Tomorrow I finally get my braces on. Thats a good thing because I get to miss almost a whole day of school!!!
Well I wondering if anyone on here has braces. If you have, would be please share your experiences with getting them on and stuff.
So would yall please help me out and answer the poll and post a reply? Thanks so much!

I'm getting mine on the 19th- I am absolutely DREADING IT! :( :mad: I WAS supposed to get them on a year ago, but then my orthodontist said I didn't need them, but now I do!! :mad: How long do you have to have yours on?

it hurts so bad.well for the first week or so.now mine dont hurt.dont worry about food, it rarely gets stuck.

I used to have braces on both my top and bottom teeth, but i havnt got them anymore.

At first, i thought that they were real bad but then i got used to them and i thought they wernt so bad. I also kinda missed them, when i first got them took off!

They do hurt for a while for the first few weeks or so, and also everytime you go to get them tightened/altered (you teeth feel kinda bruised!!(LOL) ), but most of the time they are fine.

You might not think braces are great at the moment, but believe me, you will be so greatful when you get them off and your teeth are real straight!

I have them now. I got them on last summer, and I was completely dreading it because all my friend already had them and said they hurt so bad. But mine barely hurt at all... my orthodontist said it's cuz he uses thinner wires or something like that. I won't get them off until next summer, which really sux cuz since I'm sorta skipping 9th grade, I'll be like one of 10 sophmores w/ braces. :(

Well I should have them on for like less than 2 years. They aren't really hurting right now-they are just sore.
AFgirl325-that sucks!!! I would be so mad if I were you.
Nsyncraider17-oh dont worry about it...I am a freshman in high school and just getting them. It wont matter...I know a few seniors that have braces on so its no biggie.
Keep answering the poll and replying...I am just a curious person.

Does the aching go away after a week or so? I'll be going to Disney World about a week after I get my braces on and don't want to be in pain there!

I too had a retainer, but i didnt hardly wear it!!
i would just start wearing it on the day that i had to go back to the orthodontists!

My dentist said that once i lose a few more teeth I will need them but personaly i know that i need them NOW!!!!!! But I am not in the least excited about it!!!!!!!!

i HAVE BRACES ON. THEY REALLY STINK!!! I HURTS FOR A LONG TIME BUT NOW IT DOESNT. i PLAY THE TRUMPET, WHICH IF U KNOW IS VERY VERY HARD TO PLAY WITH BRACES. I REALLY STINK ON THE TRUMPET NOW. :(

yeah, my boyfriend has braces and he plays french horn and he says it still hurts sometime.
Whats weird is my teeth havent hurt yet...they have just been kinda sore...which is a good thing.

I got mine on last July and could barely chew hard food for two weeks. It didn't really hurt when they were putting them on, it was just after. I was expecting it to be more painful because of what my friends told me, but it really wasn't that bad. I play the clarinet in our school band and it was a little bit hard to get adjusted to playing with them on, but now I'm used to them.

I also have braces. I have had mine for alittle less than a year...I should get them off sometimes this summer...If I wear all of my rubber bands!I too play the trumpet. I am in 8th grade and 3rd chair but I have gone through many hurt lips to get to where I am now! It still hurts when I play! I will hopefully get them off before band camp this summer! :D

I have to get braces next month! I'm dreading it. I already have headgear for use at night. The orthodontist assured me that it doesn't hurt. Ha! I hurts a lot, and is a real pain. How do brace look on you? Do they make you look a little worse, a lot worse, or the same as before?

.... but today i went it to my orthodontist thinking i was just getting my spacers in when i turns out i was getting on all my braces in the front on!!! :eek: :eek: :mad: :( :( I thought I was going to die! I got clear and they don't look THAT bad..... :rolleyes: and i've had them on for about two hours and they don't hurt.... so I hope this calms fears for those of you guys who are dreading it! and if you're really freaked about getting them on cuz you think they'll hurt, take tyenol before hand! :cool:

I had braces on for only 10 months in 6th grade- now i'm in 9th, and don't ever have to go to the orthodontist again! Sorry to rub it in- but I went through it, and you guys will survive! good luck for the first week (i had a ton of sores in my mouth). Get something called Oragel. They sell it at CVS, and it really helps your mouth- i lived of the stuff lol! ;)

No, I dont have braces anymore. I used too, for 1.5 years and now I have a retainer. I had braces for my 1999 trip, that was a bummer! No sticky candy (I did not cheat at all ;) ).

This is weird, I was going to ask the same question! I got them a few months ago. My first trip w/braces was only a week after I got them so I was still getting use to them. I don't mind them as much now buy I HATE this pallet expander thing. I've had it since thanksgiving and it is horrible. The orthodontist says it will come out next time I go. Rubberbands are also annoying. :D

They do hurt for about a week and you think you will never get use to them. Food does get stuck pretty often. You won't stop touching them because it becomes a habbit. Just be thankful you don't have a pallet expander. Food REALLY gets stuck in that thing. :( And the list of stuff you can't eat! When it said no milk duds, I wanted to cry! :D I know I'm making this sound absolutely horrlble but you will get use to it! Good luck!

I have them.... it's no big deal!! They acctually look kind of cool! There are only 2 people in the 6th grade here that have braces-my friend Erin and I. I only have to have them on for 1 yr!! So, I only have a few months left w/ them on. I mean they get messed up sometimes. Everything does. Ocasionally(sp.?)the wires break or a band pops off, but it doesn't happen that often. It's only happened once to me. Well, G2G!! ;)
