well just stay there.

Awe I really feel your frustration. I agree that the best thing would be pack your bags and leave it with the hotel in the am. Hopefully by that time a room will open up and you won't have to switch.

I also wanted to say that when I first read your post I thought you said you could POOP a blood vessel :lmao: But then I re-read it, and I was crazy.

I hope your trip will be awesome despite this ridiculous room switching business. :)

Well when we booked the vacation we had a choice between Motel 6 [What USED to be the Red Roof Inn] and the Jolly Roger for the same price......we stayed at the RRI or Motel 6 as it's now called a year ago and it was fine......it worries me that it's now a Motel 6 [pictures of cockroaches swim through my head] but i'm considering calling my travel agent and having her switch us to Motel 6.......all were going to be doing is sleeping there anyway so it's not a huge loss......I just hate the idea of saying "Oh for my 5 year anniversary I stayed at a Motel 6!" Gawd I hate being a poor college student LOL :rotfl2:

Have you called the hotel to ask them what their policy is or what will likely happen? It wouldnt think it out of the question that they either let you keep your room or help you move.

I agree. You pack 'em, they'll move 'em. Suggest it... couldnt hurt.
Good luck. I agree a move would really suck!

(PS: To make you feel better I'll tell you my sob story: our entire trip was cancelled early May, and it was our daughters birthday trip, and we still arent sure we are getting our money refunded thru trip insurance!)

Count your blessings.

I know that it's an important trip to you, but my goodness, it's far from the end of the world. If that is the worst thing that happens to you, that seems like a pretty good day ....

This may sound like a silly answer to your problem, but what if you tell the front desk that you are not moving? They can't physically move you. As a former hotel employee, they really can't move you!

That's a pretty nasty thing to do to the person who reserved that room for the night. I mean, I understand that the OP is unhappy not to be getting her way, but lousing up someone else's vacation for your own benefit is Not Cool. The people who reserved a King room for the 27th don't deserve to show up and find out that someone who *didn't* book that room is taking it from them.

Honestly the only "ball that was dropped" was by the OP. It is not the Red Roof's Inn to guarantee King beds available whenever you want to add them. Refusing to leave the room would be extremely childish and as the above person said, NOT COOL to the guest who reserved the room for the 27th AHEAD OF TIME.

Either go to a different hotel, ask them if they can move your luggage, do it yourself, or wait to see if there is a cancellation.

As someone else said, this is really a simple problem......

Can you get a 2 Queen room for the entire stay and not have to move rather than your original King room? Seems like a queen bed would be preferable to a move on your last day.

While I understand this is annoying, you can't expect a motel to have the room you want an extra night. To make it easier if you have to change rooms, pack stuff that is dirty and you don't need and pack one bag for stuff you need the next morning, that way you only have one bag to unpack and repack. It will make it easier. Just relax and have fun.

I agree with the suggestion of trying to get the QQ for the enitre stay, might be the best suggestion.

Try the QQ idea! My bf and I frequently go (you and I are actually about the same age! Woot for the college DIS'ers!) to DL and actually prefer the QQ rooms. Gives us more room to stretch out, if that makes sense. The other bed becomes a biiiiiiiiiiig table!

Besides, if it's your anniversary, you guys should be snuggling! :)

Ask when you check in what they can do to keep you in one room. Tell them that you are willing to have the King Bed for the entire stay or a Queen Bed for the entire stay, whatever might work.

If they aren't able to help on day one, go back again on days two and three and ask if there have been any last minute cancellations so that you can stay in the same room.

This would look to be your best solution since at this point they are sold out of the room category you desire.

Actually given your dates I think you are lucky you got an extra night at all. When you have to deal with this during your trip just think about the fact you would be leaving instead of staying if that extra night (albeit in a different room) hadn't been available. Changing rooms isn't always the most fun but at least you will be in the same motel and its just the two of you. I have had to change resorts altogether as many as three times at WDW with two kids, to accomodate my change of dates. And maybe you will luck out and somebody will cancel. Have a great trip!

We've done a few trips where we changed hotels completely (DLH, to offsite too). No big deal really. I say go back and move rooms, grab a bite to eat and hit the parks again.

I agree with Amy that your probably lucky they were able to add another night on at all. I know our hotel is completely booked out for next month. Best to plan the whole trip early, or just be happy that they were able to accomodate you! I'm sure the last night having QQ won't be that bad (we've had QQ rooms when we didn't have kids, no biggie). I don't see a reason to be mad here, sorry JMO.

Before I got to this response, my suggestion was going to be exactly this. Since it is the last day you will only need an overnight bag anyway. Pack what you will need for the last day in a carry-on or the like.

When you take your luggage to store at the front desk you may want to pre-check-in to remind the hotel of the game plan. You can likely leave the majority of your luggage at the front desk, since you will check out the next day anyway.

