View Full Version : Picky 12 year old on DDP, can you clear something up?

I'm bring my cousin this august, who is an EXTREMELY picky eater. When dinning out, his diet consists of chicken fingers, with the occasional hamburger. If he's feeling adventurous, he'll order ravioli, but most of the time he doesn't eat pasta and sauce not from home. We are on the DDP, which is a first for me, and I'm afraid he won't eat anything. Especially at our CRT dinner. Does anyone know if he'll be able to order off of the kids menu, which is more along the lines of his taste. I have no problem giving up an adult credit if it means he'll like what he's eating. If you know 100% they won't let me do this, can I buy him a kids meal, and we can use his TS another day, we are going to more TS than we have credits, so some would be paid for out of pocket anyway.
Sorry if this is posted else where, but I could'nt seem to find a direct answer!
Just from reading on these boards, there doesn't seem to be any problem w/ an "adult" ordering a kids meal, even on DDP.
Your 12 year old sounds like mine...he prefers typical kidfare. Luckily his 9 year old sister will eat nearly anything (even escargots!), so figure she can pick what she wants from adult menu, he can chose from kids menu & they can order for each other.
He may (or may not...) surprise you. In talking about this, DS12 said, no problem, I'll just have a steak...I have NEVER seen this kid eat steak! (OK, I am not willing to pay for steak at a restaurant for him, and usually if DH & I have steak, the kids have burgers or dogs, so I guess he's had little opportunity!:confused3 ) Lately he has been slightly more adventurous. I've taken the attitude that there are certain things he isn't interested in, so I don't offer them to him anymore...funny, with that tactic, suddenly he is more willing to try things! Thinks he is missing out on something!

I think you'll be fine. If there is absolutely nothing on the menu he is willing to try I bet if you ask your server they'll be able to come up with something. There's probably no where else in the world that tries to accomodate people with a finicky palate like Disney does!

We found the TS restaurants to be very accommodating of people's tastes. As long as you are paying with an adult TS credit (since, as a 12 year old, he is an "adult" member of the party), they will probably have no problem serving him anything off the menu. If he is very picky, but has a more adult sized appetite, they may be able to serve him adult sized portions of the kid's menu items for the price of an adult TS credit.

I have a 12 year old that is very picky too.
Chicken Fingers and pasta with just butter!! She did get a steak at LeCellier that was a nice change and she liked it!! But, a few places that didn't have an adult size chicken finger, we would just ask and the waiter said he can put something together. Also, any rest. that had a pasta dish was able to transform it into a pasta with butter. Luckily, we were on the dining plan and it didn't matter with the cost. We are going again this June and we will be doing the same thing. Or, I have a 9 year old son who can eat a little more than she will and we just switch their plates when we get our order. My daughter would order an adult cheeseburger and son would order a chicken strip meal and they would just switch plates. Never had a problem there either. Good luck with your picky eater!!
