I'm at Vero Beach right now having a great time! No problems at all. Love the room (Inn OV). It's such a beautiful resort. Weather is nice, too. A few love bugs around (plus hundreds on the front of the car from the drive from Orlando!). Oh, and I asked the question earlier about the cable channels, they have the normal assortment of cable channels (unlike at WDW).

I'll try to check back in if anyone has any questions.

Have a great time. We have an ocean view inn room booked for a couple of nights this coming December. Looking forward to getting back to Vero.

How much 'turtle' activity have you seen? Are there many nests on the beach? We leave a week from Sat and have a turtle walk scheduled during our stay - DNeph (9) is really hoping to see a turtle come ashore - they are his favorite animal!! Any info on kid's programs going on at the pool? We have an IOV room, too! Is the laundry near those rooms? I'm going to have to get up early on our last day and do a quick load of laundry for the WDW part of the trip - can't wait !!

We were walking on the beach, south of the resort, and there were a couple hatched turtle shells (didn't see any type of 'nest'). Haven't seen any turtles yet, though.

As far as kid activities, I saw they were having craft time by the pool. Also, I noticed (I think on Sunday) that some of the recreation CMs were having a dance time by the pool.

Laundry is on the 4th floor beside the elevators. There's ice and vending in there, too.

They have a hot dog, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, chicken tenders, grilled chicken sandwich, turkey wrap, seasonal salad, fruit salad, chicken pita, and maybe a few other things. Kids meals (hot dog or grilled cheese) are served in a sandpail. I've had the turkey wrap and the cheeseburger, pretty good.

The beach wasn't too bad the past couple days, but today there was a lot of seaweed on it. Looks pretty natural. :) The beach itself isn't too wide, but hasn't been crowded. North of the resort, with the sea wall, at some points of the day there really isn't any beach at all.

Sorry to say, I haven't given BCV another try yet. Still have a bad taste from the last trip. I'm sure we'll stay there again in a few years, though.
I love SAB!

Glad to hear you're having a great time. We spent a lot of time over at the resort this last month as MIL was in town visting and staying at the resort.

One thing I miss at Bleachers are the nachos. Those always tasted so good after being in the pool for a while.

I tried the turkey wrap on Sunday and thought it was pretty good. We had honey mustard for the chicken tenders and used some of it for the turkey wrap which added some flavor.

The resort has Comcast as their cable provider so that is why they offer so many more channels than at WDW.

We had to skip the beach a few days last week because the waves were so rough. Maybe that's why there is so much seaweed on the beach right now. There were many great days when the ocean was very calm, though. We also had a few man-o-war wash up while we were playing in the sand but we only saw 2.

Have a great rest of you vacation.

Any signs there yet as to how they intend to accommodate smoking guests?

I haven't seen any signs posted about smoking areas yet. I really haven't seen many people smoking around the resort, either (maybe 1 or 2 at the pool, that's it). Should be interesting what they do when the June 1 integration rolls around.

I hope your having a great time at the beach!

If you were picking a beach cottage to stay in which ones would you request?? In case you didn't figure it out, we are staying in one next April.

How is the pool chair situation? Do flip flops and towels still need chairs to sit on at 8am?

In my experience VB is never crowded.... it's like you're own beach, along with a couple dozen other friends... Hopefully this will be the case for many years to come. Don't forget to check-out the stuff on the other side of the highway! Maybe even take the trail to Pelican Island... Hope you're having a wonderful time! BTW... you can get carry-out from Sonya's/Shutters and take it to the pool or to your room to enjoy. Have Fun... and enjoy Vero Beach... Disney Style....

I thought they stopped carry out from the restaurants about 6 months ago? Did they start it again when they got the new chef?

We would like to know this too.. This change in rules has really thrown us into limbo.... kind of changes the whole picture... for us..... I have said this before, but we have NEVER smoked in any DVC room.... but not being able to smoke on balconies is almost a show-stopper for us. Guess we'll know what to do after our visit to HHI next week.

Smoking is my one vice... I love nature, love people, love the earth. I am a geek when it comes to saving the planet... but, I am addicted to smoking... I want to quit, but it is not so easy.... So I hope my DIS friends will forgive me and understand that there are nature loving people that smoke. Doesn't make sense.. I know, but life is hard and we all have our struggles. Mine is smoking.

Ok... enough..... I think I got into (DIS) trouble with this topic before so I am going to stop here.... (always trying to quit). Rob

We were there last August... so I cannot say whether they stopped this since. I would be really surprised if they refused carry-out... they always acted like it was no problem for the last nine years. I just don't know...

I actually was thinking about the beach cottages earlier today! My pick would be either of the ones infront of building 14. Close to the pool!

There have been open pool chairs all day long. No need to get your stuff out early. Plus people seem to come and go all day long, so there are always multiple chairs side-by-side available. There is a sign saying not to leave things unattended for over an hour, or the things will be moved to Eb & Flo's. I actually did see some of the recreation CM's moving stuff the other day.

We went fishing over at the pond across the street (brought our own pole), and drove back the trail down the road (I'm guessing it was the Pelican Trail... it took us from 510 to A1A).

We went to the Green Cabin Room last night, and saw people get takeout. They served them with the plate and cover, just like room service would deliver it.

Oh! one more question I forgot yesterday...

Is there any construction going on next door? If so is it noticeable?

Great question... The property to the south was sold by Disney to a developer. I am wondering too what is going on there.

I think the take-out ban at Disney is related to the DDP somehow, and VB is not on the plan, so I'm not surprised that they still do take-out. :thumbsup2

They are building $1.6+ million condos next door. It doesn't appear any big construction has begun (can't see the building yet). From what I've seen of the proposed project, it is going to be pretty nice. I have to wonder what it'll look like next to the Disney resort, though.

It sure seemed like a lot of people arrived today. It rained a little yesterday, and this afternoon. Overall, it's been a nice week here, and it's a little sad that the trip is almost over. I'll post some pictures sometime Sunday.

OK....don't laugh.....I'm obviously NOT from the south. What are Love Bugs? Are there certain times of year that bugs (any kind of bugs for that matter) are worse (or better)? I really want to try Vero Beach! We would be limited to school vacations (summer, spring break the last part of March, and Christmas time). That being said, what is the best time???

Love bugs are slow-moving small black, flying insects. They do not sting, bite or buzz. I'm scared of most flying bugs - but I actually used to think they were cute - like caterpillars, and would try to catch them as a kid and let them crawl on me.

They are called love bugs because you usually see them "attached" to each other making little love bugs. They even fly while doing what birds and bees do best.

They're mostly a problem with cars - you kill so many driving that they'll cover windshields and headlights.

Everytime we go in May, they're there. We drove from VB to Orlando Int'l today, the front of the car was covered in them! We had to go to the car wash when we arrived in VB last week, couldn't see out!
