View Full Version : Anyone ever use rope/string?

I am STILL working on my cruise scrapbook almost 1 year later ... ugh! Has anyone ever used string before? I bought some rope in the fabric section and was thinking of using it to write 'Sail Away' as my title. My real questions are: How do I keep it from unraveling/fraying? Right now it has tape on the ends. How do I adhere it to my page?
I'm still a newbie scrapbooker. This is my first scrapbook that I've done.
Thanks!

I have used rope before on a Toy Story page. If you are going to use it to write words I would tack it down with small glue dots or a tacky glue, I use Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive. Attach it at the first end and randomly throughout the word especially on curves.
You can find glue dots at Walmart, Michael's, ACMoore, pretty much any of the craft stores.
I'll take a pic of my page for you.

Here is the Toy Story Layout. The rope I used was some hemp rope that DH had bought.

That title looks great Buffy!
I used string to actually write my title once. I agree with Buffy on using glue dots at regular intervals - wet adhesive just gets you covered in glue lol! Here's mine:

Thanks for the ideas & advice on glue dots. I think I have some. Both of your pages look great. Buffy, it looks like you started your string at the back of your page. I think I'll try that. Queenie, my title is going to be more like yours but in cursive ... that is, if I can pull it off. I'll try to post when I'm done.

Those layouts look great. Good use of fibers.:thumbsup2
Hiding the ends is one way to conceal fraying. Sometimes the frayed look compliments the theme. But, if, like you ask in your original question, you want to prevent fraying while showing the ends, you could treat them with a product called Fray Check. It's in the sewing department. I've used it on other projects with good results. It takes a while to dry, though.

I finished up my layout last night. I'll post a picture tonight.
It was not an easy task. The glue dots that I had were too large so I wound up using glue. It was all over my hands ... yuck!

And here's the right side ... the black lines through the tickets are to mask our names.
