My family is going on the 4 day Wonder cruise. There are 5 of us, DS (10), DD (9), DD (3), DW and myself. We currently are in joining cat 10 staterooms. I could change the rooms so that one of the rooms has a verandah (cat 6) and one does not (cat 11). These rooms would not be ajoining, but would be across the hall from one another. The extra cost would be $520. My wife really wants a verandah room, but I'm not sure if it is worth $500 for the 4 day cruise. Also, the joining staterooms seems convenient with the three kids. What would you do?

I would leave it the way it is. I agree that verandah rooms are great, but on the 4-day cruise you won't be in the room that much to enjoy it. On our previous cruise we had connecting Category 10's with my parents and son in one room and us and our daughter in the other. It was *very* convenient and felt like much more space. On our upcoming 7-day cruise we splurged and got connecting 6's (w/ verandah). We felt that we would be using the room much more this time and so the verandah would be nice. If I were to do the 4-day or 3-day again I'd definitely get an inside cabin.
Just my opinion.

I agree with Michelemouse...leave it the way it is. If you want a semi-private verandah (not everyone knows about it onboard) try the verandah all the way aft on deck 7. There are doors that you go through at the very end of the hall that lead to a beautiful deck. As I said....not everyone on board will know about it and it is quite a nice spot. It does get locked at night though.
