I have never, since becoming a member, requested a certain type of room. My husband and I prefer to be adventureous. How do we know we won't like a particular room until we've tried it, after all. I just received my December confirmation for AKV, and it says "REQUEST VACATION HOME BY POOL". Isn't that amazing?

Do you want a pool view? If not just have the request removed. We get weird request entries sometimes.

We get better rooms when we don't request.

I'm wondering about that. We've always gotten great rooms (without asking), but this time I'm putting in a request. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

The fact that AKV has been divided into several booking categories would seem to indicate that, protestations from the DIS board not withstanding, DVC feels requests are a bigger deal to most members than we care to admit. Otherwise, why go to the bother of creating and tracking the different categories? Seems like a pain when they could simply continue on with the "requests are only requests and not guarantees" mantra with a lot less trouble and effort.
Maybe the SSR experience has influenced their thinking in this matter as far as guaranteed requests go.

We have had about the same results although I do usually request upper floor and sometimes throw in near a pool. The couple of rooms that I liked the least were in fact ones that I picked when the CM gave me a choice of rooms ready when we checked in. That said there is no room at any DVC resort that I would turn down since I would be at WDW. jWho knows the room someone else hates might turn out to be my favorite.

I don't know if I want a pool view or not. Again, I won't know until I've tried it. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? The 1 BR savannah views were all gone by the time I reserved but she said she did have a standard view. I asked what a standard view was, and she said pool or parking lot view. Then I asked her if she had a 1 BR at OKW, and she didn't, so I said okay I'll take the standard view.

I always seem to get first floor rooms. Since I have a 4 year old I worry she will walk out and in the pool. I always ask for higher floor and always get first floor. I got the big sorry about that but I was still on the first floor.
