I understand there is a little post office on Castaway Cay that you can mail postcards from. Do you have to purchase stamps there? If so .. how much are they?

Thanks!

I think they are $0.55 each, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Yes, you purchase the stamps there. (You need cash. It is the only thing on the island you can't use your KTTW card for.)

They were 55 cents in August 2000. But if your postcard is oversized, they charge a bit more. Remember to bring cash with you to the post office since they don't take Visa. :)

Does anyone know if the people that work at the post office on Castaway Cay are Disney employees? The two people that were there on our visit in November were not at all friendly...infact they seemed to be put out to be selling us a stamp. They were by far the least friendly of any cast or crew we encountered on our entire trip, and not at all like the others. I wondered if perhaps they were employeed by the Bahama postal service?

I don't recall for sure...but I do believe you can buy postcards on the ship. But the post office on Castaway Cay sells some very nice DCL ones.

I believe the people working in the post office are Bahamas postal employees, not Disney employees. I agree, they weren't the friendliest of people.

There are two sizes of postcards. The regular size card is $.55 while the larger is $.65. Also, be warned the the mail is very, very slow. We mailed all of our cards from Castaway Cay, and they took 5-6 weeks to arrive at their destinations.

This was my experience with Castaway post office. I mailed my mildly retarded sister one of those messsage in a bottle things from there. The man working the post office got very frustrated at me because I would not go on the boat and purchase him a drink. He said he tried to get on the boat to get a drink; however, they would not let him (THANK GOD!). I told him I wouldn't. I was very nervous the whole time I was in there with him alone. Well weeks later my sister's message in the bottle arrived, and he had opened it and written the vulgarest things in it that you could imagine and singed my name. He got my name off of another post card that I was mailing. I mailed letters to US postal respresentatives, Bahamian postal people, Disney, called Disney. They are NOT Disney employees. The only response I got was from Disney and that was a letter of apology and a shirt and picture frame. I doubt I mail anything from there when I go on May 25th. That's just my experience with the Post office.

Beth, did you ever get a response from the Bahamas mail officials?

No, Dave, sure didn't get a thing from them. Perhaps his behavior is of the norm for postal workers in the Bahamiam post office. Who knows. (At least Disney did respond...)

The mail does take very long but it was fun getting the postcard much later after we came back (we mailed one to ourselves for a souvenior). The man who helped us at the post office was nice and patient (I bought Bahama currency from him). They do sell postcards on the ship as well as the little shop on Castaway Cay. :jester:
