Anyone know if there is enough water in the canals in FW to fish, canoe or peddle boat right now? And are the peddle boats back yet (they were gone due to needed repairs?

Last time we were there in November (which was kind of in the middle of this whole drought), the canals were rather low but there was still plenty of room for canoeing/fishing.

I'm not sure sure if those canals are regulated like other Florida canals (canals around here they can raise or lower by opening/closing flood gates in the Everglades), but I don't know if I've ever seen the canals so low that you couldn't canoe/fish at all. Although, this is also one of the worst (and almost the worst) droughts ever, but I think the drought would have to go on for quite a bit longer.

Probably your best bet is to call the bike barn and ask them, or maybe someone will post here who recently was at the fort.

COME ON RAIN!!! :)

These are pictures of the canal behind the 300 loop from April:

This is from another guest's post from today:

took bikes for DD and I to travel from the overflow to TE. Stopped by the bike barn to get some air and a sign was out saying no canoes due to low water levels. Duhhhhhhhhhhhh. The pond and streams are almost dry. They drained it I was told when we were there in March because the boats were bottoming out at the dock. How the FW water helped that you got me. I personally would have dredged the boat area. Oh well.

Wow, so I guess it can get that low. It's amazing how low water levels are right now, should have figured it actually.

Yes, it was like that for us too with no canoe rentals allowed due to the water levels. I just left there on Friday.
