Has anyone used the Camcorder miniDV for still shots? I just purchase one, and I also have a Digital Canon camera. Just curious if I should bring both or just the Camcorder since it also takes pictures.

Only 14 more days to go!!!::MinnieMo

Yes, in fact, my Canon Optura 30 was my first digital camera, and I was pleased with the results, as long as the lighting was good.

Here are some WDW pix made with the Optura 30:

Go out and take some shots with each and compare them. Try taking shots in a variety of lighting conditions - sunshine, indoors, shade, etc. Your digital camera will almost certainly outperform your camcorder, but only you can decided whether the quality difference is worth the hassle.

I have never been happy with the still shots I get out of my camcorder. Like Mark said, if you test it and are happy with the shots then only having to carry around one camera will be handy. Just make sure you have enough disk space for all of your video and stills.

I too haven't been overly thrilled with the still shots my camcorder takes. It is fine in a pinch and they are fine if you are just using them as 'regular' shots, but if you are planning on zooming and cropping, you lose a lot. I actually didn't use my camcorder at ALL my last trip. This time, I'll carry both since it's our last family vacation for many years. Like it was mentioned, go take some pics now, before you go away. Good luck.
