Where do you get your ribbons and fibers? The sets by scrapbook retailers are a bit expensive, especially for use in a swap when you need multiple sets.

I get mine at AC Moore or Michael's in the yarn and ribbon sections. You're right about if they market it to scrappers they jack the price up. I buy regular ribbon on the spools - much larger selection that way. For fibers, I most often use the "fun fur" kind of yarn where you can get a whole skein (more fiber than you will use in your life!) for $4-6.

Thanks! I don't have to worry about the fibers and ribbons from the textiles section being safe for scrapbooking, right? There is nothing special about the stuff in the scrapbooking section?

Hopefully someone else knows for sure, but I think they're fine.

From what I've read, white paper is the most likely to be acidic because of something they do/add to make it really white. So I grabbed some of my white Carmen yarn (similar to Fun Fur or Fancy Fur) and tested it with my pH pen. It comes up as acid free. :) (You should have seen me trying to do that! :lmao: :lmao: It was really quite funny!)
I'd hit a great sale back in February (maybe?) at Michaels. They had a bunch of different yarns for $1 or $2. I was doing a fiber swap on another board so I used that as an excuse to get more that I'd planned...but I ended up spending $20. :lmao: :lmao: I'm guessing I won't be needed any again - EVER!!
The point is that Mikes/ACM/Jos all have yarn sales that can really help! They tend to run them more often in the winter months though.
I should have posted this as an enabler last week, but completely forgot about it. When I was at the Dollar Tree last Thursday they had a bunch of those yarns I'd gotten at Mikes this winter. They were the Fancy Fur type - I'm not sure of the exact name - but they were the Fun Fur mixed with a strand that changes thickness. If you have a Dollar Tree near you, try checking there.
The other thing is to check for a fiber/embellishment swap here on the DIS. That way you can buy one and get back a bunch of different ones. My only problem with that has been that I got some I absolutely loved, but only got a yard or two ;) and thought I wanted to use it for a bunch of LOs. I couldn't find it at the store either. :(

I get my at the dollar store (but they don't also carry them), big lots, and I watch when they go on clearance and I stock up. I don't think I've paid more more then $2.00 for my ribbon or fiber.