Call the front desk before doing this though as you will find things have a way of working out. The hotel would rather keep you in the same room as it would be in their best interest cleaning wise.

Chances are they will find a way to accomodate you when the time arrives. Be flexible, remember a QQ room is not the end of the world and be EXTRA nice to whomever you check in with. You'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Tip well while you are there and be sure to drop the info that it is your anniversary. Maybe even your first trip to DL. Can't wait to come back next year, and the year after that and with our future children. Some people may not give a darn about these things, but others will go out of their way to accomodate you b/c you are pulling at their heart strings and have been leaving a happy/good impression in your wake. I have been in the hospitality business dept before and I promise you that the nicer you are the better off you will be. If you are cranky, demanding and a royal pain in the you know what they will make your stay miserable. Not only will you be switching rooms, but housekeeping won't be timely or thorough, Basically you'll be flagged as the hated guest. Not cool.

I don't know about the Jolly Rancher - but the one time we requested a King room at HOJO - the room we got was SO small (Building 1 at the end with a balcony to the freeway). There was no way two beds could have fit in the room.

After the first night we were switched into a two queen or two double room in building 1. There was so much more room.

ROFLMAO Ok no offense to a couple of you but you seem to have missed the basic point......when I called to schedule the last night the person I spoke with LIED and said they couldn't look up my original reservation to accomodate me in the same type of room; when in fact they could look up the details...they just couldn't change it. THIS is why I was so upset. I have no problems being in a King size bed, or a 2Q makes no difference to me as long as there is a bed. But the fact that the hotel lied and then wouldn't try to make it right is what set me off. Due to this I took matters into my own hands.......I cancelled the reservations with Jolly Roger and switched to a different hotel.....5 nights, king bed.....3.5 weeks notice.........best part?? I saved OVER 80 bucks....LMAO sooo.........don't mess with my vacation Jolly otherwise you won't get my $$$ :lmao:

Glad it worked out in the end. And guess you learned a valuable lesson here too...package deals are very rarely deals at all.

I didn't see that in the original post either. Unless I'm missing it also? :confused3

But I'm glad it worked out for you anyway! Sometimes it's better to move hotels so you can get what you want. We stayed at the Jolly Roger once years ago, it was very LOUD. I remember not getting a lot of sleep on that trip just from all the people above us, next to us, and outside. Wasn't cheap either, so we haven't gone back there.

Okay, I have read this again and don't see the part where they lied to you. You only state they made a new reservation, not that they told you it was one thing when actually it was another. So that does indeed make it different. However, please don't scold us for not knowing about what you didn't post. I am glad it worked out, it sounds like all in all, it was for the better! Have a great anniversary trip to Disneyland.

You were supposed to pick that up through telepathy.
Osmosis would have worked also but that requires a lot of expensive equipment.

Okay, I have read this again and don't see the part where they lied to you
You mean you're not telepathic either?

OMG.....I guess I was so mad when I wrote the original post that I thought I had added that part.....my bad. Sincerest apologies to all who are as incapable of telapathy as I am :) The package deal with the new hotel and the Jolly Roger for 4 nights would have been the same price, but the extra night not included in the package was going to be $170 all on it's own! I'm just glad it worked out and now I don't have to worry about it.....really glad if it's extra loud at JR Thanks!

Totally understand! Nothing will get me steamier than when ANYTHING gets in the way of my Disney fun! I have never heard much in the way of good reviews for the Jolly Roger. Which hotel did you end up getting? Take that money and buy yourself something fun at DL to remember this special trip!

Well it used to be the Red Roof Inn, we stayed there last year for our trip and it was really nice for the price. From what our travel agent says apparently Motel 6 bought the place......so it's now a Motel 6......I know not the greatest of places but we figured they've had the place less then a year so maybe it won't be completely trashed:confused3 Were only going to sleep there anyway [as I refuse to waste precious park hours LOL] I'll probobly bring my own comforters just in case...but for the price I really can't beat it....being on a college budget and all:thumbsup2

We stayed there when it was Red Roof and it was okay. Pool was nice. The elevator was broke a couple of the days of our stay. But wasn't that big of a deal. Rooms were clean and decent size. Our biggest complaint was the people next to us checked out, and had their alarm set for 3 am! We called the front desk and it took them until 5 am to come and shut it off! That was pretty annoying, but I guess that can happen anywhere.

Sorry to say it, BUT - the OP doesn't really seem to have any reason to be upset at the hotel or AAA. And, to top it off, is it really that hard to change rooms for your last night? I mean, you're living out of a suitcase for the week anyways... It's not like your there for three weeks or anything.

It's unfortunate but not a reason to be mad at anyone.. at least not enough to "vent".

She said if you didn't want to read her vent then go elsewhere, perhaps you should have done that. Sounds like everything worked out in the end, though and I'm happy.

Nothing worse than having to deal with rude people and situations that are beyond your control when all you want is to have a nice fun, relaxing trip.
